We look through a peephole at the life of a man who made decisions that have had terrible, heartbreaking consequences. If we could see through a huge bay window, we might understand his reasoning more. Not to say there would not still be poor decisions, but there could be extenuating circumstances.

We do not know all the particulars of the marriage, death of his wife, custody battles, and personal battles he may have gone through in the last 20 years. We do not know what past demons he may have had to overcome, personally and spiritually, to get where he is now.

I would hate for someone to take one small period of time in my evolution and place it under a microscope to be exposed for everyone to judge. I am a product today of all of my experiences, both good and bad, and all that I have learned from them. I believe that is true of all of us, including BL. Sometimes we make mistakes that hurt others, and all of the could have, should haves change nothing. All we can do is pray that we are forgiven and learn from the mistake. Is it enough? No, in some cases, it is not. It's just all that we have left.

I make no judgement on this man. I know he is in his own kind of hell right now, and he will never be the same. Shaniya is safe . Now let's get those who purposefully and with complete awareness caused this child suffering and death.

The creature and the others at the trailer weren't seen on video surveillance looking around at 5:30 a.m.
I put up the transcript that says they were looking after they made the 911 call. I think it's on the last page of the last thread.
They only saw them outside looking between the call and the arrival of LE.

Interesting considering AD says in the 911 call that she looked all around the front. Big hole in her story right there..

Of course she had to say she looked...she knew who had Shaniya and exactly what he was doing to her...MOO.
There are enough holes in her story to drive a semi through.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Barbara has installed four surveillance cameras. Barbara says that after Shaniya was missing, you can see on the surveillance tape the family coming out and actually looking around, as if they`re looking for a child at that point.

I missed the posts where others mentioned this, but his drastic change of accent/dialect stood out to me too.

Example for someone who did not notice..anyone can respond unless it is not good idea?

I'm not getting how talking about BL's accent could be conceived as racist.

everyoneneedsavoice took offense at the comments regarding the "change in dialect" bio dad exhibitted in various interview, etc. Because everyone who commented seemed to be pointing at the fact that when around african americans he seems to speak in a more urban eubonic manner than when around an audience of whites. Only everyone used terms like "dialect" rather than being direct.

Living in a very diverse neighborhood I see a lot of young white males and females whose friends include a lot of african americans who speak in this manner too. It is a social thing and not a "dialect".

For the record I think the whole dialect thing is completely off topic and I am sorry that it came up here as I think it is a distraction from the real issues -

What was done to Shaniya and by whom and will the system provide justice for this child.

I want to thank the people who explained 'her hair is out'.
I had no idea what that meant. I just thought her hair at the
elavator was just another style like in the 70's.
I have friends and relatives with bi racial children, but never talked about
ethnic things because they are just sweet children to me.

I have been lurking and decided to join yesterday. This story of this poor girl has bothered me more than words can say as I am from Sanford and her pitiful little body was found less than 10 miles from my home and I drive by the Comfort Suites every day on my way to work.

I have been following all the threads and I am an admitted news junkie anyway. I normally prefer WRAL for my local news but I am finding that ABC11 - the other local station in Raleigh - seems to have more tidbits on this case. Case in point is this article this morning that implies BL's girlfriend, Ty, took care of Shaniya until he met someone else while he was working in Utah and she just fell off the grid and seems it was during that timeframe, Shaniya went to leave with AD.

The change in dialect could be nothing more than a mild case of being a cocktail personality. Not all people with this disorder are dangerous, but it can make them look suspicious because they take on the demeanor, speech patterns, attitudes and mannerisms of those around them. Most of the time, it's unintentional and not fully controllable.

I do find the change in speech odd, but it sometimes happens when two ethnic groups collide.

I don't know how to say this without offending someone, but there were two very distinct accents between a couple of the interviews. I think the difference could be construed as him having different emotional control during different interviews.

I don't think this is offensive as I've lived in the south my whole life. One accent was lightly southern. The other accent seemed to be in line with some areas of a southern minority population. See? It almost sounds more offensive to hedge around it. Surely it's not some big biased, secret thing that white and black people often speak with different accents in some areas. I lived in that area. I had many black friends. I don't sound like my black friends. They don't sound like me. Why would that be wrong to say? They'd be first to say they're glad they don't sound like me, LOL!

I find that sometimes my "accent" changes when I'm around different people. I'll soften my 'a's if I'm around a person from GB. I draw out my 'o's a bit if I talk to someone from Canada while. Someone who spends a lot of time around people of different backgrounds might end up sounding more like them.

Welcome, amf. Thank you for posting the link. I read that yesterday, then could not remember which site it was on. Such a sad decision to send Shaniya to AD's.

I have a couple of questions. Have you heard any local *talk* where the trial might be held? In your opinion, does one county have a better prosecutor than the other?

Hello group.long time lurker not often poster here........ What greatly bothers me are the ones who are choosing to place blame on this father. I seriously doubt that any one of us has been a perfect parent.....no matter how hard we try. That being said, I also seriously think that neither the father nor the aunt seen any of this coming. I would venture to guess that when the Aunt dropped her off.....she wasn't allowed inside and this was probably the general rule. the "mom" came outside and got her. With that being said.......even if she had been allowed inside, the Aunt had no rights. I honestly believe that everyone needs to back off dad on this one. How would any one of us feel being in his shoes? "Mom" had always been satisfied with having Shaniya for a couple of days once a month or whatever......who seen any of this coming? How could they? Who would ever assume that any Mother would put their child in harms way....intentionally! As far as his "dialect" what does it matter? I would certainly hope that if I were in his shoes, people would find, not the way I talk but my actions at that timeas who I am... not how I speak.

Dad might have made the decision to let Shaniya go there ( but I also think he had no choice, if he let Mom have her once per month..."Mom" never made any demands to keep her) you can bet your last dollar Dad deeply regrets letting her go......Let's place the blame where it should be and not on a Dad who is clearly suffering.....

It's unbeleiveable to me how a renter BD/AD could take a livable place and in 3 months turn it into 'uninhabitable!'

Thanks. I wondered if that might have something to do with it. Meeting someone else, I mean. Sorry to say, sometimes things go bad when there's a change in relationships, whether it hurts the person's ability to parent time-wise or the new person just isn't in to kids, etc.
