Maybe by or near a utility pole? Not on it?

According to this article, the remains were found in dense woods. It's plausible that no one noticed a decomposing human on a utility pole for that long considering where it was- but it sounds unlikely. It would certainly be bizarre if the decedent was on the pole instead of near it.

@dgfred Yes, agreeing w your interp.
NAMUS shows this: "Utility workers found bones when doing maintenance on a utility pole."
Imo the following wording would likely be more accurate or easier to follow.
"While doing maintenance on a utility pole, utility workers found bones nearby."
Of course, it possible the skeletal remains were actually suspended on the pole. IDK imo, jko moo

Hoping he is identified and that friends and family learn of outcome, even tho sad.

Thanks for the link!

The area is near the intersection of E. Elm Street and S. Hillcrest Drive, that is just outside Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Would a missing airman be too simple here?

The possibility is there given they're only 2 weeks into the investigation. Perhaps military investigators are sorting through the list of airmen who are AWOL while the ME and lab work on getting DNA from the deceased. There are 5 civilians who are listed in NamUs as missing from Goldsboro, NC. There's likely nothing to this but I find it oddly interesting that 4 of the 5 went missing in late Aug/early Sept. MOO
