Heather Williams Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Heather Marie Williams to be with the Lord and Savior on Sunday January 5, 2025.

Heather grew up in Fayetteville and attended Cape Fear High School, where she enjoyed playing softball and spending time with friends. Known for her beautiful green eyes, contagious laugh, and radiant smile, Heather brought joy to those around her. She loved kids and would always do her best to make them laugh or cheer them up. Heather loved to take pictures, fish with her dad, go thrift shopping with her mom, to the beach with family and was always looking for the next dog to rescue.

Throughout her life, Heather faced many trials and tribulations but remained steadfast in her faith. She loved Jesus deeply and was never hesitant to raise her hands in worship, praising Him through both triumphs and challenges. Her unwavering devotion to God was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Nearly a decade ago, Heather experienced the heartbreaking loss of her brother Joseph Williams. This loss left a lasting impact on her heart, but her faith provided comfort as she awaited the day they would be reunited. We take solace in knowing that Heather and Joseph are now together again, walking the Streets of Gold in Heaven.

Heather is survived by her loving parents, Paul and Theresa Williams; her brother David Williams; and her sisters Mary Williams, Beth Cottocenteno and Brooke Strickland. She is preceded in death by her beloved brother Joseph Williams.

A celebration of Heather’s life will be held on Saturday February 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Dominion Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Heather’s love for God, family, and friends will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort and peace as we celebrate the beautiful life she lived.

I wonder if he has charges in other counties besides Cumberland. Not all counties in NC are live in the e-courts portal yet, only 49, to date.

Regardless, what a rap sheet to be a free man. Unbelievable. A crime that never would have happened if the perp was in prison where he belongs! jmo
Agree! I thought the whole purpose of the “habitual felon” charge/conviction was so that the criminal could be kept behind bars - essentially the “three strikes, you’re out law”? IMO Heather’s murder should have NEVER HAPPENED if the law - AND THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR UPHOLDING IT! - would do their job!!

Such a beautifully written obituary.
RIP Heather <3

I'd lost track of this case and I'm so sad to read the tragic update. I have no words for the monster that did this. She had such a short life, filled with hardship and to know that someone preyed upon her weaknesses is vile. To know that he has a huge rap sheet and was walking free........ again, no words.
The heartache this family has endured is horrible. No family deserves that, and I wish them nothing but the best going forward, trying to heal from life's cruelties.

Horace McRae, Siermons’ former employer, said Siermons should have never been released back into society after a previous conviction.

In 2016, McRae hired Siermons for construction work but fired him six months later for disrespecting customers. McRae said Siermons then kidnapped, beat, and shot him. Siermons also kidnapped and tried to shoot McRae’s fiancée at the time and tried to set McRae’s house on fire with him still inside.

“It was hard,” Mary Williams, 27, said after Siermons’ first appearance before Cumberland County 12th Judicial District Court Judge Tiffany Whitfield, who set his ensuing court date for Feb. 8. “He took Heather from us.”

“We trust the police and the DAs,” she said, “and we are grateful to the community who rallied around Heather.” And, she said, for Detective Emad Alrafai and other detectives who investigated.

“She had the brightest smile,” Mary Williams said about her little sister, who suffered cognitive impairment issues from an Oct. 12, 2015, motor vehicle accident. “She had a traumatic brain injury. But she was always happy-go-lucky and singing and dancing.”

Mary Williams is an assistant district attorney in Alamance County.

“We trust the police and the DAs,” she said, “and we are grateful to the community who rallied around Heather.” And, she said, for Detective Emad Alrafai and other detectives who investigated.

Mary is an ADA, I didn't know that - makes sense now.

So if I understand correctly. McRae owned a construction company, Siermons was an employee who was fired after six months. Not by McRae directly, but by his job superintendant. After being fired - Siermons kidnapped, beat & shot McRae, attempted to set his house on fire with McRae inside. His fiancee was also kidnapped.

So the motive was retribution for being fired? He only served five years for that?! We see this all the time, but I'm always shocked at how the warning signs were ignored by the judicial system. Heather wasn't as lucky as MrRae & his fiancee.

It's outrageous. What else was necessary to prove he is unfit to live in society? :(

Heather Williams

The suspect has a lengthy criminal history in Cumberland County, court records show. He is also facing an out-of-state probation charge from Jan. 16 — the same day he was charged with first-degree murder — meaning he was on probation in North Carolina when he was accused of a crime in another state

Why was this obviously violent predator out of prison?!?

Rhetorical question but someone with a record like his was able to interact with a very vulnerable person with fatal results.
haven't read this last page of posts yet so maybe that is answered but my question is, what is this possible conflict the DA in Cumberland County has that results in this murder case being punted to the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys? Is it because this man received a plea from their office he shouldn't have received for prior bad acts? Was he some sort of criminal information why got chances he should not have from Cumberland County?

I agree with Mr. McRae, Siermons shouldn't have been able to harm Heather, he shouldn't have been a free man in the first place.

12th Judicial District Court Judge Tiffany Whitfield set his next court date for Feb. 8. Making a note of the date so I can check for updates after that court date.

as to Mary Williams being an assistant AD for Alamance County, it is clear now why she was the family member running point with the press, she was particularly equipped to do so and did an admirable job of advocating for Heather while missing and representing the family as the search was on.

Based upon current msm accounts, there is little background to explain the conflict of interest. I find it an interesting question, as well.

Tyrell Siermons, 30, was arrested Thursday on a charge of first-degree murder. Court records indicate Siermons is on probation out of Georgia. It was not immediately clear what the Georgia charges were. He also has a lengthy criminal history in Cumberland County, including charges of kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a felon and assault with a deadly weapon in 2016. Department of Correction records indicate he served just shy of seven years in prison on the charges and was released in 2023.

Why was he out so soon ? Heather would be alive, I am flabbergasted that such a person would be free to roam and do serious harm again.

Mary’s position is with Alamance County DA’s office, IIRC. Regardless, I think you’re correct, it will track back to her.
I too think it has to do with Mary's position but I can't quite figure out how removing it from the Cumberland county prosecutor and placing it in the hands of Alamance avoids a conflict if it is Mary related?

Why no mugshot?
An interesting question @JosieMae …. This WRAL News online January 16, 2025 article updated January 17, 2025 entitled ‘Fayetteville man charged with first-degree murder after missing woman found dead in woods’ has additional details and may help:

From that article: “Detectives have charged Tyrell Siermons, 30, of Fayetteville with first-degree murder.”
