Found Deceased NC- Austin Buck Long, 22, Columbus County, 25 September 2018

Austin Buck Long, 22, of 456 Chair Factory Road in Nakina was last seen in the Hallsboro community on September 25 at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Austin is a white male, 6’1” tall and weighs around 185 pounds.

He was last seen wearing no shirt, tan shorts, and gray shoes.

Austin has numerous tattoos including “Lisa” on one arm, a skull with a three point crown on his left hand, and a six point star with a “9” in the center.

The sheriff’s office says Long has previously never lost contact with his family.

He has 9 arrests in NC including 2 for assault for which he was put on probation. One of his "missing" pictures appears to show him displaying a gang symbol. I'm afraid he likely fell in with the wrong sort of people with this pattern of behavior. Prayers for his Mom.

I see the hand signs you are referring. There is more than one with him and that hand sign. I know it is a Pokeman Go hand sign. I am trying to figure out if I can find a gang relation to it. It isn't one of the big ones that I am familiar with. It could be a new/hybrid gang and their sign. If it was just one finger and the thumb I would go with Bloods.

BODY LOCATED

Hallsboro, NC – On October 13, 2018, CUE Center for Missing Persons was conducting a search for a missing person in the area of Thurman Road in Hallsboro. During the search, CUE located a body in a wooded area off of Thurman Road.

The identity and cause of death are pending autopsy results.

No additional information will be released at this time.

I'm a little confused about what happened. The CUE Center for Missing Persons has a post about his case. It says that he was riding in a car with two people. They say he stole two cartons of smokes from the BP in town and then ran south. That would match up with the Thurman Road location. It's about a half-mile to the south of the gas station. But what happened to him while he was running? Was he hit by a car? Shot by someone? Did he run into the woods and get injured?

Austin's pose looks to me like just a tongue-in-cheek tough-guy finger-gun. He has a close-knit family, blue-collar trade, has mostly white friends and no gang tattoos - his rap sheet says rural NC trouble-maker to me. It would seem his death was by misadventure though I wonder why he was running south - did he just grab the smokes and run or was he being chased?

Searchers looking for missing man find body in Hallsboro - WWAY TV

Found in wooded area. They are not saying the typical LE "believes there is no danger to the public" type statements in this finding.
Regardless, I am very sorry for the family's loss... whoever it turns out to be.

Today the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said the Medical Examiner’s Office had identified the body as Long.

A cause of death has not been released as investigators wait for full results of the autopsy.
