Found Deceased NC - Raul Johnson, 4, Laurinburg, 24 January 2018

  • #481
“Bowen believes he was kidnaped because she was on her way home Wednesday around the same time Raul went missing.

“If he hadn’t have been picked up or in a wooded area, that I would have seen him and I did not see him anywhere,” said Bowen.

Since then Bowen and her neighbors have been searching for Raul.

“It’s just very heartbreaking and devastating to think about… it’s been so cold the last few nights,” said Bowen.

News 13 Crews were there as the four-year-old's uncle was patted down by police; however we do not know why. “

None of this sounds good. I was praying for a positive update today.
So does the uncle live there? I wonder who else lives in the house.

bbm I don't think this can be done. They (the dogs) would have to have something to compare the scent of the unknown person to. Unless LE suspected someone and asked that person to be sniffed by the dogs and the dogs indicated that it's the same scent, I don't see how this could have happened. Well, the theory is not impossible but I think it's farfetched because the dogs would have only looked for Raul's scent and ignored any other and therefor not indicated to the handler that there's another person.

Of course, the way it would be done is to give the dogs scents from other people involved in this situation. It would be fairly basic detective work. It's no different than getting fingerprints from people to eliminate those whom you expect to find in the home.

If this little guy were still alive, he has spent 3 nights out in the cold with little jammies on and little else. Without food, without water. How can a little 4 year old survive that?

There is almost a part of me who hopes someone has him so he's not out in the elements alone, but then God knows what other horrors he could be facing if someone nefarious has him? This is a lose-lose situation. Unless by some miracle, he found a safe warm place to hide out, with straw to keep warm, berries nearby to eat and a water source not big enough to fall into but enough to drink.

I'm rambling. Chemo brain is probably kicking in and just a disclaimer, auto correct hijacks my posts all the time and I don't always catch the bad corrections.

I completely understand what you are saying. Several years ago a child in our neighborhood went missing for a day and a half. We searched everywhere and it was assumed he had fallen in the lake nearby. That afternoon someone saw him walking down the street. Apparently he had wandered to a friends house to play. The child and his parents weren’t home so the little boy fell asleep in the corner of the child’s room waiting for him to come home. The house sitter had no idea he was there because she had not gone to the upstairs rooms. It is that type of scenario that I pray for. I know it is highly unlikely, but I still hope.

Hmm, not sure what to make of the dogs alerting to his scent tbh, there have been numerous studies done on sniffer dogs and although they seem to be right when bodies are found the results show the alerts can be caused by the handlers too

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3078300/

also wondering back to the barn he barn where he was scented to...seems like they’re focussing on that pond when maybe he went a lot further, I wonder how well the barn was checked and if there were hay bales in the barn (grew up on farms and -dangerous as i now know it is!!- when we were kids we would tunnel into Hay bales and make dens inside and climb up them etc)

I give up on trying to find info on the status of draining the 2nd pond. As previous posters mentioned, there are so many conflicting reports. At first, I think a few reports I looked up were referring to the first smaller pond so it was my own error/confusion, but even with MSM reports that seem to be referencing the latest pond, there's conflicting info about warrants being obtained (or not), draining equipment ready to start (or not) I'm very confused about the actual status of that latest pond.

Oh, I like that thought. A lot.

This triggered a memory in me, one time my husband and I rented a beach cottage. There were many rentals and they were all identical. Possible about 20-25 of them. Hubs and I are sitting in the living room and all of a sudden the sliding glass door opens and this little girl comes in. I say hello and ask her what she wants. She doesn't say a word, walks past us, into the kitchen, to the bathroom, into the bedroom. Husband and I are speechless.

Funny thing, since I post here, I know how things can look. So I didn't know whether to tell hubby to run and get out and me follow and try to find where she belonged leaving her alone in there or stay and try to talk to her or what. I didn't want to be brought up in kidnapping charges if she was found in our cottage, lol or arrested for assault or something.

While I'm standing there pondering my options and playing outcomes in my head, the little girl came back into the living room, out the sliding glass door and was gone. She of course thought it was her cottage and I guess when she didn't see Mom and Dad, she left.

His sister has done live IG posts, have they been linked here?

Sorry. Just jumping in here.
Whose sister?
The sister that was only a few years older than him, or does he have another sister?

So, no more barn info out there? I believe Raul could have walked down a road three miles by himself, no problem. What I can’t believe is that nobody noticed him by himself, even in a rural area. Can search dogs trace scent from someone inside a car? If not, is this an area where open-air farm vehicles are used on the roads? (Such as a Gator or Mule, or even a tractor.) Could someone have seen Raul at the pond unattended and taken him to the barn that way? I’m not ready to dismiss the barn yet.

There are several kids. Apparently Raul is one of 8. The sister doing the IG video is older...maybe highschool? I haven’t watched them but she was in one of the news articles holding up a poster. LE stated in one article that Raul was the youngest and the oldest child was a senior in high school.

My gut feeling just went from bad to awful....

“Gonzales and Johnson were both arrested in September on 21 total counts of child sex abuse. Gonzales remains in custody in the Scotland County Detention Center, but Johnson was released.

Kersey questioned the decision to drop the charges against Johnson that initially included five felony counts of child abuse by sexual assault, eight felony counts of accessory after the fact indecent liberties, and one felony count of forcible sex offense

“(Gonzales) was charged with actually committing the crimes,” Kersey said. “She was charged with accessory to the crimes, and how you have one without the other when you’re living in the same household surprises me.”

According to an official with the Scotland County District Attorney, the charges against Johnson were not dropped by the DA’s office. The case against Johnson was dismissed by a judge because of a lack of evidence.

“There was a hearing in court and the court ruled that there was insufficient evidence and no probable cause to support the case,” the official said. “There was a legal finding by the court. Witnesses testified and didn’t implicate her. There was a full trial.”

There are also ongoing cases open on the child’s family by the Scotland County Department of Social Services, and the children have been removed by DSS from Johnson’s custody on several occasions.

April Snead, director of DSS, declined to comment on the case citing confidentiality rules.”

Could Raul have been by the pond and some sick monster saw him and carried him away to the barn? I know the barn is far away, maybe he was driven there? It's odd that the dogs picked up scents from two different areas like that.

As far as the neighbors with the pond- I do recall reading that they allowed LE to search their property and allowed divers to go into their pond. But as others have said, this pond could be stocked with their dinner. I have never heard of such a time when a pond was drained for a missing child, where the owners were reimbursed to replace the fish and water- has anyone else? I feel if they had something to hide, they wouldn't have allowed LE on the property in the first place without a warrant. As I said before, we don't have Raul's family for neighbors- this may not be their first rodeo with Raul or one of his siblings going missing (in terms of wandering off) and they're are probably convinced that he's not in their pond, especially if he had gone missing before and was found shortly after.

I wonder how close the pond is to their home- maybe they were outside when he went missing and feel he wasn't there at all, as they would have seen him.

Not all sexual predators are listed, trust me on that one. Many of these sick monsters never see the inside of a court room because their victims are too afraid to come forward. Many times, parents are discouraged from allowing their children to tell their stories in court because a defense lawyer would rip them apart on the stand and traumatize them further. Meanwhile, these sick monsters live amongst us, and strangers have no clue who their living next door to sometimes. It's only after they murder someone that the sirens go off about them being sexual predators and some former victims come forward with their stories. Many do not murder their victims.

Oh and by the way, the reason I am defending the neighbors for the time being is because I have seen single handedly people's yards being torn up for various reasons- searches, utility companies needed to go through their property to put in a pipe or pole or some other thing. Trust me when I tell you, they rip the yard to shreds, and the clean up as well as the work to have it put back together is at the cost of the OWNER. Maybe these people know that they won't get reimbursed for the search to fill up and restock their pond, and they can't afford to do this them self. I mean, which one of us will set up a GoFundMe account or some other bank account to help these people recover any money they might lose from the search?

I also wonder if anyone around that neighborhood has deer or wildlife cameras set up on their property. Many people in my town have them.

You're thinking like me. I would love to know where that barn is. I have a feeling it's going east on Pea Bridge Road near Bridge Creek, but please, this is just a feeling; don't quote me. That's three miles. I'm not seeing another road that is still rural at the end of three miles. It would also be interesting to know if the barn and pond are connected somehow. Again, just my thoughts only.

Did they drag the pond before starting to drain it? That's what I've always heard of here in Florida.

Do you know where that barn is in relation to the larger pond?

I'm wondering the same thing, and I'm sure BlkMtnGirl is, too. The dogs tracked Raul's scent at both places, which tells me somehow, Raul was in that barn. Yet, I do no recall that there were any foot prints of Raul's at the barn, just his scent. Which tells me that if he was there, he must have been carried by someone. Was it in the barn they found his scent, outside, or both? I can't remember now, sorry.
