NC NC - Shannon Rippy VanNewkirk, 54, Wilmington, 5 April 2014 *GUILTY

I have been following this thread for some time now and it sure is confusing.

I have an idea. Could Shannon have be seeing Mott, not Bradley?

I know that it doesn't help much, but it was just an idea that came to me as I was reading this thread.

I thought way back that it was thought she had a date. If she was already seeing one of those co-workers, would she have been dating others? Did this cause an argument? It's confusing to me.

Sorry if this has already been covered but just in case. The hearing is ongoing right now, if you want to follow on twitter:

@BaileyWECT

Mott testified that he had been romantic off and on with Rippy.

Wect is covering.

http://www.wect.com/story/25522453/prosecution-pushes-to-keep-james-bradley-behind-bars
"In his opening statement, David said his testimony will show that Bradley was last seen with Vannewkirk, when she left downtown Wilmington to go to his house."

this is a probable cause hearing for the charges against Bradley.

A lot of information of what transpired during the hearing and very interesting in the above WECT article.

Well that is an interesting article. Glad to know some facts in the case.

She had 17 conversations with Bradley between April 1-5. Bradley never tried to contact her phone after the 5th. Also there was no signal from his phone from the evening of the 5th until the morning of the 6th. I wonder where he put her?

Poor Shannon. She was dating Steve on and off for years and they got together at least once a week outside of work. I can see her wanting more of a steady relationship. I do believe that part of what Bradley said to LE.

And that she was disappointed that Steve didn't do anything for her birthday that Saturday night (she spoke to Steve at 7pm) But he did plan to see her later in the day on Sunday.

Yes, this coverage of the probable cause hearing is a treasure trove of information, finally! The article will be updated after hearing resumes. Was suppose to resume at 2:30 EST but haven't seen anything yet by reporter tweeting the hearing. @BaileyWECT.

Mott stated that they were suppose to see each other that night but it didn't work out. All those calls between Bradley and Shannon were around the time that she entered the Hush bar and afterwards. Bradley claimed that Shannon was upset that Mott was not doing anything for her birthday.

Shannon last seen on video entering a bar called the "Husk" at 3pm on April 5th

She isn't seen leaving so she had to have left using side door.

Last call to Bradley was made by Shannon to Bradley 5pm on April 5th

Mott last spoke to Shannon at 7pm on April 5th. Claims that he and Shannon had tentative plans to hang out on Saturday night but that did not happen.

Bradley's phone stopped emitting signal night of April 5th to morning of April 6th.

17 calls made between Bradley and Shannon between April 1st and April 5th. Bradley did not try to call Shannon after April 5th.

Update on probable cause hearing for Bradley:

It is continued for Friday morning.

http://www.wwaytv3.com/2014/05/15/bradley-probable-cause-hearing-to-continue-friday-morning

'According to police, during interviews with them Bradley said he believed he was the last person to see Vannewkirk the night of April 5. He told detectives he picked her up downtown, but they say his story changed as to where exactly that was. They say Bradley claimed the last time he saw her was as they argued in his car on Delaney Ave. apparently about Bradley telling Vannewkirk he could treat her better than Mott could. Police say Bradley told them she jumped out of the car and ran off, but they say evidence shows at the time Bradley says they were on Delaney, he was actually returning to his home on Dawson Street.'

If judge does not agree that there is "probable cause" Bradley will be released. Probable cause hearings are used in lieu of convening a Grand Jury.

From the WECT article:

The investigator said the second time they interviewed Bradley the story changed, and he admitted that he, in fact, picked her up the night she went missing. That's when Bradley says the two got into a heated argument while driving around Greenfield Lake.

I wonder if divers have gone into the lake?

Wait! He lived in that apartment on Flint, near the medical mall, and on Dawson St...the same street as Elisha Tucker hung out on...and near his daughter or with his daughter.

Wonder if the Ford Focus was his daughter, Elisha's or Shannon's car? He was stopped in a Ford Focus but told the court he needed a public defender because he owned only a 1988 Chevy pickup truck.

We have Bradley's daughter living on Dawson blocks from the housing complex where Elisha lived. We have that location on Dawson being referred to as his house...but we know he was also staying at the apartment on Flint. The Flint apartment was where the woman lived below him talked about him changing his appearance, suitcase before his arrest on Shipyard/17th, very near Flint.
I am pretty certain Shannon didn't have a car because of her previous driving issues (previously discussed), I think she traveled by those wheeled stand up things...but it could have been his daughter's car. I doubt it was Elisha's.

One theory--if he was indeed preparing to flee, he may have been using his daughter's car to pick up stuff from his Flint apartment, thinking using her car would be safer because he probably feared his movements were being tracked. But they got him near Flint apartment anyway, either heading there or leaving.
As the DA said, this is a serious game of poker here--if the case is not strong enough, he will be released.

I noticed that as well. This is confusing. Now, in news articles Elisha's home has moved from Hillcrest housing project near Dawson St. in Wilmington to Leland, a town across the Cape Fear river in another county. :banghead:

:banghead: That lake has a lot of gators in it too.

It is Elisha's mom who lives in Leland, Elisha definitely lived in Hillcrest on Dawson.

WECT story updated about an hour ago with this interesting note:

Around 7 p.m./8 p.m. that night, both Vannewkirk's phone and Bradley's phone stopped sending signals which would reveal their location. The lead investigator said that meant the phones were either turned off, broken or the battery was taken out.

He said Bradley's phone started sending signals again around 7 a.m. Sunday morning.

The investigator also said that in a later interview, James Bradley admitted to cleaning his truck three times from Saturday, April 5 to the Wednesday of the following week.

Seems like a slam dunk to get the probable cause.

Her mother said she spoke to her around 7:00 PM http://www.wwaytv3.com/2014/04/08/police-join-search-for-missing-woman and today Mott said he spoke to her around 7:00 PM as well.

"Mott testified he last spoke with Vannewkirk around 7 p.m. on April 5.

He said that Vannewkirk told him she was looking forward to the next day when she was having lunch with her mother and also made plans to see Mott later that day.

Mott explained they tentatively had plans to hang out on Saturday night, but they did not end up working out. Mott said when he tried reaching out to Vannewkirk on Sunday, however, she never responded. He said it was not like Shannon to not show up."

I wonder if those calls came from the cell or a house phone or a payphone.

With this information it was a slam dunk for the judge to find probable cause IMO.
