Before I move if you true blue followers would like I can go take photos of where the house was on Bragg (i live on the base within walking distance) and the hospital etc ( i see these spots daily)
Let me know.............

BTW,had a interesting talk with a very lovely local who had some great ancedotes about life on Bragg and in Fayetteville after MacDonald killed his family. She was a bit of a hippie herself then and described the unfortunate harrassment of any and all "hippie types" here in the area due to Jeffy's story.

We did the same thing last year - LesleeGP and I (and our families) took a trip to Ft. Bragg and drove down Castle Dr. and took pictures. Was a strange feeling knowing what took place there.

My hubby was an Army Brat and they were stationed there for quite a few years while he was growing up. They moved there about 6 months after the murders happened.

Good grief - I can see why you were his only friend! What exactly did you see in him?! Sounds like a friendship based on pity..
It wasn't all that bad all the time. We argued a lot, and no longer talk anymore. I knew he (Rick Jackson) had weaknesses he couldn't help (dating only prisoners). He was interesting to talk to, that's all.
Think about it...she's married to a famous doctor who adores and needs her, who will never cheat on her, who hangs on her every word and who makes her out to be a sympathetic character to the rest of the world. The fact that they can never be together is a small price to pay. In her heart of hearts, she knows he's guilty...she just doesn't care. This marriage is all about her...
She's definitely a Rescuer type!!

Yep. I suspect you're right - I bet she did have a crush on him (big one - she actually attended his trial) ...until she found out how sicko he is.
Are you sure? Christina M. went to his trial? You aren't mixing her up with Melinda Stephens who wrote "I Accuse," are you?

That's too far for me to go, but I am going to take a drive by his condo in Huntington Harbour. I lived a few blocks away from him back then without realizing it in the 1970's. I could have walked over and said 'hi.'

I think it would be real creepy to cruise by the Ramsey house in Boulder. Which I might get to do in August.

Yeah, it was a bit creepy - even after all this time. I took pictures of the houses and the street sign.

An interesting aside........Castle Drive here on Bragg is home to our registered sex offender (I have threads about my campaign to ban sex offenders from living on military bases/federal property) ..............something about that street I guess!!!!

Anyone if you want pics I can put them up!

Cami, do you think that if I wrote to Mac claiming to be a supporter (and used a friend's name and address because Kathryn knows differently), that I could get an autographed old photo out of him? Do you know anybody that's done it? He's not gonna live forever and he looks older than he is now.

LOl, go ahead and try. I bet you you could. Stroke his ego he'll be mailing you one post haste. I bet he still thinks he's a ladies man.

Yes, Kali, Christina attended the trial. Her book is Scales of Justice.

I strongly doubt that Melinda Stephens attended the trial did she?

Thanks Cami - I was going to say it looked basically the same other than the trees were huge. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Colette actually had a compound fracture to her arm...the bone broke through her skin. I can't even imagine how grizzly that must have been to see her body...

Both arms were broken, and the bone in one arm was broken twice.

Have you seen the photos? They are on christina's site. I really can't bear to look at them but you can see the bone protruding.

That's why I always point out colette's injuries on the Darlie forum. No way Darlie got those bruises on one arm by fighting with an intruder or anyone. No broken bones to her arm, no facial or head injuries, no weapon pattern. If someone was in a rage enough to inflict that damage on those two boys, they would not have stopped with Darlie.

Hey Jules. Those photos are on Christina's website. There's also letters from people who have visited the apt at Ft. Bragg just as you have. It must have been totally eerie was it? I was reading one email from a lady who said she stood there feeling the pain and horror of what happened there.

I read the book years ago and only recently started reading this thread. Does anyone happen to have the website address for Christina's site, as referred to above?

I'd greatly appreciate it! - Lisa

Cami ~ Eerie is a good way to describe it. Just driving down the street and envisioning things as they were many years ago - MP's running around, officers, etc. was a very eerie feeling. I had chills the entire length of the street. Knowing something so brutal took place there was very creepy.

When my hubby lived there (they were actually on the other side of Ft. Bragg - about a 15 minute drive from Castle), he said there was still much activity for quite some time. I had to laugh though (his family thinks my "true crime obsession" in nuts) - in all the time they lived there, they had never driven over there to check it out and here we drove from Houston (by way of Walt Disney World in Florida) to check it out.

Jules

Oh, I'm sure his ego is still alive and well! I'm just wondering if he has the money to send photos to his "fans." Not that I'll ever give him a dime, or even an SASE! I will try and let you know what happens. :-)

I'm sorry, I have not bought Christina's book yet. I was just shocked to hear she knew him for decades. About Melinda, I was thinking of those photos in her book where she flew back east and met with so many people from the defense team. It must have been about her newsletter. So you're right, I don't think Melinda came along early enough to attend the trial. If Christina did attend the trial, did she only write those 3 or 4 letters to Mac many, many years afterward? I guess I need to buy her book - along with hundreds of other books I need to buy. :-)

Hi Jules ~ yes I know exactly how you feel. I'm searching for a list of reasons that I can defend myself with, because I can't stand it when people claim it's "morbid curiosity" or judge us, saying it's "morbid" anything. That just sounds so negative. I think it's due to an inborn inquisitiveness, and a fascination with mysteries! They have some free psychological tests on a site called Tickle, and everytime I take one of them, like the inkblots or whatever, it says I'm driven by curiosity.

What could be more satisfying than solving a mystery? What the author, Suzanne O'Malley accomplished when she won the Edgar Allen Poe award for writing that book about Andrea Yates (Are You Alone?) and consequently uncovered facts that got the conviction overturned, just blew me away!

[ETA: What do you think sparked the murders? I read on one of the websites that a neighbor heard Collette say that '...she wouldn't stand by and let him harm the children or her...' Do you think, due to possible amphetamine consumption, that he became enraged when he came to bed and it was wet by one of the children. Do you think that he threatened to spank the children for wetting the bed and this started a fight? Which child actually wet the bed that night? I read on one of the sites that he said it was Kristen. Yet, Kristen's pants were not very wet. Perhaps, he was lying because Kimberly got hit in the crossfire while he was killing Colette. (I hope that I am not confusing the facts here
Actually the good Dr. said it was Kristie who wet the bed, but it's been proven to be Kimmie. He must have had a reason for this lie possibly to cover up that Kimmie was in their bed. One theory is that Kmmie came into their bed, wet it and Collette got up and went to the sofa. She had said to a friend from class that Kimmie was doing that alot recently and was asking for advice. Then perhaps Collette heard some noises from the bedroom and maybe found Dr. Mac molesting Kimmie. That would certainly account for the vicious fight which broke out.Saying Kristie wet the bed put Kimmie in her own bedroom at the time which he thought would help his story. He didnt want her to be in the room at all because I believe she got caught in the cross fire as you said These murders were not premeditated at all. Most likely Collette freaked out, with good reason, and threatened to tell on him. So think about that, a Green Beret Dr accused of something like that? He knew his career would be over. I dont even think at this point, he planned to kill anybody, just beat Collette into submissiveness. Collette may have even struck the 1st blow. There was a lot of Kimmie's blood in the bedroom doorway. The theory is that he was swinging the 2x4 at Collette and on the back swing hit Kimmie hard enough to kill her. There was no stopping him then. No turning back in his mind. A magazine article found in the living room was about the Tate/La Bianca murders. This was only about 5 months later. He quickly decided to blame it on hippies. Even going so far as to write PIG on the headboard in Collette's blood. There was a large hippie enclave in Fayetteville at the time. He claims he was attacked by 3 people and at the same time he could hear Collette screaming "Jeff, Jeff, why are they doing this to me?" and Kimmie screaming "Daddy". Is he saying there were more than 3 people in that duplex apartment that night? Pretty crowded. He thought using different weapons would make it look like there was more than 1 killer, but it only showed the overkill of his wife and children compared to his boo-boo's :boohoo:
Then poor Kristie was killed because his story wouldn't work if she weren't attacked. Of course it doesn't anyway, but at the time he thought it would. He only mentions Collette and Kimmie screaming things. Probably because they really did say those things, just change Collette's words to "Jeff, Jeff, why are YOU doing this to me?"
