There was another oxendine woman missing ans murdered in that area. Personally i believe a serial killer is operating there targeting working girls.

What a scary situation. Robeson County Sheriffs Office Facebook page (link below) has comments stating she has been traced to Santee, SC area which is almost 2 hours south. No update that she’s been found though.

Robeson County Sheriff's Office
She has been found safe according to their site

Since we are limited on what we can post on this still, I'll just point out the wording on sheriffs post has changed.

"Brittany Oxendine has been located and is safe. We appreciate everyone who assisted with locating her. The investigation is ongoing and more details will be released at the appropriate time."

Oh no. Maxton is between Laurinburg and Lumberton.
Yes -- it's ~ 25 miles between Laurinburg & Lumberton. Laurinburg is in Scotland County, and it is the county seat -- population is ~ 15,000.

All those other towns in the area are just little farming towns -- very few job opportunities in those little places, and the closest city having any kind of population is Fayetteville, NC, pop. ~ 200,000, and it is very close to Ft. Bragg, NC, home of The Airborne and Special Operations Forces, with about 50,000 active military personnel. The Fayetteville/Ft. Bragg area also has a fairly high crime rate, and it is about 35 miles from Lumberton.

I believe they are Lumbee. They may be related.

It is possible they are related. OTOH, Oxendine is one of the most common Lumbee surnames in that area. They settled in the area in the early -- mid 1800's.

Thanks borndem!
I’ve traveled the Highway 74 corridor down to the coast for many years. I was always careful not to stop in Maxton or Lumberton if I was alone. Especially at night.

Sad to say, MimosaMornings, but you're wise to just "keep on going" down that highway area. Never, never when you are alone.
I grew up in Lumberton, but things there were much better than they are now. I never had that fear because there was no reason to have that fear "back then." But I left to go to college and never looked back. I have no family there now, so I haven't returned in several years.
Back then, those kids who did not go on to college or tech schools after high school could get employed by one of the several factories or other businesses in and around Lumberton, and they could make a pretty good living. Now, there is hardly anything for those kids unless it's farming or working for dad or mom. And this is how other little towns like this are doing, too. No good jobs -- factories closed, shopping centers losing stores, etc., etc. So you cross your fingers and board a Trailways or Greyhound, or you hook up with someone who knows how to cook meth, or, or, or.
Some kids get lucky and some don't.
