I think about her too. I did the walk in NYC and since the SD case, I can hardly participate in most of the crimes against children threads. This case changed me.I wish I could attend. I think about her all the time, I guess in my way that's my own memorial!

But I will do the walk again next year, and continue to donate to the cause against trafficking children.
Hi sweet heart I missed you susyq :blowkiss: I guess we are on different threads.![]()
If you are in NY that would be Awesome. But FYI I posted on the Human Trafficking site a link to the Stop Human Trafficking now !!! they have walks in many, many States. here is that link.Hi Song!!! I would love to meet you next year and do the walk with you!!
God bless our Shaniya (and Zahra, and Ethan and Kyron and ALL the others!) These beautiful children have changed our lives...I want to help make a change as well!!!
Very sad that a year later nothing has really changed to prevent this from happening again.
What a community. Are there any local advocacy groups or anything that will keep this story alive? Even a related issue - drugs, prostitution, child abuse much less crime and punishment.

Hi sweet PassionBBM and Zahra's birthday memorial.
Both had horrific deaths, hope they are best friends now in heaven.........
ty Oriah, Sometimes a gentle reminder is needed to keep our anger focused where it belongs:
on MAM and AD.
Does cps need some overhauling? Yep. But IMO it is not just in NC where that needs to happen. We have issues as a nation with Child Protective agencies.
Couldn't agree with you more, tlcox.
Nationwide, CPS is a place for a thread all it's own.

Just a few links to show that yes, Fayetteville and NC does care about drugs, prostitution, human trafficking and the like.
I'd also like to note that this community specifically supports more than 40,000 Americans in uniform who help to keep the freedoms we have FREE as Americans across the nation. There is a tremendous amount of personal sacrifice for the United States of America in Fayetteville.
This community (like many communities everywhere) has experienced its fair share of horrible crimes- the selling, rape, and murder of Shaniya being one of them.
This community also works its' behind off, to try and fight crime.
Given what you say, perhaps a new set of standards and practices will be developed for this growing exploitation of children. Many years ago, locally a DA took on the "mission" to prevent child abuse-related deaths. While this DA was alive - his work lived on but now it has faded away fast.
I am thinking that CPS (at least here) is about keeping families together and are a social work/caseworker model. Perhaps if child abuse was treated as a crime and reported to LE - it might have better outcomes?
I am certainly not picking on your community - just that something somewhere needs to change and set a tone for improvement. Here in NYS - we will be the last to change. Way too much politics. Our family court system is so political - oftentimes, despite repeated abuse, the court gives the kids back to the offending parent.
I'd like the system (CPS) to change for the better.
Today is Shaniya's official date of death. She was found, thrown away like trash one year ago today.
My heart is heavy this morning.
RIP baby girl.
Good morning everyone. My heart, too, is heavy this morning with a weight I know will never be lifted.

Shaniya, I hope you and Zahra have met up by now, and you've shown her all the best places to play. I left you a tiny concrete angel at the site on which you were found, early this morning.
You will never be forgetten. Never.
Hugs to all who loved this beautiful child, on this sad day.

I understand completely and appreciate your sentiment. I just wanted to clarify that this commmunity is no better/worse than many others in that regard. That's why I was suggesting we open a CPS/DSS/DFC etc thread.
A lot of work to be done there, and a lot of crimes against children and families to be researched.
