I noticed his non-answer on this too. Every time someone asks him that question, he dodges.

So I agree that it sounds like the family or LE received a demand of some sort. You may be right that they're trying to determine of it's serious. Either that or they're trying to negotiate.

JMO
this Sheriff is not experienced in pressers and his answer to that ransom question was very telling.

i noticed that too. honestly compared to how he answered some of the other questions (with a more steady, confident "we can't say") that one seemed to make him kind of nervous/flustered...

moo
think he had a little talking to by the FBI

From the Press Conference:

There was blood evidence found in the house

JMO
This is not true. Sheriff was asked that blood question today specifically said "they are not confirming there was blood inside the home or outside the home". Here the question asked at 32:50 time stamp

IMO For adults who are not where they are supposed or expected to be. A short delay before calling 911 is not unusual or inherently suspicious. We know now that something was very wrong and that every minute matters in an abduction, but the family didn’t have that information at the time. In many cases, family or friends first check the home, nearby areas, and routine locations before calling LE. Evidence that LE discovered in or around the home can easily be overlooked by loved ones who aren’t viewing the scene through LE lens. People also hesitate because they don’t want to overreact, embarrass the person if they turn up, or feel like they’re wasting ER resources. The delay in this case doesn’t strike me as suspicious. I actually have a tremendous amount of sympathy for families of missing people when this happens. No one beats them up more than themselves. IMO
IF the family had contacted LE immediately, would LE not have asked them if they looked around the house, if they had called neighbors, If they had done this or that?

In the past I have gotten the impression that LE may guide families where to look and what to think about before immediately sending anyone to a scene.

I think after him saying yesterday he spent day and night fielding media calls, he wanted to shut down the questions so he could get on with his job. He's probably exhausted too juggling the media and his team so might explain some of the shortness

I think they needed to have this presser, might remove the burden on him for a few days
yesterday he invited direct calls to his phone and I saw him on every channel possible with individual interviews. You can't operate like that.

Would they have street cameras at the larger intersections?
we don't do traffic cams here. Businesses could have them sure though

every answer is either "we don't know" or "we can't say" :( 😵‍💫

I’ve seen a lot of worthless press conferences, and this may top the list.
They even managed to say less than what they said yesterday by refusing to comment on things they disclosed yesterday!
Why waste everybody’s time with nothing.
Just put out a statement saying we’ll let you know when there’s anything you need to know.

With the home being where it is, I suppose it just seems more likely to me that she was targeted for *who* she is rather than *what* she is (an elderly lady at home late at night). Other homes in the area with similar occupant demographics would have been more easily accessed, IMO.

Unless they are holding back a lot of information (I hope), seems to me this abduction was well planned. At the same time, you'd think the perps would have made sure Nancy's medications were also taken to keep her alive if the motive was ransom.
I don't think ransom is involved. But I would not be surprised if they've received ransom demands from scammers, and they need to go through each fake demand.....hence his no comment.

that is accurate. He wasn't around when Isabel Celis disappeared and that's the last major thing we've had happen here.

It's shameful to SA an elderly woman (yes, I know it's shameful for any age victim). But even among pervs and criminals, you don't SA elderly women.

Shame + evidence could be a motivator to a perp to take the victim's body.

However, we don't know she was taken alive or not! We don't know the nature of her leaving the home against her will.

But if she were SA, I think shame would be a reason to remove her.

My Great Aunt was SA in her 80's. He broke into her home. Disgusting.

I think it was a "decoy" presser to throw off the media and that they are onto something and know way more.

Most important nuggets from Pima Co. Sheriff press conference at 11:45 am Tues on Nancy Guthrie:

-they are investigating whether the doorbell camera on the outside of the home was missing

-so far any DNA results that have come back from the lab have not produced any suspect DNA. They are waiting for more testing results

-they are not confirming if blood was found inside or outside the house but they were looking for blood, fingerprints, DNA to send to lab

-FBI providing analytical and technical support analyzing cell phones, cell tower info, conducting interviews

-Can’t narrow down time she was taken yet…at least not publicly. Last dropped off to her house by a family member around 9:45 pm Saturday night

-they are following all leads…wouldn’t confirm if ransom or no ransom

-Border Patrol was part of investigation because they have top scent dogs who were used in the area search

-they are done processing the crime scene

-expect to hear from the sheriff again Thursday morning unless there is breaking news in the investigation

Curious to know if the family member actually took NG inside her home or dropped her off?
I dont want to assume anything, but it would make sense the former. Nonetheless, Id like to know.

Sadly, I think perp knew of her, I think Nancy fought for her life, she’s a mentally strong woman, I believe she lost the fight in her house, perp unalived her panicked and transported her body to dispose her somewhere not to be found, so she would only be a missing person instead of finding her body and evidence on her in the house, maybe there was two perps? I hope I’m wrong JMO

This reminds me when Wade Wilson Killed Kristen Melton in her home, he tried to drag her to his trunk to transport her but she was too heavy so he wrapped her up in her own blankets and clothes from her closet to hide her, didn’t work

If indeed this is a kidnapping, I would think the kidnappers would have taken her apple watch off. An apple watch can be used for location tracking.

JMO

Someone correct if I'm wrong but didn't I read some pages back that the watch is at her home?

IF ransom is involved, wouldn't the abductor(s) have made sure to take Nancy's meds as well?
That's why I thought and think that it was not a CLOSE person. It could of been someone sent to do this for another. Meds didn't come into play. If a criminal planned this and knew all about her life: meds etc., to keep 'safe' till ransom paid, they'd make sure she stayed well. I don't know if she was able to say, I need my insulin, my meds, anything at all, if she even KNEW she was going to be taken out of her home..She would of been in an awakened suddenly and terrified state, NOT knowing what awful thing was happening. It makes it all impossible to try to figure exactly who and why this has happened. I believe, due to the no answer from the sheriff at the presser, no answers such as a concrete, 'NO, we have not received a ransom letter'. I am so hoping for her safe release of course as all. IMO

I'd like to hope not. Waste of time and energy and resources if that is their thinking

She was reported quite quickly. If not a regular at church could have been another day at least.
Your comment makes me wonder if the timing was "useful" to the perp somehow. If a kidnapping for ransom, the perp has to communicate that the person has been kidnapped to someone somehow, which opens up all kinds of discovery problems for the perp. I mean, who is sending letters with the cut-up letters from newspapers or magazines anymore? If no one is around to see them being taken, how does the ransom payer know that they are even missing or that it is a legitimate?

In this case, my hypothesis is that the abductor KNEW she was dropped off at 9:30ish, and KNEW she would be missing from church, thus providing a timeline that is informative to the ransom payer (and LE) about the legitimacy of the crime.

Its just odd to me that they took her. Shes not a child, which are taken. If murder was tge motive (if shes dead) then why not leave the body? Unless there is evidence ON the body…but seems like a ton of work to remove her (alive or otherwise), it must play into the motive, the reason they removed her. Could be ransom. Thats the only reason I can think of.
