I am curious to know if dogs were used to track the perpetrator’s scent backwards, that is, from Hania’s trailer back into the woods (behind the trailer), and perhaps onto a trail to see where he came from?
(That is one long sentence.)
Dear Mercedes,
I believe they would have done exactly as you have stated.
It is possible that DNA on an object (discarded cigarette?) has been found on the path/in the woods behind the home which will match the same found in the area of the P.O.I. (I am hoping so much that this is the case)!
It would provide critical information for the investigative team if the P.O.I. was using a cell phone because the Cell Site Location Information (cell tower dump) would include his cell number.
With this information, the investigative team could use a "stingray" (Cell Site Simulator - described in N.C. news article below) in police car to drive around different areas to see if there is a match in that area with a certain cell number.
I believe that either CSLI/ data technology or DNA (or both) will provide answers hopefully very soon.
How local law enforcement can track your every move
