I respect that decision.

If he had harmed the little girl he'd be facing death (IMO).

And they get to beat the 5pm traffic, perhaps!

This really was not quite to that level that jurors need to be able to assign death. You really have to have a 'worst of the worst' type case. Murder of a child, multiple murders, that kind of thing. Something so shocking that there isn't a person who could possibly feel sorry for the murderer (example: Petit family murders).

I saw Smith smirking.

UGH.

Melissa's mother is so gracious. I'm not sure I would be.

Melissa's mom is reading a long, long statement of all the things they liked to do. Except. The killer doesn't care. He just doesn't.

This is essentially the exact same statement she read to Ronald Anthony. I guarantee neither listened or cared.

I totally agree.

At least society will be safe from him. But still... a hollow victory. Since he's into gang life I'm sure he'll be part of the gang in whatever prison he ends up in down the road. Maybe he'll become a victim of violence himself. He's only 23 -- got a lot of years to face.

This^. Very moving statements.

I wanted to see Travion's face. It would have been good to hear him apologize. He's probably just worried about what's for dinner and how he's gonna brag to the guys in prison about how he beat the death penalty.

It is wonderful though that the children have a mother figure who loves them (in their father's partner). I hope the father is generous with visitation to the grandparents.

Any bets on how long it takes Travion to be charged with an infraction in prison? It will take 2--3 weeks before he is assigned a permanent "residence." Health tests, psych tests, etc. -- I assume they will do this even though he has been in state prison before.

I certainly hope they do not place him where Ronald Anthony is -- Central Prison. Many lifers are assigned there... Dunno. We may have to wait a while before we know. With his gang affiliation, he should get into trouble pretty soon, IMO. He won't and can't really back down if he is to get along in there -- and I'm betting he won't back down to anything. Humility & good sense do not know this man.

I'm curious to see what happens to Redden -- I'm gonna try & keep up with that...

I've enjoyed watching this trial with all you folks -- we were a small but good & loyal group. See you again soon, I hope! I'm keeping my eyes on Justin Harris... they're in pre-trial motions, etc.
