GUILTY NC - Maggie Daniels, 31, murdered in her Newton apartment, 27 June 2014

 • #81
Also, Addie Shuford stated Maggie was suppose to meet her at Geppetos. An Italian local restaurant. That would have been Friday evening. After no response to calls, texts, etc Addie went to check on her the next morning and found door unlocked and Maggie dead. So, how would the black male 911 caller know how long she had been 'laying on the floor'

Have they identified the race or gender of the caller?

This link http://www.wcnc.com/news/local/Newton-Police-conduct-death-investigation-265054121.html says Addie and her daughter found Maggie so perhaps it was one of them that made the call.

What female likes to leave their door unlocked? I don't care where you live. She also liked to suntan on her porch per neighbors. Be interesting to see if autopsy mentions drugs. Saw her FB page. She seems obsessed with posting selfies of her face. Girls don't understand posting all of these pics of yourself can attract strange men.

No. Just...... no.

The woman who went shopping with Maggie on her last evening seen talks off camera. She is not considered a suspect. She says that she had "been a mentor and close friend" to Daniels.

The woman told NBC Charlotte Reporter Rad Berky that when they finished shopping they returned to the woman's home not far from when Daniels lived. She said she was planning a trip out of town and Daniels was to take care of her dogs. She says she was aware of the text warning Daniels to be careful of a neighbor but the woman said that tenant had moved out well before Daniels was killed.

Is the lady that found her dead the same lady she went to Walmart with?

In checking in on this sad case, I'm once again impressed by the posters who do a great job of pulling every inch of information they can from cases, sometimes ones w/very scant information, like this one. I thought I was an enthusiastic, dogged researcher, but some folks here make me look lazy!

In defense of this beautiful young lady, where I grew up in Arkansas my family never locked their doors but times have changed. I think maybe she knew everyone in the complex, & the resident she was alarmed by was been long gone supposedly. She probably felt safe in this tiny low-crime town. That's probably why she felt fine to sunbathe on the porch, too. I did that many times in college: I had not pool & didn't want to pay for tanning salons.

Drugs never crossed my mind. I assumed the broken mirror was a large one that indicated a struggle. She looks very healthy & happy in her photos, no signs of any heavy drug use. She's well dressed & well-kempt. None of almost 1,000 facebook friends look like drug abusing criminals. It sounds naive maybe, but you can get a feel for someone by their social media posts, pics, friends..I just don't see heavy drugs at all!

Someone mentioned she was obsessed w/posting selfies on social media & that's dangerous. Most of her fb profile pics, w/a few exceptions, were about a month apart. Posting selfies is just what this generation does. Anyone, especially a beautiful woman like her, can attract stalkers from anywhere, even at Wal-mart or work, but she has to shop, go to work & go out in the world!

She seems like a trusting, beautiful young woman w/many friends & a noble career, who crossed paths w/the wrong person, IMO. Just my opinion only, not facts!

I have nothing yet to add sleuth wise YET! I am confused as to whether the SBI & FBI are on the case, or just the SBI?

That's my feeling.. they both used the wording of "mentor" and had been long time friends. She is not considered a suspect.

I wouldn't rule out anyone... I hope she was questioned a lot. She was the last one who saw her and she also had plans with her that Friday night....if that was me and I had plans with a close friend and she was no where to be found I would have contacted LE a lot sooner than she did . also did they have any mutual friends? Did she contact anyone to ask of they had seen Maggie? Knock on a neighbors door or the super of the complex? Just a little suspicious to me...

This is such a tragedy.

I wonder if her door had a peep hole?

She seems very trusting so even if her door was locked she might have opened it anyway.

I listened to the 911 call and it appears to me that the caller was outside with some people who probably went into the apartment with him. You can hear them talking in the background. I think they asked him something and while he was on with 911, he answered them "i didn't touch it".

I also think they cut out the 911 call because you would ALWAYS get the persons name and number. Always. The 911 call was then transferred the caller to medical control for a ambulance.

I don't believe the friend who found Maggie dead was the same woman she went shopping with earlier. We don't really know who saw Maggie last. LE is trying to establish a timeline. I wonder if the reason the 911 caller thought she'd been there a while is because rigor mortis had set in and so it was obvious she wasn't OK; but, they had probably never seen anyone in rigor mortis before so couldn't say for certain she was dead. I do think, as another poster mentioned, that the 911 caller was with the woman and daughter who found Maggie unresponsive.

The woman who found Maggie, A S, was a friend who was supposed to meet Maggie Friday evening. When Maggie didn't show, she called and texted her several times. After no reply, she went to Maggie's apartment Friday night and twice on Saturday. I assume she only knocked. The article says only that there was no response. The third time she went, her daughter (and the 911 caller -- possibly son, husband or SIL) just opened the door -- so it wasn't locked. Another reason the 911 caller thought Maggie had been like that for about a day, IMO, is because she hadn't responded to any of the efforts A S made to contact her Friday evening. Initially, A S may have thought she and Maggie had miscommunicated about their plans and Maggie had made other plans, but then became concerned when Maggie didn't even answer her calls or texts. To me, there is nothing suspicious about A S, or even the 911 caller now.

The friend at Walmart and Maggie could have made plans for dinner later that night. They still could be the same person. Both the woman who found her dead and the Walmart friend had known her "for years" and was considered her "mentor". Both using the same words...my guess is they are the same person. I do not think she is involved in Maggie's murder.

So there's like 5 people here who love a murdered lady.
Let's find her damned killer.

Rest in Peace Maggie

I guess the reason I had the impression the friend Maggie went shopping with and the one she planned to meet later were different was that it's reported Maggie went home with the friend after the trip to Walmart but then returned to her apartment.

But, I do see in the following article that the friend Maggie went shopping with received a text from Maggie at noon, after she'd returned home. That does leave plenty of time for Maggie to go home and do other things before going out for the evening.

The woman told NBC Charlotte Reporter Rad Berky that when they finished shopping they returned to the woman's home not far from when Daniels lived.

She said she was planning a trip out of town and Daniels was to take care of her dogs.

She says Daniels later left to go home and the last she heard from her was in a text Daniels sent her at noon Friday.

A neighbor, M F, who was also a former student, saw Maggie when he was taking out trash Friday (27th) but doesn't give a time. He told her to have a good day, so it's likely he saw her in the A.M.:

A maintenance worker at the apartments, J M, saw Maggie returning home "around lunchtime Friday", which agrees with the timeline given by the friend who accompanied Maggie to Walmart. Only, he reported she was wearing black sweatpants. Either he was mistaken, thinking of earlier that AM or another day, or Maggie could have changed into sweats after the Walmart trip. The friend lived nearby, so maybe Maggie walked to her house, rode with the friend to Walmart, and then jogged back home from the friend's house. She may have taken the sweatpants with her, or bought them at Walmart (curious to know if she did).

Around front, Eyewitness News spoke with a maintenance worker who spotted the 31-year-old arriving home around lunchtime Friday, less than 24 hours before she was discovered dead inside her apartment.

"She looked fine. She had on some sweatpants. She had on some black sweatpants,” J M said.

Did anyone see Maggie after she returned to her apartment shortly after noon?

Does anyone know what she was found wearing when she was found Saturday?

Addie Shuford is an older black woman, her daughter was the one who opened the unlocked door. Maybe she has a son or it was a friend of the daughter with them. The caller sounded as if he was with them when they opened the door. He would have known that they were trying to reach Maggie who didn't show up the night before.

Omg it was Miss Addie that found her!? I am so sorry for her. That is a wonderful woman. And if it was Miss Addie's son that is making the 911 call then there is no way in the world he is responsible. Whoever made the 911 call sounded shook up to me. Obviously did not live there as they were getting the address from someone else. And probably knew about how long Maggie was there because of Miss Addie's information that she had given him.

He saw her laying on the ground but he didn't know of she was alive or dead? Wouldn't it be pretty easy to tell between the two?

If you didn't touch them or roll them over then no. They may be not breathing, breathing and not conscious or who knows. We don't know how close they got to Maggie or if they just entered, saw she was not well and normal, and immediately called police.

It said the woman that went to walmart with her was going out of town and Maggie was going to look after her dogs. So this makes me think me think it may not be the same person

This is a question I asked a few days ago. Would be very good to know the answer! Pink shorts? Black sweats? Something else? Nothing?
