Thank you everyone!
I'm headed off now to check out the court situation with AD, and have printed out a bunch of form letters for the playground that I am hoping to pass out. Then people could just sign them and mail them in.
I figured there might be some support for Shaniya at the courthouse. :)
Thanks again.

Ok, AD is still on the docket for tomorrow, so we shall see........keeping fingers crossed!

I forgot to add about the playground; if anyone gets a return email saying that's the wrong place to make this request, could you let me know? I've gotten mixed messages as to who the right people are to contact, but this was the place that I was ultimately directed to.
Thanks again everyone!

I am writing to request that the council permit the construction of a playground in honor and memory of Shaniya Davis. This little innocent touched hearts across this nation. She is still very present in many of our thoughts. What happened to this beautiful, energetic, happy go lucky little girl haunts many of us to this day.

A playground that could ring with the laughter of other children would be such a blessed way to honor this little angel’s memory.

the above email just sent in Shaniya's behalf.

A Davis family member has said the Department of Social Services had contact with the mother's household before Shaniya's murder.

After the arrests, Fayetteville police complained to Grannis that they hadn't received full cooperation from DSS in the murder probe.

Grannis asked the State Bureau of Investigation to look into it. Last week, however, Grannis took the DSS investigation away from the SBI and gave it to Butler's internal affairs office.

DA: DSS will not face criminal charges in Shaniya Davis probe

http://fayobserver.com/articles/2010/09/30/1035661?sac=Home

District Attorney Ed Grannis said today he won't file criminal charges against personnel of the Cumberland County Department of Social Services in connection with the Shaniya Davis murder investigation.

But the prosecutor was critical of the DSS and the State Bureau of Investigation, which initially examined the DSS.

The girl's mother is scheduled to go on trial later this fall.

Cumberland DA: DSS 'dropped the ball' in probe of girl's death

http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/8378764/

DSS previously worked with Shaniya's family regarding her older brother, according to family members. The case was later closed without action, they said.

Grannis said DSS "dropped the ball" when it came to helping police during the murder investigation, turning over information only after a judge ordered the agency to do so.

"It's critically important that DSS cooperate with law enforcement in every way to possibly save the life of the child. It does not appear that occurred," he said.

Police didn't get any worthwhile information from DSS workers about the Davis family until three days after Shaniya disappeared, he said.

Probe In To DSS Handling Of Davis Case Over

http://news.mync.com/site/news/story/55704/cumberland-co.-da-to-discuss-shaniya-davis-case-thursday/

The county agency was questioned after critics alleged documents may have been altered after the slaying. During Thursday's press conference, Grannis acknowledged there were some wrong doing and there were some missing emails.

Grannis adds that the investigation into the girls death continues.
Mario McNeill has been charged with Shaniya's murder. Her mother, Antoinette Nicole Davis, has been charged with human trafficking, felony child abuse/prostitution, filing a false police report, and resist, delay, or obstruct.

Hey ya'll... I want to be sure we keep this thread on track, so maybe whenever we have a media link to the ongoing case(s) involving Shaniya, we could also just star it or heart it or something and have that denote that another email/mail was sent to either the Sanford council (listed above) or Fayetteville Parks and Rec:

City Hall
433 Hay Street
Fayetteville, NC 28301
910-433-1FAY(1329)

Thanks. :)

And ETA: DSS would not be bad to email/write either.
Somewhere there should be a playground designated in honor of all children who have falled through cracks, everywhere.

Sorry Oriah, I talked to Salem and she said we could discuss the Presser here since Shaniya's thread is still closed.
I tried to just bring over the info without discussion. lol (and that was hard for me, trust me).

I don't think that's a problem at all. I was just hoping to increase letters. :)
