Chambers recalled making eye contact with McNeill and the child.

McNeill nodded his head.

"The child did look my way," he said under questioning. "The child did not wave but gave a flip of the hand. I think the only reason I remember them is because of the way the child was held. Real high, not low, like you normally would hold a child."

The child, he told defense lawyer Terry Alford, was not being held in an affectionate manner. Because she was wrapped in a blanket, Chambers said, he only saw part of her head.

Kudzu and other thick vegetation had entangled the body of 5-year-old Shaniya Davis when investigators found the child in November 2009, six days after she was reported missing from her aunt's mobile home in Fayetteville.

Chad Royal, a crime scene investigator with the State Bureau of Investigation, testified Monday in the Mario McNeill capital murder trial that the child was wearing a dark-colored shirt and pink-striped underwear. Her feet were partially in water.

"Around her mouth was a little discoloration," Royal said in Cumberland County Superior Court. "Vegetation was intertwined around her. The skin appeared to have goose bumps."

The child's body was located partially under a log in a depression in a wooded area where the carcasses of hunted deer are discarded off Walker Road in Lee County.

"You could barely see the legs," he said.

Matthew Argyle, a former maintenance worker at Comfort Suites in Sanford, testified that he saw McNeill carry a child over his shoulder out of the hotel on the morning of Nov. 10, 2009, and place her in the right rear side of a car. Argyle said he thought the child was asleep.

He said the child appeared to be about 6 years old and female.

Argyle, who was picking up trash in the hotel's parking lot, said the scene bugged him.

"I just had a feeling something was amiss," he said. "Something wasn't right."

Argyle said the child's legs moved as McNeill carried her, but he saw no independent movement.

"I did not see any movement from the child," he said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — One juror wiped away tears and others were visibly upset Tuesday morning as they reviewed photos and watched a 14-minute video showing the overgrown kudzu patch where the body of a 5-year-old Fayetteville girl was found more than three years ago.

My heart goes out to this jury and what they have to see and hear in this case. But I am glad they are viewing images of little princess as she was found. Its important they understand just how bad this man is and how heinous his crime was. Not just in their heads, but in their hearts IMO.

No matter how I say this it wont sound good but, Im glad emotions are running really high in court, Im glad the jury saw the family member NOT able to handle testomony, and Im so glad a juror was crying........its bad, but it will help bury this so far under the jail he wont ever see the light of day untill his sorry, worthless butt rots or gets put to sleep for good!!!

Ooohh, that just gave me cold chills. Sometimes we just have those feelings -- "felt something was wrong" -- <smh> -- I think it's a very primitive sense we have -- like knowing someone is looking at you -- it's a survival instinct, I think. And he was right.

Was Shaniya already near death when he saw her, or did MAM give her something to make her drowsy, or was she just tired and hurting?

That poor man, how he must have had so many thoughts, and possibly bad dreams, about those moments.

In this link you can hear McNeill speak to the judge. Channel 11 keeps saying 'you can hear testimony online, but I can't find where, online? Anybody know how/where to find other witness testimony?
