The goal of almost all DFCS, DCF and CPS in the country is family reunification. It is about numbers and money. This has been the way of it at least from the 60's and 70's when they tried to send me back to the family that abused me. I refused. Had I returned...I would have been a concrete angel. We have fostered to adopt since and they still try to unify with some member of the family first. It is simply criminal and children have no voice.

I agree. I'm so glad you did not go back.

Great post.

Couldn't agree with you more, tlcox.

Nationwide, CPS is a place for a thread all it's own.

We have a thread for CPS/DSS here: [ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94524"]Overhaul of Social Services? Stop these tragedies before they happen??? - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community[/ame]

This thread was created to try to come up with ways to change or help this broken system.

Angel Shaniya,

Tears for you today, precious, innocent, beautiful baby girl; this world didn't deserve you.

May you forever have peace, joy and loving arms to hold you.

Justice for the children...

Good morning everyone. My heart, too, is heavy this morning with a weight I know will never be lifted.

Shaniya, I hope you and Zahra have met up by now, and you've shown her all the best places to play. I left you a tiny concrete angel at the site on which you were found, early this morning.

You will never be forgetten. Never.

Hugs to all who loved this beautiful child, on this sad day.

Thank you, beautiful song. :beats:

I purposely avoided the forum and in particular this thread today as I really needed to get through the day at work without emotional breakdown or mood swings. This anniversary coupled with it being little Zahra Baker's birthday just really made today a risky day for my emotions.

Now that I have done what needed doing and addressed my real life responsibilities, I just wanted to come and acknowledge this awful anniversary.

I am so sorry little angel baby, that your time here was so brief. Rest easy sweetpea. We are still here, we are still keeping your memory and still standing vigil to make sure justice is done in your name.

It IS an awful anniversary, and tlcox I know exactly how you feel.
I cried when I left the statue then got myself together and began to put my mind in different place. A place where I find a tremedous amount of peace in SAR actually finding her. Not only has she been properly laid to rest....but the evidence collected when a missing person is found very often changes everything in a murder case.

Many thanks to all who searched so diligently for Shaniya, and found her in enough time to hopefully seal MAM's fate.

Peace to you tlcox. It has been a hard day for all of us, I think.

I'm having a hard time finding words today, but I couldn't let this anniversary pass in silence.

Rest in peace beautiful little Shaniyah. May you and all the little angels hold close to each other in the light of heaven.

First anniversary of Shaniya Davis' death marked with service

676277;.aspx

More than 100 relatives, friends and neighbors gathered for a memorial service Tuesday night at the Freedom International Ministries hall off Murchison Road, where they remembered Shaniya through prayer, song and poetry.

"We still have a lot of pain and hurt here as a community. I hurt every day," said Shaniya's father, Bradley Lockhart. "It's up to God and the justice system to actually determine justice for Shaniya. ... Forgiveness and peace is already within me; however, anger still sits."

Thanks Oriah, do you just have to look at every calandar? I don't see a search option. Well, there is a search box, but when you put one of the evil one's name in, it just gives a bunch of results that don't really pertain to them.

If you can help, I'd really appreciate it. I must be doing something wrong.

Number of children in foster care increases since Shaniya case

Cumberland County has a record number of children in foster care, a trend that could be attributed to heightened public awareness of potential abuse in the wake of the Shaniya Davis murder.

Shaniya's rape and murder in November 2009 has been in the news over the past year, and that has raised awareness of abuse, Skeens said. There are indications that the 5-year-old's family had been investigated by DSS before her murder. Her mother has been charged with giving the girl to a man as payment for a debt. Both are charged.

"I believe it's because when you have a tragedy in a community, there's more of a heightened response" by DSS, the court system and the public, she said. "We bring children in quicker than we normally would, they stay in longer because the court holds them in foster care longer."

And children are more likely to be placed with foster families instead of relatives, she added.

Although Shaniya wasn't in foster care when she was killed, District Attorney Ed Grannis has said the Department of Social Services - the agency tasked with investigating child abuse and neglect and removing children from dangerous situations - had an open investigation into her household before she was reported missing.

The agency has drawn intense criticism of how it handled the Shaniya case. Grannis accused DSS leadership of hindering the search for her and the investigation of her murder.

Thanks for the memorial links, but I just couldn't watch knowing momster is still free and may be there..........heartbreaking!

I didn't see her there passion, but I never really thought of that!
OMG I would die if I saw her at that memorial.

Maybe she was home getting her next fix. We all know how important that is to her. She'd sell ANYTHING/ANYONE for it. Even her own precious 5 year old child.

Ok, gonna take a break. Blood pressure just sky rocketed I do believe.

You may be spelling the name(s) wrong. The search option is extremely sensitive with names. Try altering spelling. The system has their names spelled one way for certain date, and others for other dates.

Barring that (which usually works for me) you may have to go through the calenders themselves. A pain, I know.
