Silence punctuates brother's plea to his missing sister
bilde

Shawn Dayton made several visits in the past year to a plot of land in Hampstead. Sometimes he is with others. Always, he carries a probe he fashioned out of a steel rod. Dayton walks the length of the 15-acre property off of Hoover Road, repeatedly pushing the metal pole into the earth and pulling it back out. He's looking for any resistance.

It's a primitive effort on Dayton's part, he admits, but somebody has to find his sister. Police discovered another body buried there. Maybe he will have similar success.

Sunday marks one year since Dayton's sister Shannon Rippy VanNewkirk was last seen leaving a downtown bar.

So many people -- folks who have never met her, like us WS'ers -- still care & want her to be found. Every day that passes makes it less likely that she will be found, IMO. Why won't the one(s) who know(s) tell where she can be found? This is just so darn sad.

It's simply amazing to me that he is charged with murder of a woman whose body has not been found and not charged with murder for the woman's whose body has been found, ie., Elisha Marie Tucker. He was associated with both women. Tucker's body was found during the search for Shannon Rippy's body in a area that Rippy and Bradley had worked.

Such a bizarre case - I can't believe nothing has changed in all this time and it's still going to trial.

  • #394
Since they're moving forward, I think we can assume that they found a significant amount of Shannon's blood in his car or home and that they can place them together. He'll either deny it forever or come clean after sentencing. Let's hope for the latter.

...that 8-year-old Alisa Ivy Gibson was beaten and strangled before her body was left in a dumpster and found days later in a landfill.

Bradley, who was 25 at the time of Gibson’s death, was convicted of first-degree murder on Jan. 22, 1990.

He was released from prison on Feb. 11, 2013...

It's outrageous that he was even out of prison after what he did to that little girl! He should have gotten death for that or at least LWOP!

Here's the docket for Bradley now -- All that is listed for him on this date is the M1st charge.

Looks like something is scheduled for 07/13/15.

In the article above, there is some info on how the previous M-1st conviction of Bradley was handled back then. NC law for Murder in the First Degree has since been revised such that M-1st is indeed LWOP or death unless the defendant was less than 18 y/o at the time of the commission of the crime.

He was released from prison on Feb. 11, 2013, under the Fair Sentencing Law, which governed sentencing and parole in North Carolina from July 1, 1981, until Sept. 30, 1994, according to the N.C. Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission. On Oct. 1, 1994, The Structured Sentencing Act took effect in North Carolina, eliminating parole as it previously existed under the Fair Sentencing Law guidelines.

From September:

http://www.starnewsonline.com/article/20150916/ARTICLES/150919775

During a hearing Tuesday in New Hanover County Superior Court, deadlines were set for when the state must turn over discovery to the defense and a trial date of March 21 was set...

There was also some discussion on whether information in the Tucker case could be brought before a jury in the VanNewkirk case. A decision in that matter was reserved for a later date, Miller said.

Mother of Shannon Rippy Vannewkirk: "What did he do with her?"

http://www.wect.com/story/31650678/mother-of-shannon-rippy-vannewkirk-what-did-he-do-with-her

This month marks two years since Shannon Rippy Vannewkirk disappeared. She was last seen at a downtown Wilmington bar on April 5, 2014, the day before her birthday. Police say her killer is behind bars, but they still have yet to find Vannewkirk's body.

For the first time in two years, Bobbie Lewis is hearing her daughter's voice, in a voice mail from Shannon Rippy Vannewkirk.

"I hate this," Lewis says, covering her face. "I can't believe it's two years she's gone. It's just always there. Wondering all the time. Where is she? What did he do with her?"

Bradley is scheduled to be back in court for a hearing April 18. New Hanover County District Attorney Ben David, says the hearing will determine whether Tucker's killing is admissible in the murder trial for Vannewkirk. David says he does not plan to charge Bradley with Tucker's murder at this time.

Is the problem with her being missing two counties? The other woman this guy killed was found in Pender. She's missing from New Hanover. They border each other. I have to go back and look if the SBI is involved.
