NC - Fort Bragg Spc. Enrique Roman-Martinez, 21, Cape Lookout, 23 May 2020 *severed head washed ashore*

Homicide is a blanket term for when one person kills another. Intent can't usually be determined forensically but you can have unintentional killing that still is criminally negligent or reckless homicide, which I expect is the case here.

It hadn't even occurred to me but @Coffiecat is on the right track that the detail about his tent blowing over and the party helping him to set it back up is probably a key piece of their "story" for some reason, since it's established as being fabricated at least about their contact with rangers the next day.

Yes. Homicide isn't always intentional. But I got the impression that police meant to use the term in this instance to indicate that someone did it to him and that it wasn't just an accident. But I suppose it still could have been an accidental death and cover up.

I looked up the weather for that night. You can't tell much. But there was 1 inch of rain and wind speeds averaged 8-10 mph.

You have to pay attention to the verbiage used as its a legal document with specific designation. When homicide is designated it means that the
death was intentional by another human. Dismembered is a designation or classification as well. It is all in the context of the investigation.

The 911 call reveals some questionable responses. It is important that you listen to the 911 call yourself as some reporting is
omitting the exact verbiage. Deception can be heard is the voice.

Listen to the call

Dispatch: "And when as the last time you saw him?"
Caller: "So we all went to bed at mid........at 12:03 That's when we all decided to go to bed and that is the last time we saw him"
Dispatch: "And do you know what kind of clothing he was wearing at all?"
Caller: "So he was just.....When we last saw him he was just wearing blue shorts"

Break Down

"So we all went to bed at mid" .................he did not complete the word "midnight" Midnight is an time point he is trying to avoid. .
"at 12:03 That's when we all decided to go to bed and that is the last time we saw him"............This is an indication that the group
made a collective decision to go to sleep......

Last Description

So he was just...........Here the caller starts a statement an decides to change the narrative......

When we last saw him he was just wearing blue shorts..................Once agian collective recollection of events.

The 911 caller is trying to keep the story a collective one.

The Family gives us some inside information in that She said "What they did to him". That points to dismembered.

The 911 caller is trying to avoid "Midnight". The detectives should key on this word in e-mails or texts.

Every lie is based on the truth........The truth seems to end at midnight and the lie starts @12:03

According to the report from ABC7:
•EM was camping with 6 men & 1 woman
•caller stated they all went to bed at “12:03” and that’s the last they saw of EM
•sister is interviewed
•she made a couple comments: “why did they have to do this to him? He was already gone. Why take that extra step” (nothing has been proven however)

12:03 is awfully specific. The caller sounded nervous. All of those guys and one girl. Did Enrique try to stop something? Or maybe he narced on someone. I think he was getting out. Those are possible motives.

Exactly! 12:03!
Who remembers a specific time like that during a 911 call? IMO

Fort Bragg paratrooper from Chino killed while camping with fellow troopers

My heart hurts for this family...

On May 29, the Army announced partial remains washed up on Shackleford Banks, near the campsite. One week later, dental records confirmed the dismembered body was that of the missing soldier.

“It was so cruel what they did to him," Griselda Martinez said. "Why did they have to do that to him? He's already gone. Why did they have to go the extra step to do this to him? So, it was really hard for us, too."

This one is all over the place .....Reporters reporting different.

Soldier's death ruled murder, $15,000 reward for information ...............June 9 2020

Reward increased for information on the homicide of Fort Bragg paratrooper .......July 01, 2020

Camp sight .........Mile Marker 46 on South Core Banks

“The remains washed up on Shackleford Banks Island, part of the Cape Lookout National Seashore, an area where the prevailing tides have unfortunately washed ashore remains in years past," reads a Monday press release provided by Grey. "A positive identification was made using the soldier’s dental records.”

The 21-year-old soldier was last seen on May 22 at a campsite near Mile Marker 46 on South Core Banks, one of the islands that make up Cape Lookout National Seashore, a 56-mile-long stretch of barrier islands on the North Carolina coast.

The 911 Caller wants to place the group at the camp site @ 12:03 avoiding the usage of the word "Midnight". Midnight or 12:00
becomes critical. For us we see no difference in 12:00 and 12:03. (we are not on an island). When you are on an island 3 minutes becomes
a significant number. Traveling 3 minutes from Mile Marker 46 becomes a location......

Working the case in two directions...The lead in question is who invited him and who did he ride with?

It was Memorial Day weekend. That weekend was one of the first weekends some places were finally opening back up and/or people were getting back out doing things.

Questions that come to mind:
•Was the area more crowded than normal?
•Did ERM even want to go on this trip?
•As asked by @Inobu who exactly invited him?
•Was he even friends (close to) this group of people he went camping with?

Army Increases Reward to $25K in Death of Fort Bragg Paratrooper

He was last seen wearing blue shorts and no shirt, the release read. Roman-Martinez’s wallet and phone were located at the campsite.

Family demands justice in death of Fort Bragg paratrooper killed while camping in the Outer Banks with fellow troopers

The caller said Roman-Martinez was just wearing blue shorts when they last saw him.

Martinez was shocked to hear her brother would walk away in just shorts, leaving everything behind.

"Because my brother can't see without his glasses, so for him to walk out in the middle of the night without his glasses, it's not likely. He can't see, where would he go?" Griselda asks.

Did he have his glasses on when he went missing(1st article)?
Were they left at the campsite (2nd article)?

There are other articles that state both circumstances, I just linked two for an example

Torres: Justice is in the Public’s Hands

Congresswoman Norma J. Torres (CA35) today urged the public for any information to help bring the murderer(s) of Spc. Enrique Roman-Martinez to justice. The call comes as her office asked the U.S. Army for a full update on its investigation after its delayed notice of the murder for Roman-Martinez’s family, who received official word only after seeing it in the news.

I’m unable to post the permalink to the park’s fb post which updated information when ERM was missing. So I just linked the page above.

The post ( MAY 23) is titled 2nd Update on Search. It isn’t too far down or hard to find. There are over 300 comments. Since it is not allowed to post any of these comments, I can only say CM’s comments are very important/helpful. If they are true, then wow! IMO.
**I also linked the map again for reference to comments & locations.

From the posts trying to locate witnesses to the jeeps speeding with guys hanging on, I'd say it's quite likely true and they attempted to cover it up. Looking like these friends have screwed up their lives, and for what?

Especially if the date the witness is referring to is correct, it’s not good for the group.

Spc. Enrique Roman-Martinez: Family seeks info in death of paratrooper

Article released July 16, 2020, 1 hour ago

Phrases/Wording used AND Additional Details Shared:

•Michael Coleman, served as chaplain for Roman-Martinez
•Coleman is trying to help the soldier’s family understand and deal with how the military works.
•Army officials have said they aren’t releasing much information because of the ongoing investigation.
•Army officials have not told the family much. The investigators don’t want the family to talk about the investigation.
“They’ve asked us not to say anything that might impede the investigation or keep them from arresting someone,”
•But the family wants to know what happened, who killed ERM.
•Part of ERM’s body washed up on the beach a week after he was reported missing.
•The investigators are working hard on the case. Family believes there are people of interest, but so far the investigators don’t have enough evidence to charge anyone.
•Family said there are inconsistencies in what is known about his death
•A 911 caller said Roman-Martinez might have killed himself, but his sister feels sure that he wouldn’t have done that. A coroner ruled the death a homicide, she said.

  • #137
Has anyone found a verified source to use in order to link the full 911 call?

  • #138
Why would a caller think he might have killed himself? Was there some sort of basis for that statement?

Are podcasts allowed to link?

I’m unable to find an answer in the rules thread; I may be overlooking it!

I don't think podcasts are allowed unless they are produced by an established media company like the New York Times.
