Three adults have been arrested after a young child was found locked in a dog kennel Wednesday morning, deputies said.

Three adults have been arrested after a young child was found locked in a dog kennel, deputies said.

The Davidson County Sheriff's Office said they received an anonymous tip on Wednesday about a young child being locked in a cage on a property about 2 1/2 hours south of Lexington, North Carolina, in the Southmont area.

Deputies responded to the address on Cress Road and found a 9-year-old child locked in a dog kennel.

The kennel was secured with a padlock.

Deputies forced the cage open and EMS arrived on the scene to administer aid.”

Paraphrasing, they also said during the PC that the main reason for the PC was to remind/encourage the public to call LE when they notice something is off, that the public plays a major role in helping in situations like this.

Again loosely paraphrasing, when asked by a reporter what it was like to respond to a scene like this, they said this is the reason and reward for being in LE, to help those, like this child, who are vulnerable and can’t help themselves.

Simmons said it was about 28 degrees outside when they found the child, and the child had been outside all night. Investigators later found animals at the home, but no animals were in the dog lot with the child.

“There was some clothes that was there, just bits and pieces, a little bit of food was inside, but not enough to sustain warmth for this child,” Simmons said.

Simmons says Jonathan Starr is the child’s biological father. The other two arrested were the child’s step-mother and aunt.

So glad that someone who saw something, said something.

I guess the 9 year old did "something bad," right?? SMH. Grrrr.
This may not have been the first time this happened. The child is 9 y/o, so he or she should be able to tell LE how/why this happened, if he/she will.
Glad that the child was not harmed enuff to have to stay overnight in the hospital. Hoping he or she has had a good warm bath; good, warm food; and has some warm clean clothes.
Guessing the child and the other children are together (if that is considered the best thing for them) in a caring place. Where will they go from there?
Dammit.
