During Grant's trial I remember Sha testifying that Amanda and herself were allergic to bleach and caused them headaches. Anyone else remember that? I don't think it was told in this trial.

Sha testified that they got migraines from bleach.

Oh my.

Does anyone have any insight on how this works? I mean, does anyone know what SOP is for court transcribers? Yes, I understand the woman taking the transcript is in the courtroom during the day & doesn't work over....but is there not someone else who takes what's typed during the day during court & type it out for the court records? Like a medical transcriptionist. S/he takes what the doc says & types it out for the records....we don't have someone like that in the court system?

They don't do dailies unless one of the parties requests it (and pays for it) But there should be a CD of the audio. That's pretty standard now. But maybe come courts haven't been updated yet, idk.

Yeah, they should have paid more attention when watching Dexter though.
Totally ignored Harry's Code :snooty:
Yes, Nymeria, so true! They ignored Harry's Code.....by a LOT! In fact, I believe Dexter would have caught these two and pulled a Dexter on them!!:banghead:

Each court reporter is responsible for transcribing their own steno notes into a transcript that can become part of the official transcript of the trial. They type in a special "steno code" (like another language) using the steno machine or steno mask. The code gets entered into a software program on their laptop at the time of the steno, but the stenographer still has to manually "scope" (that's the official term) the text and code to make sure everything is accurate, fix errors, check against the voice recording they took, etc. It's a very tedious process that takes many hours as they have to go word for word. They have to do it at night or on their weekends as most working reporters are busy during the day. Some court reporters (independent ones) will employ specialty scopists to do that part of the process for them, but I don't know if that's ever done by those who work for the state. In the end it is the court reporter who is legally obligated to produce an accurate transcript.

No, video is not considered official court record, neither is an audio recording. Only the court reporter's transcript is considered official, upon their signature.

What's Harry's Code? Gave never seen Dexter, tho have heard about it. Does he do like Joe Carroll did Sunday in The Following? (Btw, that "love scene" took things too far, IMO, and I'm pretty resilient in handling graphic stuff.)

I missed shay's testimony in this trial, but did see it in Grants. She seemed to feel that the piece of furniture was left to both of them. Why would Amanda give it to her sister if she didn't want Grant to sell it? Why not give it to Shay?

Very good point but the reason Grant and Amanda gave the heirloom to Karen was to cover needing a U-Haul to transport Laura and the coolers 1,200 miles to Texas to dispose of her body.

They did take notes. This jury was very very engaged and very attentive, taking notes, staring at the defendant when she testified. Several we're leaning far forward in their chairs, singularly focused. I thought one of them might topple over for leaning so far forward.

But it does feel like their attention to detail is a PITA. But that's probably because I'm positive in my own mind that she's guilty of M1.

Boods did you attend a day of trial?

I wonder if they will go ahead and go through with the Sha testimony request?

Court reporters transcribe their own notes. They are paid for this over and above their salary. That's where court reporters make most of their money. Wish the video could be used and I don't see why not!

The video can't be used unless it's taken by a licensed court reporter/videographer.

I hope so. I want all their issues addressed. Would hate to wonder "what if they would have heard her testimony?" after the verdict.

No, Dex is not like Joe Carroll.
Dexter only killed people who DESERVED it. Murderers, Child Molesters, Drunk Drivers who killed people, other serial killers, etc.

His dad was a cop who discovered when he was young that he was going to be a serial killer (the thrill) and taught him to curb it and use it for good.
He gave him rules to follow, aka the code.

http://dexter.wikia.com/wiki/The_Code_of_Harry

PS- That is why people love Dexter so much, he was a killer BUT he took out the ones who were deserving.

ETA-
1st Rule of the Code : Never get caught
2nd Rule of the Code : Never kill an Innocent
There are other rules like:

Never make a scene.
Fake emotion and normality to fit in.
When taking a psychology personality test, always answer the question with the opposite of what you feel.
Never get emotionally involved.

Yes, and that piece was Amanda's. Why wouldn't she question Grant saying, let's take it to Texas? Ugh. It is just one thing after another after another...come on jury!!
Also, who takes a practically cross-country journey to visit relatives who you haven't seen in a while, stay there ONLY a couple of days, and drive back!!! Especially with a one-month old baby??!!
With a Uhaul and a furniture piece which has no reason to go to Texas.

I wonder if Grant isn't wishing he had this Jury......
I just don't know what they could be hung on.
I am not saying it should be a slam dunk, but it's pretty obvious what happened that nite.
What is tripping them up?

lunch time!

Jury is ready for lunch. They have decided they do not need the testimony for now.
