Lady called Mary (not sure she is member here) has brought up on FB today this John Doe with comparison to missing person - Miguel Alonso. Alonso, from New Jersey, went missing in 1986 and was known to gamble. Despite few years between him missing and this John Doe being found in hotel, I do believe Mary might be on to something, even this being possible match. She has submitted this information today to appropriate agencies.

I have opened this thread for your opinions, but also to follow up how this submission turns up. It has been very long since 1994 or even 1986.

Here is FB discussion on the case - https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1606767542721000&set=gm.1458480614241220&type=3&theater

DoeNetwork profile on decedent: The Doe Network: 1951UMNC

The victim was found in a Holiday Inn at 320 Hillsboro Street in Raleigh, North Carolina on December 10, 1994. He checked in at the motel under an assumed name and company on December 8, 1994. He paid cash for a two nights' stay with a check out date of December 10th. Checks against the company and name were negative.

There were no abandoned vehicles in the hotel parking area or nearby, nor was there recollection on behalf of cab workers as having given this gentleman a ride.

When first filling out the hotel paperwork, the man began with a name with the first two letters "Ca" and then erased them. It is thought that perhaps "Ca" are the first two letters of his name.

I've seen this Doe listed as Brian Stillwell on Unidentified Wiki. Was this the fake name he used at the hotel?

The address in the Doe Network casefile is incorrectly spelled and is actually 320 Hillsborough Street. The Holiday Inn is still there today.

I have never heard of or seen a reference to Brian Stillwell anywhere on this case, except for that you now point out; like, where did that info come from I wonder? It's not in the Reddit link or the Doenetwork media link. My thoughts are this may potentially be an erroneous error; I feel fairly confident this would have been added to the various sites where his case originated and is profiled (doenetwork, namus), if for no other reason than it is far more definitive than "Ca". Interesting ... however, I guess he did have to sign in with some name ... hmmm.

The picture in my avatar is the man found in the hotel. His name is Edward Broughton my father. He had attempted suicide twice before at least 15 years from the 1994 successful suicide. He was a father of three and dozens others as his students. He did great things in this world and helped many young men become successful in life. He left his home the morning of December 8th 1994. Mind you he left his wife and grown kids a Home in New Kent County that was paid for and fully upgraded, a newish car also paid for and cash in the drawer with a note to me saying A thousand thanks for the times we shared. He then took his Truck to the dealership for an oil change, went across the street and rented a car with cash and a false name. He then drove to Raleigh North Carolina to see a friend and some family the proceeded to the hotel where he started to sign his name in cursive with Ed and his cursive capital E did look like a C most likely muscle memory bc he did sign the registry as Brian Stillwell after that. He wasn't hiding so much as he didn't want to burden of give grief to anyone. The care in which he killed himself shows thoughtfulness as to not make much mess, hence the reason no underwear and being in a bathtub. Easy clean up. Pretty cool Dad. Love you RIP buddy.

Have you informed the relevant authorities of your suspicions?

i'm guessing he's telling you that it's solved!

There's been no public announcement and the NamUs profile is still up. The claims made have not been verified and evidence should be provided before posting something like that.

@James Broughton , I am so sorry about the passing of your father. As @The4TierBridge has posted, here at Websleuths we require proof of statements such as this. This means MSM(main stream media), such as a statement put out by Law Enforcement on X or Facebook, or a newspaper article mentioning the case has been solved. Another option is to become a Verified Insider. This means we have to take what you say as the truth. To do this, go to the Websleuths HOME page; then scroll down to the bottom ABOUT WEBSLEUTHS; click VERIFIED PROFESSIONAL AND INSIDER MEMBERS; then VERIFICATION PROCESS FOR PROFESSIONAL OR INSIDER POSTERS.
You would be an INSIDER. Hope this helps. JMO(just my opinion) MOO(my own opinion)

I posted as a farewell to my father and as a testament to his greatness. I care little for any due process.

I just want for you to know that I have been looking for his name for years and years. I first learned of his death when I began documenting and researching unidentified cases in NC some 20+ years ago. I have known the whole time that someone knew who he was, loved and cared for him, and missed him being in their lives. Peace.

He's a grieving son. What do you mean he needs to "provide evidence"? That's the last thing he needs to hear right now.
