And with the masks off, she and her husband are not as pretty. Funny how that happens.

You'd think that admitting to it and then coming up with a "I got caught up in the pressure to succeed but I learned my lesson!" would be the best move, career wise. But I guess they aren't going that route.

jmo
Exactly!

And if there is anyone wondering how these “snowflakes” are created, here you go.

A "hold" does not usually affect the current term if you are already enrolled. It (at most schools) affects future terms. My guess is that these students have been contacted by an academic dean's office (or student conduct related office) for information regarding their status/investigation. Most schools have a limited time by which you need to reply/meet/provide information before they make a decision without your participation. I would imagine that students who knew about their parents activities will just let the clock run rather than providing information to USC. All student files would be private and we would not usually hear about the decision on individual cases

Students trying to transfer with a hold will have to answer the same questions that new admits answer in regards to academic integrity (and their reason for transfer). You can do an application for transfer without "official" documents until they are required by the institution (usually after the offer of admission) at many colleges.

For many more competitive schools, the transfer app deadline was March 1 or before. Depending on the year of the student, they may not need their SAT/ACT scores to transfer (part of the application process).

I would hope that we would hear from the SAT/ACT test owners about their way of handling the scores of these students. This older LI case is important in seeing that the College Board is taking responsibility (https://nypost.com/2019/03/16/ex-na...at-cheating-calls-for-college-board-overhaul/) since it sanctions private test centers.

Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman: Feds Considering Cutting Plea Deals, But Depends On Who Will Talk First

"Sources close to the case tell The Blast that prosecutors are seeking help to build the strongest case possible against as many defendants as they can find who committed crimes. We’re told they have already reached out to a number of suspects and whoever talks first, could get the best deal.

Prison time is definitely on the table and we’re told suspects are being encouraged to talk as soon as possible, and as give as much info as possible, to avoid ending up behind bars.

In this case, we’re told cooperating would include admitting wrongdoing and possibly taking a plea deal and helping prosecutors convict other people involved in the scam."

Stay tuned!

Olivia Jade's former classmate describes 'super-elite' school with 'insane' expectations

The teen remembers being surprised Olivia could juggle her YouTube persona and a hefty amount of schoolwork at the all-girls school.

“I would have to get up at 6 a.m. every morning and I would leave school at 4 p.m. and then I would have six hours of homework,” she said, who recalls having a class with Olivia Jade.

“It made me think, ‘How is she doing this?' … I was like, 'How does she travel for YouTube? How does she have time to make YouTube videos? An arrangement with the school or something? It just didn’t make sense to me."
Well, I think she juggled schoolwork and vlogging by dropping the schoolwork. Much easier to juggle one thing at a time, lol.

The thing is, I don't look down on her vlogging. It's not my cup of tea and I see it purely as long-form commercials, but I'm not her audience either. I think her topics are shallow and uninteresting, but from what I've seen of her vlogs, I can see the appeal for her viewers. It seems like she REALLY likes vlogging, and I tend to encourage people to do what they really like. It's a sad case because she actually had an interest and passion....and that was essentially ruined by this scandal. I wish more young people had passions to follow (rather than follow shallow vloggers.....teens, go do your own interesting things!).

A hold is not a good thing, but it's also easily lifted with the right approvals.

Will they be able to get their grades for the current semester with a hold?

Are you saying the girls did know about the scam? I thought they didn’t, then thought they did, now I’m questioning,... TIA
I'm sure the girls knew there was some sort of scam. I don't know that anyone has said they didn't. I doubt they understood just how illegal it was. I think they just assumed that mom and dad pulled some strings. Olivia made no secret of the fact that she didn't even want to be in college at all and didn't intend to attend classes much.

Most information on transcripts out in the universe are in reference to a financial hold. California happens to be a state that allows for withholding of transcripts if there is a financial issue (except in bankruptcy, which has its own set of rules if you file and owe money to a college). No state can go beyond the FERPA guidelines, however. FERPA states that colleges have a right to withhold but students have the right to "inspect" their transcripts-- most college online portals have links to unofficial transcripts. For transferring, many colleges will only offer conditional acceptance without an official transcript.

They should be able to complete the semester (if they choose) and inspect their transcripts but will not have access to the official transcript until the hold is removed by the college.

Right, which makes a hold a big deal, if they expect to continue classes either at USC or at another college. Hard to plan for the future with a hold. Once the hold is lifted, then it ceases to be a barrier to moving on.

Since their reputations are tarnished, the official transcripts are all the more important....if they want to continue their academic careers. If not, well then, who cares about the holds.

I am sure the feds will offer plea deals on sentencing to anyone willing to plead guilty right now. If they are offering plea deals in exchange for testimony, then I am guessing that they are trying to rope in other people involved in the actual scams, not testimony against other parents. ie, Lori Loughlin and Mossimo providing information that is used against other USC people that were in on the scam. So not only are these people facing charges, they are about to be put in the very awkward position of having to throw under the bus the very institutions that they were trying to suck up to.

The one who should be in prison for the longest is Singer, the master manipulator and biggest beneficiary of funds collected. Unfortunately, he has already plead guilty. Don't get me wrong, I think all of these people deserve jail time but it seems to me that most of these folks don't have someone else to turn in as an exchange for leniency.

Yes, the articles today mention that they expect more charges against more people and anyone willing to help might get a deal.

I interpreted Lori's email that Olivia was "confused" about the application process to mean: we don't want to bother with this paperwork - so do it for us.

The multiple applications were to cover the scam to get into USC, it seems. The applications to other colleges were part of the cover-up that she was already "in" at USC.

The scam is bad, the cover up is always worse.

Interestingly enough, this would mean that the application was not submitted and attested to by the student. Is the student guilty if someone submitted for her? Gotta wonder if the parents weren't trying to make it so that their daughter wouldn't be liable if caught......

Was the ruse going to continue once the daughters got to college - as in were their grades going to be altered there? Because snorkeling in the islands in lieu of studying won't get you As.

Sad part is, seems all she wanted to go to school for is to party. Why do you need to be in a good school for that?

And she didn't just want to party with just anybody. I mean look at the Yacht she ended up on.

I don't think we have heard officially. But I suspect they were just going to be moved along. It would be interesting to see what grades Olivia got for the fall semester.
