Bennett was last seen wearing a blue tank top with white stripes and an orange long-sleeved shirt over the tank top, blue jean shorts and black Nike tennis shoes. This is just a few miles from my town. I know the road well. It is fairly busy as it is a cut through between 2 of the main local roads, (Hwy 24 and Hwy 70). It has homes, a couple of churches, an animal shelter, a solid waste facility, and also a large heavily wooded section.
Strangely, there has been very little local publicity about this case except for the Sheriff’s poster on their FB page and a brief blurb on the local news.

Her dad CB and best friend CLH are beside themselves with worry and post updates on FB. One important bit is Kristen was spotted around 5:30 in the morning walking down 24 heading towards Newport. Why?

There is not much else I can find on Kristen - I wonder if she suffers from depression or is in a troubled relationship? She has a young child - nothing shady standing out but I'd like to see baby-daddy cleared.

Here is her facebook: Kristen Ashley

The home she disappeared from is reportedly her home (not sure if she shares it with anyone): https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/950-Hibbs-Rd-Newport-NC-28570/102090700_zpid/
She has a car, which is parked in the driveway. Her phone is off.

From FB, other family includes:
CLB brother
TRB brother
TYB brother
JB sister
She works or worked at a Dollar General in the area
She went missing about 2:00 on Tuesday afternoon. The alleged sighting was Wednesday or Thursday morning. Father said it was a good ID, but person didn’t know Kristen. I wonder if it was based on clothing?

She has a car that she didn’t take—that’s interesting. I’m sure her family and best friend have thought of this, but is there anyone she knew that lived within walking distance?

I’m always leery of these alleged sightings. IIRC, several folks, including a friend, claimed to have seen Hailey Dunn after she disappeared. And all were later debunked.

Looks like some friends and family were coming to town yesterday to search for her. I hope they find her.

Just checked and couldn’t find an Instagram account, which would probably be more up to date than her FB.

I agree- what would make her leave in the afternoon and then be walking down a busy road a day or two later? People with their wits who are in trouble will call a friend or relative for help in the case of something like not having a ride, being stranded, or no cell power, not to mention her house and likely the homes of friends/family are within 1 hour walk of town.
So why would she leave on foot?
- walking a pet (if so is it missing too?)
- to go to one of the nearby churches?
- recreational?
- intoxicated?
- fight? (why didn't she take the car? maybe he took her keys)
- she never actually left

I am suspicious about the alleged sightings, too.
Was someone home when she went for a walk?
Who knew what she was wearing?
Friends and family can find no one that she has been in contact with.
If police believe the sighting report and she was alone, they probably consider her as voluntarily missing.

Good point—how do they know what she was wearing?

I’d like to know if she lived alone or not. Judging from the interior pictures of the house when it sold last year, it seems pretty nice for a young woman who works in retail to be renting alone at that age.

Wow there is zero information on Kristen. Did she live alone? Husband or boyfriend? Where is her child? Who had him when she went missing? Is there a drug history? Has she ever left before?

According to dad’s FB, the last phone ping was 1:15 that day, probably before she walked out the door. Would a phone ping if she got messages after that?

And does it make a difference with pings if it’s a pay as you go phone?

You bring up a good point with the pay as you go - these days I think it is more likely she has a decent phone with wifi capabilities and simply has a pre-paid sim card, so if she ran out of money she could still have it turned on and use it for everything else but calls. It still "pings"if it is on (other than burner phones, as far as I know the pay as you go sim cards are technically the same as an always-on one, the difference is purely account/payment related.)

The detailed clothing description tells me someone saw her in order to know the time she left, either whoever she shares the house with (I doubt very much she lives in a 3br alone) or via a camera.

The original Sheriff's office post said to check her welfare if she is seen - I think she left her house after a fight or may be fighting mental distress. If they are concerned for her welfare, why isn't she listed as endangered missing?

I was just thinking the same thing. It would be great to get a little more info on Kristen.
I'm only a couple of miles away from Kristen and have had many interactions with her at Dollar General. She's a sweet girl and I just pray that she is found safe and soon.
Hibbs Rd, as OldCop mentioned, is a pretty busy road and I'm surprised that no one has come forward with any information about seeing her. This area (Hibbs Rd, Gales Creek, Broad Creek) is a small and pretty tightly woven community where it seems like everyone knows everyone and their business. How does no one know anything about where she could be or who she may have been with?
I read that her dad, CB, said that there may have been a sighting of her walking on Hwy 24 heading toward Newport but I'm not sure where on the highway she was seen and if it was indeed a valid sighting. I wish we had a little more info on that sighting, it would help all of us that are trying to keep an eye out for her.

Can you think of any reason someone would walk down 24 into Newport rather than use one of the street routes? It seems dangerous with only a narrow shoulder and a ditch without railing.

It isn't unusual to see someone walking on Hwy 24. The shoulder isn't as narrow as it may seem as it's a 4 lane highway. Hibbs road on the other hand is a 2 lane road that has a very narrow shoulder and ditches. I have seen people walking on Hibbs although not often. There really aren't any side roads that would be safer to walk to Newport from 24. Hibbs Rd and Nine Mile Rd are the closest roads to Newport from 24 but you have to cross or 70 to get into the town of Newport. Hibbs is a commonly driven road by people trying to get from 70 to 24 and vise versa.

CB seems to think that some people know what happened to Kristen or are withholding information about who she is with. Seems as if they are trying to track down a person who goes by the nickname of Rhino. This name was mentioned very early on and has popped up again. Reading between the lines Kristen may have met this person at a bar in the Morehead City area, Jack’s Waterfront Bar.

CB has said that Kristen’s boyfriend has been with him all along and appears not to suspect that he has anything to do with the disappearance.

I’m wondering now if she got in an argument with the bf or whoever was with her at the house last Tuesday and she stormed out and disappeared from there. Still not sure who provided the info on what she was wearing. Whoever did, it seems like that was the last person who saw her. If she ran off to be with this guy Rhino, it seems like she would have told a friend. May be she met up with him that day and things didn’t go as planned.

I did read the Holly Springs/Holly Ridge thing as well, but you're right neither is on 24. Holly Ridge is south of us, between Jacksonville and Wilmington and is along Hwy 17. I'm not aware of any area around here that is known as Holly Springs.

Geez, these people need actual help, not opportunists. I did see the awful posts made by one girl in paticular, just horrible. I wish that there was a Find Kristen page. I hate going to their personal FB pages to see if there are any updates
Someone messaged Kristen’s sister and said they had video of her being abducted by several guys in a car. Whoever it was wanted money to release the video.

Ugh the scammers that try to prey on these families. It’s sickening!

A witness, KH, says he told her father that he saw Kristen walking that afternoon on Hibbs Rd towards Hwy 70.
