Attractive young woman... Hoping she is safe.

Hmmm, the area of Tradd Ct. looks like suites of offices rather than a residential area. Perhaps she works in one of those offices. I would think that there would be people going in and out of the buildings there. Maybe someone saw something.
There could be residential areas, too, but I didn't see any from my quick glance of Tradd Ct. Dunno.

William Haven Hicks, 26, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and kidnapping in connection to the disappearance of 27-year-old KC Johnson.

Investigators say Johnson was killed the night of her disappearance, on the 1300 block of King St, according to the release. Police believe Johnson and Hicks met recently on social media prior to her death.

Hicks, a South Carolina resident, is being held at the Myrtle Beach Police Department with no bond.

Well, just dammit. At least someone is in custody. <sigh>. Did she have family in the area?
Good work on the part of LE -- they must have had some type of lead for them to make an arrest. Hoping for more details, but not betting on it -- yet. Just SMH.
Apparently he is from SC, but I looked to see if he has a record in NC, and he does not. Yet.

“He killed my baby,” said Bulla Brodzinski, KC Johnson’s partner. “I don’t know who this guy is but I hope they give him the most maximum punishment possible.”

Wednesday marks five days since Brodsinzki last saw Johnson. William Hicks, who Brodzinski has never met, is charged with her murder.

From the article:

He was pissed off at her for some reason and he said he was going to teach her a lesson or something,” said Brodzinski.

How senseless!

My heart goes out to her family and loved ones. May she rest in peace.

"KC Johnson's mother said her transgender child was the most caring, loving, and giving person she'd ever known.

"You want to laugh, KC was the person to make that happen," Dawn Buchanan stated in a Facebook post about Johnson. "You want an in-depth conversation, KC was your go to."

According to the Wilmington Police Department, Johnson was killed in the 1300 block of King Street on Friday. The 27-year-old was last seen in the 1900 block of Tradd Court and reported missing the following day."

Much more at link. Now that it is in MSM that KC is trans, I can say that I'm very worried that this was a hate crime.

WPD Lt. Leslie Irving told Port City Daily the investigation is ongoing and more charges have yet to be filed.

“There is no evidence at this time of a hate crime,” she wrote.

The police department has an arrest warrant out for William Haven Hicks for first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and kidnapping in connection to Johnson. They have yet to reveal how she died or the motive behind it, and are awaiting results from an autopsy report.

As of Wednesday, WPD was coordinating with Chatham County in Georgia after discovering remains located near a sugar refinery. They washed up on a rocky edge of the Savannah River.

A little less than 100 people from the LGBTQ community — including allies from UNCW, the city and county, representatives from the district attorney’s office, and former Senate candidate Marcia Morgan — gathered on the front steps of City Hall Friday evening. Flowers, pride flags and tea lights were passed around.

“So many of you are chosen family that saw Casey for everything that she was,” pastor Kelly Finch of Mosaic UMC said to the group. “And we’re all grateful that you gave her the opportunity to be who she was. She did not deserve this. This was hate coming in a vicious form. She deserved so much more.”

[...]

... The 26-year-old’s South Carolina criminal record is lengthy, with offenses dating back to 2018. Hicks was charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor counts, including torturing animals, assault and battery, and burglary.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (TCD) -- Human remains recovered in late January were recently identified as those of a missing woman who was allegedly killed by a man she met online.

KC Johnson, a transgender woman, was last seen on Friday, Jan. 13, on the 1300 block of Tradd Court in Wilmington, and was reported missing the next day. The victim’s partner, Bulla Brodzinski, was allegedly the last person who saw her alive.

Several days later, officials with the Wilmington Police Department concluded that Johnson was slain on the 1300 block of King Street the day she went missing.

Police in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, arrested William Haven Hicks on Jan. 18 on charges of first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and kidnapping. Johnson reportedly met Hicks on social media prior to her death.

According to a recent news release from the Wilmington Police Department, officials discovered human remains Jan. 18, and on April 3, they were positively identified as Johnson’s.

In a statement, police said, "Our condolences go out to Johnson’s family during this difficult time."

Wilmington Police said the investigation into her death remains ongoing.
