Fifteen years have passed since any of Lillian Lawren Nances loved ones have seen her, but that doesnt dampen her mothers confidence that somewhere, somehow shes still alive.
Nance was 32 when she went missing June 20, 2001. She was last seen leaving her mothers old residence on the 1200 block of Sunshine Street in Gastonia.
Everlene Nances hunt for her daughter has taken her across the city and as far south as Georgia. Four presidential elections and a decade and a half later, there are still few answers to the womans disappearance.
Markeveus accepts that his mother wasnt a perfect person. He lived with his grandmother. His mom had problems with the law, once spending nearly three years in prison for child abuse, drug possession and assault inflicting serious injury.
Still, Markeveus says his mother tried her best as a single parent, and one of her requests helped drive him. Even after transferring from Hunter Huss High School and taking up football, he just didnt want to go to class some days.
Markeveus finished high school in part because its what his mother wanted. Hes since had three children.
Lillian Nances missing person poster describes the woman as a black female 5-foot-4 inches tall, 130 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. It also lists an 8-inch scar extending from her left shoulder blade to her left arm, marks her family says are the fault of an abusive boyfriend.
Everlene didnt trust him, and when Lillian went missing she wondered if he could be at fault.
