But why aren't the PD issuing any sort of statements? That's the thing that troubles me, nothing from the cops.

Gracielee, this seems typical, IMO, for the RPD. It seems like forever, but it hasn't even been a week yet since the murder. They did say: 1) they can't say yet whether it was random; and, 2) they got her FB data.

Think about the Michelle Young, Kathy Taft, and Laura Ackerson cases. There wasn't much info shared in the early stages. LE holds their cards close to the chest.

As a local--and I usually don't follow local cases because I freak myself out too much--wouldn't they tell us if there was a danger to the public?

Please do not start speculating about other family members. They are considered victims also. If it is not in MSM or put out by LE, do not bring it here.

Thanks,

Salem

That's a good point. Isn't there another major murder in NC on trial right now? Raven someone I think is the suspect? If I remember correctly there wasn't much LE/media interaction with that case either.

The FB deletion feels more than just a coincidence. Who was she hiding from (or attempting to hide from)?

Yes, Raven Abaroa's trial is ongoing in Durham. And you are correct, reflecting back, not a lot of attention was given to the Stephanie Bennett murder some years ago. Yet that turned out to be a stalker, I'd hoped if there was a significant danger to the community, the PD would at least let those others in the community know there was/is a danger out there. :-( Before moving to the country, we too lived not too far from North Hills, where this crime happened.

My very Barney Fife like police chief once told me "Police don't believe in coincidence."

I would like to hear something. There was a ton of rain today, so I hope they had already gotten what they needed from outside.

maybe her taking down her FB really incensed the ex? Maybe really upset him and set him off?

Maybe in the morning, Tuesday, the RPD will have something for us. It will be a week and there is just no news.

IIRC the Laura Ackerson case was kept active even with tiny shreds of information. Then when the perps were arrested, it was amazing all the evidence RPD told the public at that time. So we just have to hope the evidence is adding up for the police.

There has been no evidence or information that leads there so I don't think it's fair to speculate that he's involved simply because he has the words 'ex-husband' attached to him. At this point he (and her son) are considered victims.

This announcement gives specific points where they were passing out fliers last night after 11:00 PM. Why did they not do this last week immediately when people's minds were fresh??

It is beginning to look like the RPD have little to go on? IMO. At least some movement!
Good luck to them!!

RALEIGH — Police conducted an information checkpoint near the apartment of a 30-year-old banker who was found dead in her bedroom last week.

Investigators maintained the checkpoint near the intersection of Six Forks Road and Ramblewood Drive between 11 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday. Officers at the checkpoint handed out a flier to motorists as part of their ongoing investigation into the death of Melissa Dawn Huggins-Jones, who had moved from Tennessee to Raleigh to manage a new bank branch just two weeks before her death.

The flier said police want to speak with anyone who may have been traveling in or who lives in the area near Six Forks Road, the I-440 Beltline, Ramblewood Drive, Bellevue Road, Allister Drive or Rolston Drive.

Very interesting! I was over on 6 Forks today, and drove by the apartment. There was a police car parked on the street in front (with no one in it). I was surprised by their continued presence there. I didn't turn into the parking lot.

So RPD did the checkpoint at the same day of the week and time range during when Melissa would have been killed (Mon nite/Tues AM). Hmmm.

Sounds like they're focused on reaching people who may travel that route during Monday nites, early Tuesday mornings.

I agree. That is why I said "maybe" twice in my post. And coupled with what scant facts we have seen reported, it was not that far out in left field.

I do appreciate posters like you who keep us on point, though, seriously. Too often victims are indeed unreasonably scrutinized. Sad, but true. We know it can go either way - often close to home, but just as often not.

"Fair" means that everyone gets what they need, not that everyone is treated the same.
