Blessingway

Typically we begin the blessingway by
forming a circle, and welcoming
mother and guests to the ceremony.
We open the ceremony by burning
sage (optional, of course). Next, the
mother receives a flowered wreath
for her head and receives a cornmeal
foot bath and massage. Next, we go
around the circle and each woman
strings a bead onto a necklace and
offers a prayer/affirmation for the
birth. This necklace can later be used
as a source of strength and focus
during labor. Next we pass a roll of
string around and each woman wraps
it around her wrist. To close the
ceremony we cut the string between
each woman and they tie it into a
bacelet. The women wear these
bracelets until after the baby is
born. After the ceremony we eat chat
and have a good time!

Blessing Way - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One form that a Blessing Way can take is common in coastal northern California is as a non-consumerist adaptation of the more traditional baby shower in which close friends and family, sometimes all women, and sometimes both men and women, gather to show support, coordinate postnatal meal plans, sing, and bless the mother. Often a ball of yarn is passed around the circle with each person present wrapping the yarn around a wrist (or ankle if having yarn around their wrist would interfere in their lives, i.e. if they work as a nurse) to symbolize being tied together as a community in support of the mother. When the circle is disbanded the yarn is broken and participants tie the yarn onto themselves as a bracelet or anklet, and it is worn until after the baby is born.

JG, on her site, Justice4Jenna.org, there is a montage of photos. The first link is of Jenna and her family.

Look CLOSELY at the second set of wedding photos- at least, SHE is in her wedding gown, with a Lynard Skynard hat on backwards, and has put the heavy leather braided bands on her wrists. Apparently, the first set of photos were either taken by a photographer who photoshopped the tattoos out, OR Jenna put Dermablend makeup cover on them. I tend to think she covered them up with makeup most of the time.

The very first photo of her with the leather wrist bands on also shows her making what looks like the evil eye hand sign. It could be some kind of American Sign Language sign for all I know.. but in later photos, there appears to be a black beaded or knotted cord on her left wrist as well as the heavy braided wrist bands which she wore to work. A friend of hers is also wearing similar wrist bands in a couple of photos.

Here's the link to A photo of Jenna but I don't know if the slideshow allows me to pinpoint the exact photo I want to show you. It's easy to find though, about the 10th or 11th photo from the beginning, which is of her and her husband, baby and some men sitting on a sofa:

http://www.flickr.com/groups/450523@N20/pool/show/

I also don't think the composite photo is of the killer unless the killer looks like Jenna and her husband fused together in some weird way. Her husband is a slight man.. but definitely no ponytail. Jenna had the ponytail.
I think that whoever strangled her, bashed her skull and then slit her throat from left ear to extreme right was savagely brutal and not what the womanly looking composite sketch shows, unless there was extreme rage against Jenna for personal reasons, not a random crime, IMO.
It appears from her wounds that she fought back.

The hand "signal" is sign language for "I love you"

I thought that was much more in keeping with what I think Jenna was like, but I didn't want to say for fear of influencing others. Funny how Sophia's " Evil Eye" hand sign looked a lot like that, isn't it?
I know sign language as far as the alphabet goes, but not the fluent hand " words", and knew that it could be a combination of the letters I, L, and Y.
I just wasn't sure.

Thank you for looking and for your post.

Jenna was a darling girl. Let's find more info about her case, work together, and come up with more than we have!!!
She really has been mostly ignored in the media and here too. Her case breaks my heart, like so many others do.

I swear, I don't know how I live in this world. I don't know how to copy and paste from her autopsy report which is in Adobe Acrobat format.

Here's a transcript of the findings about her wrists and what is applied to them.
"On the right wrist is a white metal watch with a brown band and a string of yarn tied about the wrist. On the left wrist is a white metal charm bracelet and a string of yarn tied about the wrist."

"Identifying marks and scars consist of tattoos on the bilateral wrists of 3 black swirls".

The hand "signal" is sign language for "I love you"
Actually, it is similar but if her thumb isn't extended and if the palm isn't facing forward then it may not be, (although I'm sure there are plenty of people that don't hold their hand in the correct way when using sign language). Regardless, what she's doing in that photo is a very common hand signal you see young kids, rappers, etc., do very, very often. I don't know if it used to mean something but it's become so common that she may be just goofing around while doing it. To me, the sideways hat and the expression on her face lead me to believe she was simply being silly.

I'll see if I can find anything more about that hand gesture when I get back later this morning. Here's a bit in the meantime. I think it shows how these hand signs have become almost silly to some people:

Looking at this completely objectively, i don't think there is any relation between Jenna's bracelets, tattoos, and her murder. She seemed to be a rocker chick, i gotta say i thought the picture of her in the wedding gown with the Skynard had was a great pic! She looks like she really loved life. With the rock subculture, the "evil eye" (lnnl) sign and 'i love you' (lnnl w/thumb) in sign language sign is very similiar. It more so lnnl means "throwing the metal" and is common among a lot of today's youth who associate it with rock music. These kids are not devil worshippers or anything like that, they just enjoy the music. Her bracelets i think she just wore since she liked how they looked. She also has a studded belt in the one picture, which is often common wear in the rock subculture.
I did notice a few photos of her and friends bowling. I am wondering if she was on a league or a regular leisure bowler up until her death. It could be someone who had seen her somewhere and was stalking her either out of their own twisted reasons or intent on stealing the baby (then chickened out). I honestly don't believe that this is in any way gang related, and it seems random. I do think the killer may have been a female or a male slight enough in build as to not appear threatening. Also in the rock subculture, a lot of males have long hair. I hope LE look into these things.

I agree with all of the above.

One question, is that hand signal an "evil eye" sign? I didn't know the specific meaning of the sign. I have seen it referred to as "devil's hand" or satanic hand sign, etc., but even my own relatively young son does it frequently enough when goofing off with his buddies that I know that it doesn't mean that to most people anymore.

The lnnl sign is referred to as different things depending on who is "throwing it". It's safe to say it's common among rock music fans, my nephew does that same sign. I think it may have meant evil eye at a point in time, another point in time it may have been considered the devil horns sign, yet presently it seems a current fad associated with rock music fans. I wouldn't read too much into it, the kids themselves associate it with "throwing the metal" and rock music.

I think I agree with MeoW, that the hand gesture combined with the wrist accessories, etc., all seem to point simply to Jenna's "style". I do find all of this interesting, however, and will continue to post whatever I might find that has any potential relevance for the sake of continuing the discussion here. It's more than what we have currently, if nothing else.

About the cutting & pasting, I can't do it in Adobe either. I assumed that it just isn't possible.

What a cute girl she was. She definitely seemed funny & silly & a lot of fun to be around. I also see a lot of confidence in her. What a horrible tragedy. Let's hope the days are short until an arrest is finally announced.

And remember, Jersey Girl, she too was a victim of " overkill". The autopsy report, which is not really being looked at too closely as far as the severity of the onslaught against Jenna shows:

1) Manual strangulation severe enough to cause rupture of the blood vessels in her face and eyes.

2) Intracranial bleed near the TOD in a spot where it would be unusual for her to hit her head if she fell. Appears to be a head blow to me from the diagram.

3) Throat cut from behind left to right, over 3" deep. Probably meant to be an incisive stab wound, but I think Jenna was still fighting. YThat's why her earlobe on the left got cut.

Is this a rage overkill from someone who was supposed to love her? A druggie in a frenzied random kill? Jenna was not large at all.. did she fight? I believe she fell onto either gravel or pavement, depending on what the back of the parking lot is covered with. I think she tried hard to fight back, even at almost 9 months pregnant.

BTW, I meant no disrespect towards her by asking about the tattoos and a hand sign. I think she was a good kid.. but sometimes even good kids get mixed up with the wrong people. She may have been with a rocker crowd before she settled down to have all those little kids. (I place a timeline on it because I doubt a pregnant woman is going to risk Hepatitis C for her and her baby by getting tattoos and piercings, and she was pregnant almost continuously after her marriage to Tim.)

Have you listened to the 911 call, Jersey? What did you think? It was almost the war and peace of 911 calls from a stranger. He kept trying to tell WHY he knew the car was there, like making an alibi for why he was there.. Maybe I am trying too hard to find SOMETHING.

In my day, the rock symbol was the guys playing their air guitars. I feel really OLD.

Jenna's Story To Be Featured on NC WANTED January 26th

I obviously don't get the station and cannot view the program.
Is there anyone here who lives in the Raleigh area and who can give us a rundown on the program?

This is such great news. Thank you, God.

I don't think that most people think that way. Especially in this day and age, there are numerous places where one can get tattooed or pierced without risk of infection.

I actually haven't listened to the 911 call. I imagine it's on this thread here somewhere. I'll have to look for it and let you know what I think when I hear it.

While reporting another case, NC Wanted ran both the television program and the entire unedited interview of the husband of the victim at their web site. Below is the site. After the program about Jenna airs, we may be able to fish around there to find the video. Here's the current information they have about Jenna's case:

I hope LE will look at Jenna's case as a possible victim of GM Hilton. Neck slashed, top missing, possible sexual attack or attempted sexual attack.
Lived in NC, was in an alleyway behind a convenience store in an area which has a large transient population, according to LE.

I already added her as a possible victim of Hilton's! It will at least give us a chance to go over her case again with fresh eyes.

Thank you so much for doing this!!:blowkiss:
You had already added Jenna!!
I'm having major problems with the forum today. Please forgive me for not seeing her added. Posts and threads are not showing up right, and sometimes I can't post at all. Guess they are still working on the server issues.
