Mur*der ac*cused breaks down as Ja*sons sis*ter tells ju*rors about chil*drens mother Mags+8 moreBy Cather*ine Fe*gan Chief Cor*re*spon*dent
MOLLY Martens shook and sobbed un*con*trol*lably in court yes*ter*day when her sis*ter-in-law told ju*rors the name of Jack and Sarah Cor*betts mother Mags. Dur*ing the sec*ond week of ev*i*dence in the trial of Ja*son Cor*betts wife Fa*ther-in-law, his sis*ter Tracey Lynch took the stand to tes*tify for the pros*e*cu*tion. When she men*tioned Mags Cor*bett, the late mother of Ja*sons chil*dren, Ms Martens be*gan cry*ing audibly.
Snip
Who was Jack and Sarahs mother? asked prose*cu*tor Ina Stan*ton. Mags Cor*bett, Mrs Lynch replied.
At this point, Ms Martens was over*come by emo*tion in her seat, rock*ing, cry*ing and snif*fling au*di*bly.
What is your le*gal sta*tus with re*gard to Jack and Sarah Cor*bett? con*tin*ued Ms Stan*ton. My hus*band and I are the le*gal guardians of Jack and Sarah Cor*bett, said Mrs Lynch. Again, on the left hand*side of the room, Ms Martens be*gan to shake and cry.

Apologies, I don't know why it pastes all the asterisks!

Brilliant. Poor man. And very intelligent to do so imo.

The statement is of limited use.
That is all it is - a statement.
it does not represent proof.
it is still a case of " he said he said" and who people wish to believe.
After the physical injuries evidence I was convinced that both TM and MM would be found guilty but I am not so sure now - the prosecution did not prove anything beyond reasonable doubt, in my opinion. We still don't even know what transpired that night.
Regarding unpredictability, the very first trial I moderated for Websleuths left all of us stunned. It was the Caylee Anthony case. There was overwhelming evidence against Casey Anthony and the jury acquitted her. I never recovered from that one.
I don't know, irishmartin, if I believe JC was drugged with the small trace amounts in his system. But then I am not knowledgeable about pharmaceuticals.
I disagree. It's useful to know that tm is the kind of man that would lie about what a deceased man said and where he said it and then go on to insult the deceased man while giving testimony in his trial for beating his son in law to death with his daughter. The statement is of limited use.

True. All the tears in the world won't win the jurors over imo unless they are cried for her crime and her murdered husband.....so far no tears for him the man who blessed her life with those kids.In my opinion she only cried, because a room full of people were reminded MM is not the kids mother. She was never their biological mother. She showed again how selfish she is. MM's character is very questionable. She has no remorse for her actions that led to Jason's death, however she wants Jason's children's statements to free her, she wants Jason's children. She wants Jason's money. When since August 1, 2015 has MM put the children's needs first?
Nothing I have read so far has given any indication as to who made the initial call in the morning or even calls from the previous days. TM is sticking with his story that it was his bright idea to visit them when he woke up on the morning of the 1st of August.
The 66-year-old gave dramatic testimony as he took the stand yesterday where he was accused of using his FBI training and legal qualifications to try and outwit detectives investigating the murder of his son-in-law.....It was later heard that Mr Martens had no knowledge of a brick found in the master bedroom where father-of-two Jason Corbett was killed, of it being used as a weapon and that he didnt see his daughter using any brick on the night Mr Corbett died......
The trial also heard that Jasons wife Molly is the sole beneficiary of a $600,000 insurance policy in her name....
The father of four from Knoxville, Tennessee, told the court in North Carolina that he had never witnessed Mr Corbett being physically violent toward his daughter before that night.....
In relation to baton training he had received, he was asked to identify which parts of the body should be struck to bring a man down.
He said the ankle, the knees or the kidneys. The prosecution contended that a baseball bat is similar to a baton and should have been used in that way.....
Greg Brown, for the prosecution, told the court that during an interview conducted by two detectives investigating Mr Corbetts death, Mr Martens interrupted questioning and took charge.
He had already told the two men that he had a long career in the FBI and that he really enjoyed outwitting other spy agencies. In an earlier role, he liked kicking in doors and arresting people, the trial heard. Mr Brown said that at one point during interview, the defendant said: Perhaps it would be helpful if I just launched into a story that would account for my state of mind......
Mr Martens said Jason had told him he intended to make Molly the adoptive mother of his children, Jack and Sarah. But this never happened, he said, and it was a source of strain. He said he was aware of the fact his daughter was the beneficiary of Mr Corbetts insurance policy, worth $600,000......

Ben Coley was asked this yesterday on twitter and answered that they were due to attend a dinner party, another couple cancelled so they decided to cancel too and go visit the Corbett's. Seeing as the prosecution haven't called the other dinner party subjects to contradict this claim one can only presume that it checks out.

One thing seems certain the father is taking the blame. He wants the daughter to keep the 500k paid out to her (motive enough) So he is suggesting he hit the man in the hallway when the man had his daughter in a headlock. But it didn't work, so he kept hitting a man with baseball bat till he stopped wriggling.
There could be blood splatter on the walls then if it happened there. Either way he was trained in dealing with aggressive people by the F.B.I. Who do not seem to have an opinion either way, after 31 years of service.
If the man, any man, had his daughter by the throats then surely her could break his leg at the knee. He was in the FBI but doesn't grab his gun. You could shoot a man in the knee.
This is a guy married to your daughter. There is no history of threatening behaviour such as this, but you decide you need to kill him. None of this makes sense. It can't of course because it isn't true. We could be talking about two sociopaths here....

Yes we need transcripts or at least good reliable relay of info. He was on the stand for 3 hours and we only have a handful of questions/answers it's frustrating.Mr Freedman said Mr Martens instructed Mr Corbett to release Ms Martens-Corbett.
"[But Mr Corbett said:] I'm sorry - I shouldn't be doing this," he said.
However, he said Mr Corbett then put his entire arm around his wife's throat.
"I am going to kill her," Mr Freedman said the Irishman replied.

what happened to this alleged statement?
Where was it yesterday?
Did they change their minds about including it when the false allegation regarding MF was not allowed?
Wish we had a transcript when we could unweave every single word..
Its utterly blatant!
Its outrageous.
