It's certainly possible and I'm hoping this is the case because if so it could lead to the solving of this case. If warming up the vehicle was Hania's normal routine, this does seem quite likely.

What gets me is that he was able to disappear so completely. Hania was heard screaming, so authorities were contacted immediately, yet the guy gets away. I sure hope they are doing a search of every garage within a certain number of miles of wherever that photo was taken.

This is what always amazes me these days. There is saturation CCTV everywhere, people's homes, stores, highways, dash cams, etc., not to mention knowing where everyone's location is through mobile phones pinging everywhere. Yet still people disappear without trace even with all this modern technology. Also criminals don't seem to care anymore, whatever crime they commit they don't seemed bothered if they get caught or not. Its frightening really when you think about it.

I95 runs right through Lumberton - probably only 4 or 5 miles from the mobile home park :(

Jumping off this, razzledazzle, I’m googling right now “I-95 attempted abduction”...

I’ve got this so far:

NC woman shares terrifying account of attempted abduction

Moved on to more specific “attempted abduction North Carolina”, as usual not lacking on results:

Police investigating after possible attempted abduction near UNCW campus - WWAY TV

The challenge with these is we always see other attempted abductions in any area we look into, and like I said rarely is there a connection.

However this WAS the case in little Jessica Ridgeway’s case (attempted assault on adult jogger months earlier).

So I think we should keep looking maybe.

Seems rather brazen for a first time offender, if random, moo.

Did anyone else notice at about 1:18 into the press conference a vehicle similar to the one they are looking for drove by? (see screenshot attached)
I'm not saying it's the vehicle, but it got me wondering how common is that specific make/model?
Are they a commonly stolen vehicle?

Actual vehicle:

Great eye! If I'm not mistaken it was seen earlier in the video trying to turn left on this street through oncoming traffic. There was a police car that came by the opposite direction where the front of the vehicle and license plate would have been visible to the officers. I'd think they'd be on the lookout for the peeling hood and plate, so likely not that car. They aren't commonly stolen - the Ford that is popular with thieves according to the insurance company's and LE is the Ford F150.

Great catch. I think it looks very very similar. I think its worth calling in this as a tip just in case.

The perp may have gotten wind of the press conference and maybe did a drive by.

( @MassGuy and everyone else. Get your arses in here, we need more folks in this thread!

I want to hear your thoughts MG on all this—this window of opportunity is bugging me. And not using his own vehicle...)

Where did he come from!?
This. In my mind, the chances of this being random are very slim.

Is a guy dressed in criminal clothing going to be just hanging out in a trailer park waiting to find a young teen with a running vehicle to kidnap?

The perp may have switched out license plates so if I was LE I would not really care much if the license plate didnt match. That vehicle sure looked like the recent one captured on surveilence video.

Its of course hard to tell for sure but worth LE reviewing their videos.

I really don't think it's the car, but if anyone would like to call in a tip, please do. :)

If you look at Google maps - go to the satellite terrain option- you could go thru the mobile home park roads-Hornets Rd- to Northeast Park, which is now also called Dr. Raymond Pennington Athletic Complex- it’s 90 acres.

Park is 500 Hornet Rd, Lumberton.

I’m in a hotel and map won’t upload. Sorry.

In your opinions, do you guys think Hania looks older for her age? I’m asking this for the purpose of thinking about the abductor’s potential victim preferences (even though we know age is not always an indicator).

(Gosh I feel like I know all you guys. Our case histories together are getting quite thick.)

ETA: So this is not many of our first rodeos with child abductions, yet they always seem to baffle.

Are we truly baffled? Or are the signs right there in front of us...?

Can Occam tell us anything here?

There is a statement made on sm by a neighbor that was also in one of the news interviews ( not 911 caller). I wish MSN would note it so it can be discussed. To me, it changed my way of thinking.

In my group for Hania, someone found photos of her from her friends sm. I tagged a local reporter who is going to share them. She looks completely different with make up and different angles. I feel like most people wouldn't recognize her off of the photos released.

IF this is the vehicle, then boy that would be soooo ARS (Jessica Ridgeway’s killer, drove by the police searching and filmed video and posted it on YouTube).

She would easily pass for 16 without makeup. I think that is one reason the time frame in which she disappeared bothers me.

delete. (Not sure that was her Instagram account).

So maybe the perp wasn’t necessarily looking for someone “childlike” (especially if was dressed, had makeup on and ready for school yet)?

“Hania is a Hispanic female, 5 feet tall, weighing approximately 126 pounds. She has black hair, and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue shirt with flowers and blue jeans,” it said.“

I agree with the other poster that the vehicle that drives by in the press conference at 1:18 is the same vehicle sitting in the parking lot right at the very beginning of the same clip. Right at the start of clip.

He appears to be watching from that parking lot and decides to drive in front.

From watching the cars go by I think he was sitting there in that parking lot longer than he needed to and was watching from a distance until he moved.

Could just be a strange coincidence with a similar looking vehicle but I don't like coincidences. Wouldnt it be something if that was the same vehicle that took the girl.

A great catch anyway as I would have never even noticed that vehicle. Not sure how common they are.

Suspects like those who has kidnapped Hania are opportunists and when they see the opportunity to strike in a blink of an eye without any warning they seize on it.

Sadly we have discussed cases where it has happened before to other children right on busy streets in broad daylight as well.

Thank God there were witnesses in her case when so often no one hears or sees anything and the child just vanishes without a trace.

Imo he wasn't there to steal the vehicle. His sole motive was kidnapping Hania. She was his intended target....not the vehicle. Imo

Often sexual pedophile deviants are always looking for prey and when they see an opportunity to strike they take it. Tragically I think it will be the case here too.

I am so worried for Hania and her safety. Imo she is with a horrible individual that wants to do grave harm against this terrified child.

God bless Hania and all who love her who are filled with agonizing worry and dread.

Imo

Dear Oceanblueeyes,

I agree with everything you've said. This is such a terribly frightening situation.

This was an opportunity and he took it - whether or not he had been "watching" her.

I feel there's a great chance that he knows someone in that area and was visiting them. The police are likely checking this out seriously.

As others asks - "why was he on foot?" and "in that particular area"? I'm sure the authorities are considering this heavily as well.

If the perpetrator indeed was familiar with the area and often visited someone there, there is also a great chance that he noticed Hania and watched her from time to time. That morning he saw an opportunity to take her.

Unfortunately for Hania, the keys were in the vehicle and it was running. A perfect opportunity for this perpetrator. In my opinion.

(Can I just please vent for a moment to say I feel frustrated that all my hours, years of analyzing/comparing/hypothesizing/speculating/examining/studying/brainstorming/investigating seems to go nowhere are far as bringing these kids home alive? Imagine how LE feels..)
