As of yesterday, Leland Jane Doe has been unidentified for 42 years.

3 weeks PMI with remains located on December 8 would go back to just around the Thanksgiving holiday, November 22 of 1979. With the isotope analysis and other info, perhaps she was making her way through or coming to NC for the holidays. I believe the recon makes her appear to be on the high end of the age range, but concur that her specific dental info relative to wisdom teeth would most likely put her on the low end of the age range. I thought ME/Coroner's were also able to look at the skull sutures to assist in guestimating age, but perhaps there was some issue or anomaly with this type of examination.

That the wisdom teeth hadn't erupted is not always a sign that a person is in the low end of an age range, for example I'm 60+, and my mandibular wisdow teeth hasn't erupted yet. Not all wisdom teeth erupt, as in about 8 out of 10 people, at least one tooth doesn't erupt.

What Are Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom teeth are the last ones to grow in, usually between ages 17 and 25. While our ancestors needed them, most of us now no longer do.

In post #1 it's mentioned that a forensic anthropologist had estimated the Jane Doe's age to between 42 and 55, so I would guess that the skull sutures had been examined.
