He is safer in jail. If he were to get out someone will kill him. He doesn't deserve to live after what he did! Let him out and send him to Texas!

Seems this has been a problem for quite some time.
Here is an article about Cumberland County murder trial backlogs from 1998.

Murder Case Backlog Easing Some; Victims' Families Still Agonize Over Wait

FAYETTEVILLE — Justice takes time. For the families of murder victims, sometimes it takes too much time.

A backlog of murder cases in Cumberland County means murder suspects won't go to court for two, possibly three years.

I wonder what the average amount of time for indictments is in NC?
I'll dig.

I'm not finding much info on how long it normally takes for grand jury indictments in NC.

Maybe I will try to get some opinions/help from some of our WS verified legal eagles.

ETA: I have asked one of our verified lawyers about this.
I will let y'all know what I found out.

In Guilford Co. we have more than several inmates that have been in jail for
4-5 years, waiting to go to court. I think this is the norm in NC.

I think so too Suthrnqt.
It's a shame that there is such a backlog. It's hard to wait. I can only imagine how all the family members of murder victims feel waiting years for their love one's trial to get started.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks. I do realize these things take time, I guess what upsets me the most is the fact that AD is free and that there have been no indictments at all. Let's get to that stage and THEN I can wait for a trial...but FGS let's get started!

I think shes gonna plea! Thats why shes out. It was very early on. moo

The WS verified attorney I spoke to today said Grand Jury Indictments vary widely from state to state so he/she could not really help me out with my questions.

I will continue to dig. Something has to be out there.

It seems to me that we all know who the perps are.
It seems to me there are many hidden pieces to this case.
It seems to me that unlike some murder trials where they have to uncover information, this case has enough data to have the tow of them indicted, and charged while waiting.
And if I was a parent of this child I would be making a lot of noise.

Sometimes these types of crimes are not isolated incidents, unfortunately. I do understand about the backlog, but it is possible that LE is looking into other similar situations and trying, sadly, for something bigger than the trafficking and murder of Shaniya. There may be other children involved. The street dealers of illegal drugs get them from somewhere...and those people get them from somewhere else. The currency is not always cash. This takes a LOT of time, if you want it to stick in court.
Just a thought. But maybe I'm just being hopeful.
MOO.

If that were the case, I might be able to wait a little longer. However, I have never been known for my patience! :-) As long as our Angel is never lost, justice for Shaniya is a priority!

lucky!!! Me too. I still see him in my nightmares sometimes.
It's so odd.

Or I'll be in a crowd and see someone who looks like him and I get chills.

I truly belive it's coming. Shaniya has NOT been forgotten. I know this seems like a cut and dry case, but I think it might not be. Just my opinion though.

Does anyone else think that Shaniya was not Mario's first victim?
