WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department is asking for help locating a missing woman.

Karen Molta was last known to be in the 500 block of Mill Creek Court on Friday.

A family member says Molta was on the phone with them when the phone disconnected. No one has heard from her since.

31-year-old Molta is described as 5′ 6″ tall, with green eyes and brown hair. She was last known to be wearing a grey long sleeve shirt and black pants.

If you see her, you should dial 911. Anyone with information can call 910-343-3600.

"The 500 block of Mill Creek Ct" looks to be in an apartment community (Mill Creek Apartments). Hopefully there are some cameras there:

Edited to add: I wondered if someone might have carjacked her and started to check the crime statistics for that area, but will ask that someone better versed in that to please take a look. I did see someone with a gun was arrested there just last month:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department recently made several arrests and seized several guns during different incidents.

The first incident took place after 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday. WPD officers were dispatched to the Mill Creek Apartments in the 500 block of Mill Creek Court for a report about suspicious subjects in the area armed with a gun. When officers arrived, they say they observed the people in question.

The long sleeve shirt in the Carolinas during August sounds like she may have been dressed up. Does her job require biz attire?

On the phone and then nothing? That's not good. First thought is Dru Sjodin, who was on the phone with her boyfriend, walking through a parking lot, then nothing. Her body was found months later.

Seems like someone grabbed Karen mid-sentence. I hope there's CCTV of the parking lot and nearby roads to provide answers.

I live in NC and wear long sleeves in Summer because North Cackalackans love their air condition. Stores, work, restaurants and home. Bring a sweater.
I have not seen her car in local or State news but I may have missed it.

It's a good question. Does she have a car and is it missing? She seems like a creative artist with a connection to early childhood education. Is her last location her home address?

was she driving or walking while on the phone with them?

We need a lot more information to understand what happened. Perhaps there is already some understanding of what happened. If it was viewed as a random event, disappearing in broad daylight while talking on the phone, I hope more information would be provided.

I linked the name Dru Sjodin upthread. She was talking on the phone to her boyfriend and the conversation abruptly ended. She was in a mall parking lot, a knife sheath was found on the ground, she worked at the mall.

This seems different in that we don't know whether she was at home or in the parking lot, whether she lived there or was visiting, whether she has a car and whether it is at the same location as her last phone call.

I work here in Wilmington NC. People were passing out missing person flyers on Sat for her. I've been really following this, but there is not a lot of information. The area she lived was near the UNCW campus. I hope she is found.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - A woman’s body was found around noon Tuesday near a retention pond off Jennings Dr. off Randall Parkway.

A Wilmington police spokesperson says they are waiting on a positive identification but they are investigating the possibility it could be a woman who has been missing for several days.

That's nearby. Hopefully cause of death can be determined.

When you look on the map it looks like the retention pond mentioned is fed by a creek behind the apartments. I wonder if somehow she fell in? The article says “near”, not in, though.

Waiting to hear if this might be her. Hoping it was an accident and not some foul play.

Same here but her age and size makes me think and worry that she didn’t just die. It’s not impossible I know but this just seems suspicious to me.

It’s a long stretch but Wilmington is on the East Coast and a reasonable driving distance to Maryland and a female victim found there in a wooded area. Just a possibility.

Wondering why LE left the last name "Rumie" off their ID of her, given that it's all over her (artists) page --
