This article says eastern European Roma women often drop out of school at age 10.

Florina dropped out of education when she was 10 – the average age at which Roma girls leave school. Illiterate and unskilled, any job she does secure is likely to be for minimal pay.

Studies into the status of Roma women in eastern Europe suggest that Florina is not alone. While the educational divide between Roma and non-Roma populations is stark, within the community, it is women who fare worst.

Diana finds out that life with an older man isn’t what she had hoped it would be. Does she have other relatives here? Could she have sent her daughter away to have a more traditional life? For some gypsies, 10 or 11 is the age where girls leave school, to learn more traditional roles.

I cannot come up with a single scenario where the parent/step-parent would not immediately report their 11 year old child missing. I could however, probably put together a pretty long list of parents who did NOT report their child missing, because they were the ones who disappeared that child. I have zero doubt LE are looking at these parents the same way we all are.

Yes. In this case, parents may have thought they could get away with not reporting her missing while they made coverup plans. I don't think they considered the school would become involved when daughter didn't show up for three weeks. I'm guessing school has a protocol in place for contacting authorities when a child is no-show for a certain period of time.. my opinion.

Interesting article! But if they sent her off to live with another relative, why report her missing? They could have pulled her out of school and sent her away. MOO

Did they sell her? </3

But then why not pull her out of school? Or respond right away at the school’s first contact (speculating they were contacted *a lot*) that she moved somewhere to live with an aunt or something? I wish I could find a scenario where she might still be alive and could be rescued, but I just can’t. MOO, of course.

IME as a former guidance counselor, the school must have a policy adopted by the board that specifies all of the steps involved when there is an unexcused prolonged absence. Emails, phone calls, letters, certified letters, home visit, etc.

I can't find any link that claims Madalina's mother is Roma/Romani. Can someone provide one?

Although i don’t think this will be what happened, i like your approach & info!!

My reason for thinking this isn’t what happened: i think mom wouldn’t let herself get arrested over it.

It's her surname...Romanian/Moldavian.

What i hope happened, seeing the potential old black eye on D., is a scary situation where mom hid her from (abusive?) step dad and waited until getting arrested (being safe) to bring her out. I highly doubt it but a girl can wish…

Agreed ! ^^^

"Cojocari" upon searching the surname is of Romanian/Moldavian descent ?

Romanian isn't the same as Roma. It's an important distinction. DC might be Roma but nothing currently in msm backs that up.

5. Does Roma mean Romanian?

The word “Roma / Romani” means “man/people,” and it is used as an ethnonym (the name applied to a given ethnic group). The feminine form is “Romni,” and they speak the Romany language.

Indeed, the word Romani sounds like the word Romanian, but this is just a coincidence. So no, Roma does not mean Romanian. It is quite a common mistake.

Roma or Romani represent the ethnic group that started the migration from India more than 1000 years ago. The Romanians are another ethnic group, the majority inhabitant of today’s Romanian territories and successors of the Ancient Dacians and Romans.

IF Madalina was sold (I hope not !!!), or given to a non-custodial relative -- she is possibly alive and can be rescued.
My mind doesn't think so .... and I'm sorry for having dark worries.
It doesn't seem likely .
Poor girl ! :(

"Madalina Cojocari was last seen at home in Cornelius, North Carolina, on the evening of November 23, 2022, and has not been seen since. She was reported missing to her school on December 15, 2022."

Who saw her last ?
If it was in the evening, was it a friend or someone outside of family ?
The stepfather and mom both look (In their mug shots) like they've been caught out, and not at all worried for Madalina.
I realize this is after the fact....

Roma or Romani are a small ethnic minority in Romania and Moldova.

I just Googled to get the percentages. The Roma population in Romania is about 8% and in Moldova it is 3%.

And here we go again. The parents waited 24 days to report her missing, when they do, they report to the school officer and not the police station. Why go to the school when she was last seen at home? Why aren't they giving the area/address of where she was last seen? She went missing the day before Thanksgiving and now reporting her missing to a school who goes on winter break 12/20. My head is spinning and hinky meter is up! IMO
Yeah, friend, IMO, case closed.

It's just about collecting the evidence now

Gotta love how he was illegally selling copyright protected artwork. US military logos & the Boy Scouts logos. Classy.
Military logos are not copyrighted. US Government materials are in the public domain

The Romani are considered a diaspora. They are all over the world with 1M+ in the U.S., Turkey and Spain. Many in Russia and Eastern and Western Europe. They are called the Kale in Finland and Wales and other names in other places. The phrases gypsies has often been associated with them, which is the word you'll read in US history books about the Nazi Germans systematic slaughter of the Romani in Workd War II. The ones who were left in Europe were treated poorly.

But ... where are we getting that they are Romani?

It’s in our local news - 3 stations are reporting for sure, one of which was at the house last night when the yard was searched, a community publication has reported it. Some of the most recent articles are:

WCCB - written 12/16/2022 and updated 12/17/2022
* This article has a video of the search last night

WCNC - written 12/17/2022

WBTV - written 12/17/2022

Cornelius Today - written 12/17/2022
Well, at least her disappearance is now getting some press attention. I can not think of any innocent reason for her being missing and not reported such for nearly a month. To me, that fact alone bodes ill for any happy ending. :-(
