AZ Nancy Guthrie (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

In my opinion, a lot of nothing...other than keeping her name in the media.
My hunch is LE realized the media blitz yesterday was too much so wanted to get "back to business" by holding their own pressers and stop giving interviews to individual media outlets. I think the locals are overwhelmed by the attention and are trying to regain control of messaging and time management, but having a tough time with it.

Rather ironic, in a sad way, considering Savannah Guthrie is an expert at broadcast media.

My secret hope is the presser was to take attention from something going on in the background - that happens sometimes. While there was a request for local tips, there wasn't a big emphasis. But I realize that is wishful thinking.

But, bottomline, I don't know what to think.

it definitely is and i don't blame him (and certainly appreciate his effort to be engaging with the public) but i also kind of don't see the point in just getting up there and saying "can't say" to almost every question 🤷‍♀️

I think after him saying yesterday he spent day and night fielding media calls, he wanted to shut down the questions so he could get on with his job. He's probably exhausted too juggling the media and his team so might explain some of the shortness

I think they needed to have this presser, might remove the burden on him for a few days

This reminds me of the Idaho 4 press conference with Moscow PD. They had difficulty with attention; they didn’t provide much information. Hopefully, like they were doing, this PD is just keeping it to themselves so they don’t compromise the investigation.
Yes. These huge media cases can be a lot for smaller agencies. It’s new territory.

2500 reward? might as well be $25. mOO

the Sheriff sorry to say does not inspire confidence...he just seems unhinged.
mmmm I mean he's not really well-liked here overall, for many various reasons so there is that.

Oh, that was always a foregone conclusion in my mind. I have zero expectation she'll be found alive, and I doubt she even left that house alive.

As I see it, the outcome is guaranteed. It's just how long it takes to find the person or persons who did this, and recover her.
Violent home invasions followed by abduction almost never turn out well- Jayme Closs being the one exception I can think of

Q (again) any ransom you sort of didn't answer that one

A. we are looking at all leads, we have a lot of leads, I know you are doing your job, but we have a job to do too, I need to back away from this for a while (is rather abruptly ending Q and A)

WOW. He sidestepped that very specific question not once but twice. Interesting. So maybe they have gotten some sort of demand or ransom but are trying to vet if it is serious or a crank.
i noticed that too. honestly compared to how he answered some of the other questions (with a more steady, confident "we can't say") that one seemed to make him kind of nervous/flustered...

I found the ransom answers odd. And I find the $2500 “reward” odd too.

I also wonder if they are getting fake ransom letters and messages from every internet weirdo out there, because case is so high profile.

Oh, I agree

$2500 seems almost a trivial amount of money for a reward

Yeah I was just thinking about that. but they also usually say don't involve cops so I am not sure what to think here. Unless they didn't get the demand to family until after the police were involved. IF abducted for ransom, maybe abductor thought they had more time before Nancy would be noticed missing and so missed their demand opportunity prior to LE involvement.

I don't know if a ransom is involved, but maybe the note inside was a ransom letter and explains the delay in family contacting the police immediately? Hesitation at involving police?

It's so hard to know, sometimes its just a case without strong leads.

ehhh.....IMO that's not a likely scenario. Yes it is possible, given SG's national celebrity but.....it feels off
Frankly the whole deal seems "off". They must have priority cooperation from security companies etc. and nothing to share with public. They know way more right not just not sharing.

Most important nuggets from Pima Co. Sheriff press conference at 11:45 am Tues on Nancy Guthrie:

-they are investigating whether the doorbell camera on the outside of the home was missing

-so far any DNA results that have come back from the lab have not produced any suspect DNA. They are waiting for more testing results

-they are not confirming if blood was found inside or outside the house but they were looking for blood, fingerprints, DNA to send to lab

-FBI providing analytical and technical support analyzing cell phones, cell tower info, conducting interviews

-Can’t narrow down time she was taken yet…at least not publicly. Last dropped off to her house by a family member around 9:45 pm Saturday night

-they are following all leads…wouldn’t confirm if ransom or no ransom

-Border Patrol was part of investigation because they have top scent dogs who were used in the area search

-they are done processing the crime scene

-expect to hear from the sheriff again Thursday morning unless there is breaking news in the investigation

$2,500 seems incredibly low…

She was reported quite quickly. If not a regular at church could have been another day at least.

Totally agree with this. I believe they know she didn't make it out alive. And why there isn't much emphasis on actually finding her, searching etc. Why the homicide team brought in right away. Does not look good.

that struck me as very odd. I don't like to make assumptions but I guess I am going to-this is a high profile case involving someone very well known locally (as SG grew up here, went to the U of A, and started her broadcast journalism career here on a local station) and nationally and...2,500 dollars? For a case of that caliber it seems very strange.

Considering the family i.e. Savannah, not sure of other members, would have enough to increase this reward, and IF there has been some kidnap demand, having too high a reward may be counterproductive

Just listened to the presser which showcased a Sheriff that is overwhelmed.
No information at all. So either they are working on a hostage/ransom situation
or they are really clueless. I hope there is more going on behind the scene.
Next presser in two days?
I think there are ransom negotiations.
I agree. Also what are your thoughts if Savannah went back home. Didn’t sheriff say she is no longer in AZ?

I thought that I read that her pacemaker stopped syncing with her Apple watch at 2 am. Her watch was at the home, which I found strange. You'd think that she would be wearing it to track her sleep?? I don't know how often the pacemaker syncs with the watch?

JMO.
If indeed this is a kidnapping, I would think the kidnappers would have taken her apple watch off. An apple watch can be used for location tracking.
