I guess I just don't get it as to why this matters. Why so much emphasis on the father of this child? It's as NG said last night on her show, yes, it's true, if he had not let her go there, she would probably still be alive but....he is not the person that destroyed this child. The 2 people behind bars right now are, so far as we know. BL didn't intentionally harm his daughter. The other 2 's did! His reasons for letting Shaniya go there have already been stated. His admission that it was a mistake has already been stated. I guess I just don't see anything constructive coming out of picking apart the whys and what fors of his decision. He's stated in the last presser that he was not aware of what she had gone into and would have appreciated a call from DCF since there was already an investigation on Antoinette and her 7 yr. old boy but that didn't happen.

There were a lot of circumstances that could have and should have been different to prevent the eventual tragedy that has taken place here and ALL of them failed. ALL of them. The way I see it, everyone had a part in that failure. From Dad, to the Aunt, the landlord of that MH, the manager of the park, the neighbors, the Board of Health, DCF, Antoinette, school officials, the perp or perps, etc., etc. And out of that whole mess, there were only 2 that did deliberate damage to this child, her mother and the perp(s). That was intentional!

I can't let the dad off the hook for not making sure his daughter would be living in a safe environment. That is one of our primary duties as parents. It would not have taken much to figure out that trailer was no place for a little girl. Letting her go live there is tantamount to depraved indifference in my opinion.

I came across this earlier - taken from Nancy Grace - talking about Barbara Moore who owns the mhp

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Moore also says police told her they`re looking at surveillance video of anyone who left the mobile home park around 3:00 that morning.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Barbara has installed four surveillance cameras. Barbara says that after Shaniya was missing, you can see on the surveillance tape the family coming out and actually looking around, as if they`re looking for a child at that point.

Over custody, yes.

You can be poor, live in very simple conditions, be unemployed etc... but you don't necessarily have to be a bad parent. And vise versa.

It's been mentioned here that BL was paying child support for Shaniya. Could it be possible he was paying the support to AD in return for him having custody of her?

respectfully snipped to address the item that caught my eye and I have a comment upon.

My brother has paid his exwife child support for YEARS for children he and his current wife are raising and have been this whole time. The agreement is if my brother keeps paying child support even tho my nephews haven't been in her care or custody for years, then she won't try to interfere with my brother rasing them properly. (mom has some stabilty, boyfriend, household, employment etc history)

It is much easier for my brother to just stay with the status quo than go to court, have to call mom out on inappropriate living conditions, behaviors, etc. in order to make the custody arrangement official.

It is unfortunate but it is not an uncommon arrangement in todays society.

Many mothers would prefer not to have their children as long as it doesn't interfere with the child support still showing up.

That has to really be verified because I didn't read that Shaniya was in a Halloween outfit on that particular day when the photo was taken.

Although IF that picture was taken on October 31, 2009 then that was the day the aunt dropped Shaniya off at her mother's place. :waitasec:

Something I was trying to figure out last night that is bothering me.
MAM took her to the hotel for a very short amount of time.
I did a search for available hotels and 45 came up. Now that is quite a few to choose from. There were others cheaper. Also, others that would give more privacy with just an outside entrance to a room instead of having to walk through a lobby with a little girl in your arms. Why did he choose this hotel?
Did he have a connection with this hotel already? Was he able to get access to a room for free?
If all he wanted to do was clean her up, he could have stopped somewhere and used a restroom.

Also, when his family told him the police were looking for him, where was he? Did they call him on a cell phone or did they actually see him?

Could it be possible that Shaniya was still alive then but when he found out he was being looked for he killed her then?

Several people saw and addressed that issue with daddy about her cigarette burns........:banghead:
Also: I found it very strange when her little brother did say that she went to females and stayed clear of males (not quoting him) but that is a red flag too.

The cigarette burns have not been documented as a fact.

That is an opinion of someone who saw them.

I know no one is going to believe this but I worked with children for 31 years and had this one student who got mosquito bites. If I had not observed her scratching them and making them bigger every day I'd have reported it to SS that she had cigarette burns.

They were round like cig burns and she now has those round scars that look like they were made by cig burns. I saw that happen right before my eyes.

I never thought I'd say this but and I did have children from abusive homes who had had cig burns...this was identical.

I've been heartbroken about this case all week. My emotions have been all over the place regarding all these characters. I too heard the son speak on NG about "Mario" very loosely, with a sense of familiarity that seemed unmistakeable. He said something about "Mario" and the video tape, I believe. It did sound like he knew him personally, not just some who stole his sister. I have a feeling they all know each other to some degree. The son said he's pick Shaniya up and take her to Chuck E. Cheese's, etc... Where did he pick her up from? Was it the trailer park, or was this sometime before. He said he lives in Charlotte?
With the father, I've tried to give the benedit of the doubt, because I know he's grieving, but he made some serious, serious mistakes that cannot be overlooked. If I speculate some, I feel that after his wife was killed, he couldn't cope with being a full-time father, so his children went to live with his father-in-law. His son doesn't share his last name. Since the son appeared to me to be well-spoken and well-cared for, that must mean something, of who he feels closer to. I'm curious as to what the friend, Todd Allen said, that after taking care of Shaniya for months, the girlfriend, Ty, just slipped out of the picture.
I have to wonder if he met another woman in Utah, as Allen speculated, and broke up with his girlfriend. Could he have been planning to spend more time/move to Utah, did he not want a little girl to take with him, that responsibility? If he put the little girl with his sister or the Allen family, he would have still had to answer to them, with money, any problems that may have arisen. However, if he could put Shaniya with her mother, he could possibly put all of the responsibility on AD and slink off into the west and not have to feel responsible for her. She'd be with her "mother", a legal parent, it wouldn't be on anyone else. If the mom really was working, etc..., he may have hoped she could provide for Shaniya in all areas, and he could just slip her some child support now and then. I just have a feeling he wanted to give up responsibility, because why else would he not check better into the circumstances of his beloved daughter's new home?

We need a better timeline! I recall Shaniya being dropped off Oct. 9th a Friday. Aunt C getting the "you won't see her again" phone call Oct 11th a Sunday. And that she was "withdrawn" from school about mid Oct.-so that would be the first week of her being with AD. I suspect the abuse started almost immediately after Oct. 9th!:furious:

I realize that many have opinions on AD's home, but one thing to keep in mind is that a sewer problem can occur at the drop of a hat. I live in a small town and we have a city sewer system--not septic tanks. But, tree roots etc can cause blockages that just all of a sudden reach the point of backing up. We don't know if this just happened the day before or when. The trailer park manager is likely the responsible party if the back up is in the line itself. So, I feel it isn't really fair to blame them for this. We don't know if they contacted the manager and it was not taken care of or what the circumstances were. JMO

It's looking like the father has a history of "throwing" away (and in a sense punishing) hs children for some disobedience?

1- Shaniya had a fight with cousins so...off to the mom with her

2- the older sister (17) was kicked out of the house by the dad for some reason and was living with someone else.

3- the older brother (who was on NG) said he did not live at home either but was living in Charlotte. What's up with that? And by the way, this older brother did not seem pleased or comforted by his father coming up behind him and kissing his head and wrapping his arms around him. There was no sign of affection returned by him to the father. I am assuming that this boy's mother is the one who was shot and killed - were they living with the father (Brad) at that time or were they thrown out too?

How many other kids does the father have? do they live at home? are they all bi-racial? There is something not right here.

Seems Bryon is in Charlotte for college. I thought this was an interest article. I just don't know if it is all true, but if it is, BL hasn't raised 3 of his kids on his own.

AD was in and out of evicted dwellings...so what weekends did she spend with her recently??

AD does have a mother who she has apparently lived with on and off too...so she may have been there in the past

they moved to sleepy hollow in the past few months...it was leased by her sister BD....AD tried to lease there but was rejected

this past summer she was evicted from the place on "wall street"

one of BL's first pressers he said "she had her own place and was working for 6 months"...well he really didn't check that out did he?? cause it was bull

I think people who love a child should check out things...make sure...that is the way to protect them. Too often I think people will do things just for their own convenience and make excuses and "rationalize" things
I see a whole lot of "rationalizaton" going on here

as for why go into this?? well...thank god very few parents would do what AD did...
but JMO many many might do some variation of what BL did....put a kid in a place without checking, shove a kid off for a bit to convenience themselves...use a kid as a "pawn" due to some family dispute (seems to be something going on between him and his sister)...rationalize that "it's time they take their turn" without checking the place out

we have seen other cases where a single mom takes up with a guy without checking him out ....or someone trusts a child to a "bad" babysitter...none of them "plan" these things...but the resulting tragedy is to the child
and that is what hurts

Okay, so here's my theory, based on what I know (feel free to poke holes!):

ALL OF THIS IS MY OPINION:

AD is a prostitute
BL is a customer of AD's
I base this theory on the fact that BL's father-in-law mentioned that BL goes there for sex. I also think it would be easier for AD to put her own daughter in prostitution if she herself did it as well.

AD is a drug addict.

On the night before Shaniya was reported missing, AD needed a fix and MAM provided. Payment was Shaniya.

I really don't think AD "sold" Shaniya. I think AD rented her out and she wasn't brought back as expected.

The 911 phone call was real in a sense that perhaps MAM did not bring Shaniya back.

When MAM heard AD called the police, he then killed her and dumped her in a panic.

Juristiction is whatever county Sanford is in, IMO.

This sounds very plausible. I'm very curious to see what phones were made or received while MAM was in the hotel room. According to the time line, she was in the hotel room, alive when the 911 call was made.

I've read on here that AD was a babysitter to BL older children and that is how the affair began.

I never thought of that, thanks for giving me another way to look at things.
AND I still say that when my friends go on vacation they investigate thoroughly where they leave their PETS.
I think a child deserves at least as much as a pet.
No way did anyone investigate where this child was sent.
