I am hoping it is ok to share a link with you. I am assisting the family, along with others. We recently created a page on Facebook to try and keep Shannon's story out there. We keep hoping and praying she is found. If you visit the page, check the notes section. There is a general note with basic facts, and there is a list of news items with links.

I tried to address some questions I saw here, and clear up a misconception or two. Her Mother and family want to bring her home, even if it is only to properly bury her. Though some searches have been done, if you read our notes and notice the timelines... where else to search is a huge question.

All we ask of you, is that if you continue sleuthing, please remember her family has seen some of these posts. They are kind and gentle people and some of the word choices they have seen here towards others, including the suspect, are very hard for an 80 year old woman to deal with.

This is the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/shannonrippymissing

We may not reply here often. Myself or one of Shannon's family does see the messages sent to her new community page for or continued search. We will deleted and ban anyone being offensive for any reason. This is to protect her Mom and not have her grief compounded by others anger control lapses.

PS... a few things not covered on the page but might assist some of you...

Shannon was very private by nature, hence a lot of confusion on where exactly she was when she went missing that night. Some mentioned she may not want to worry her Mom about staying out at night when they spoke and knowing Shannon, that is most likely. That is why no one was 100% sure if she was home or out when she went missing, until police gathered information.

As for her legal trouble in the past, it does not apply. Shannon elected NOT to follow the film industry when it fled to Canada and instead stayed here in Wilmington to be near her Mom. She had no intentions of not being around for her mom. I do not know the specifics of her charges, but I can only guess and assume... from knowing her, that it was during a time of great stress and major cut in income. Again, I do not know the specifics. It could have even been related to a check for a client for all I know. It just does not matter. We all make mistakes.

On the 'argument', no one has verified if that was on the phone (her on again/off again) or a person. Shannon enjoyed a decent debate without any malice. I debated her often and it was always fun, but could have been seen as an argument by others. The argument needs to be taken out of the mix.

As one person here guessed, there is no shot of her leaving the last place she was seen, because there is no camera on the side exit and it is now assumed that is how she left. There is not enough video from around the region to totally construct movement and as both cells were turned off at 7. As the suspects phone did not run back on for 12 hours, he could have taken her as far as 6 hours away with ease.

I know we are grabbing at straws, but it looks like a lot of you take this seriously. I am hoping that one of you has ideas or even happens a long a news item elsewhere that leads us to finding Shannon. You just never know. The more eyes on this, the better.

Thank you all for reading through my 2 posts and for checking the page for information.

Welcome WilmNCUser!
Thank you for posting. This must be so difficult for Shannon's family and friends. I pray there is a resolution with Shannon being brought back home, with Justice Served. God Bless!!

Thanks to you, WilmNCUser, for sharing what you have with us. Yes, we are serious about justice on this forum. Many of us have been on this forum to support each other, to learn together, and most of all to seek justice for those who no longer can do it themselves. There are some pretty bright minds here in Websleuths, and some tender hearts. There are certain rules which are enforced having to do with no bashing of the victim or the victim's family; we cannot use the names or pics of children -- unless the child is a victim; and we must use a sense of fair play, no snark, etc., etc. There are a fair number of these rules -- TOS Terms of Service, and they are meant such that this forum is a justice-seeking entity, with a sense of decency, common sense, and fair play.

We welcome you, WilmNCUser, :welcome: and we are hoping for the best for Shannon and her family, and if justice becomes a part of this, we will do our best to support those who work for it.

We hope soon. This has been particularly difficult for her Mom. They spoke almost every single day and sometimes up to 4 or 5 times a day.

Thank you for that. We are going to do all we can to keep Shannon's name and face out there in hopes someone remembers something, or someone sees anything that helps... and most of all, to keep pressure on the suspect and his lawyers to know we will not go quietly. Keeping pressure on to find Shannon is our mission.

Bumping for Shannon. Sure has been quite in local media.

Her missing page on FB posted that in 3 days, she would be missing 5 months. How sad.

Hi,...I'm someone fairly new to WS that has been following several threads. Sorry if it seems like I'm just barging in.
Something that bothers me a lot is that men like Bradley, who seems to have looks on his side, and maybe some charm and charisma, are never without female company. This man has murdered and done time in prison for a 1988 murder of an 8 yr. old...and was only paroled last February!
In a perfect world, womens' creep-o-meters would shriek in his presence, and such a man would live out his entire life alone.
I am not victim blaming, just sharing my wishful thinking.

http://portcitydaily.com/2014/09/02/man-indicted-in-murder-of-missing-wilmington-woman/

A judge previously determined there was “more than enough probable cause” for the State to proceed with its case against James Opelton Bradley, charged with the first-degree murder of Shannon Rippy Vannewkirk.

Today, a New Hanover County grand jury agreed as they returned a true bill of indictment against Bradley for the murder of Rippy, who had been missing since April and presumed dead, according to a New Hanover County clerk of superior court.

I believe his boss knew about his record and hired him anyway. Don't know if Shannon knew he was a killer. I wish she had never met him!

Does anyone know if an astrology thread has been created for Shannon?

I spoke to a friend of hers today. He said there was nothing new. Then showed me a rubber bracelet she gave him the last time he saw her. Said he hasn't taken it off and he hopes they find her before it breaks. Made me sad. :(

Makes me sad, too, zj. Poor guy. How many others are feeling the way he is? The way folks talked about her made it sound like she was a lot of fun, a neat-o individual, and a good person. Will she ever be found? Or will it be that part of her skeleton is found by hunters or fishermen or kids playing hide & seek or a developer digging out an area for a basement to build a new house? I feel sure her family is beyond still hoping that she took off on a whimsy or just to get away for a while -- she would have called weeks before now. I'm so sorry to say we have lost another one, but I think, as most of us do, that we've lost her, probably to violence and selfishness. Too much time, too much time. No evidence to prove anything, or that points to anyone or that points to where to go next, I'm guessing. So sorry for the negatory, but that's the way it looks. Hoping I'm way wrong...

I think they are pretty sure James Bradley did it. Maybe he will give up where she is for no death penalty. There is speculation that her body has been almost completely destroyed.

The friend I was speaking of lives near where JB buried the other body. Friend was questioned in her disappearance because he had spoken to her that day. They only questioned him one time. He called them first to tell the police last time he talked to her to help with the search.

It makes me wonder if there were anymore that JB killed.

Yes, Bradley looks very likely for this one -- and yes, maybe others. And I'm hoping he will exchange a confession and a body location for them not including the DP. I guess he knows he can just take his time... Makes me wanna scream.

This makes sense.......
But I wonder if Shannon was taken from her home, wouldn't that make her home a crime scene?
With her brother cleaning out the apartment, maybe LE knows that whatever happened, did not happen at her apartment, perhaps?
Maybe there is footage of her leaving the bar with someone else, and there is
no video of her coming back to the apartment? Or maybe her cell phone pinged elsewhere, and she left the apartment unharmed??
IMOO.
But if her family cannot afford to pay her rent, someone has to be responsible and get her stuff moved to a secure place, and keep her debt to a minimum. The brother has to, as mom sounds a bit a too elderly to do that type of work. Surely, friends are helping him, too.
I do not believe she disappeared from her house. 7pm sounds like the starting time for a date. And if she is that socially active, she probably just met him out somewhere.
