From the article above:
Hayes gave a letter to a Wake County judge today saying his court-appointed lawyer hasn't done what he's asked and wants "a black attorney from Durham." Hayes fired his original attorney earlier this year.

Well, I'm sure there is a Durham County defense attorney who is not busy these days, what with the recent changes in the Durham County DA's office, and cases getting jammed up. :waitasec: ... ... :sheesh:
Cases in both Wake and Durham Counties have long delays between when murder charges are brought and when the case gets an actual court date -- and for the same reasons: The DA prosecutors are up to their necks in cases; the judges are juggling schedules the best they can -- these trials have to be scheduled well in advance so that 1) ADA's, 2) defensive teams (private practice or the county's Office of the Public Defender), 3) courtrooms, & 4) judges' schedules -- can all be coordinated. To add to the craziness, some trials are expected to run 2--6 weeks or more -- so it's quite a dance to put dates on those type trials.
I don't see Wake County "borrowing" a Durham County Public Defender, but perhaps this is done -- I have no idea. I've never seen it, but I certainly haven't seen everything that a murder courtroom can undergo...
This will be interesting to follow...
