A Wilmington woman testified Tuesday in a New Hanover County courtroom that she would often get money from accused killer James Opelton Bradley, and the first time she met him he was accompanied by a woman police later found dead...

In a pretrial hearing this week the state is asking a judge to allow Bradley's murder jury to hear about his murder conviction for the 1988 killing of his 8-year-old stepdaughter Ivy Gipson and the discovery of Tucker's body...

Prosecutors believe the three killings show a common plan and that Bradley has not helped police find Van Newkirk's body because he did that in Gipson's killing and spent two decades in prison.

FRom above link...

"The ADA says police searched Greenfield Lake, the area near Bradley’s home, Carolina Beach Road, and River Road and didn’t find anything. But while searching that property in Hampstead, police found Tucker’s body in four trash bags."

The ADA says Van Newkirk died the same way.

OMG this makes my imagination go crazy. Was Elisha dismembered? Was Shannon?

I attended jury selection. Thankfully I was not chosen. Her Mom is the most precious woman I have ever seen.

It is going to be a tough case. I have been thinking of those selected nonstop.

Jurors hear Van Newkirk never found, discovery of 2nd Wilmington woman's body
A jury in New Hanover County on Wednesday learned the victim in their murder trial has never been found.

Wednesday was day four of the state’s case against James Opelton Bradley of Wilmington, a convicted child killer charged in the presumed death of his missing co-worker Shannon Rippy Van Newkirk. The 53-year-old Wilmington woman was last seen April 5, 2014, walking into a downtown bar. When she failed to show up the next day for a brunch with her mother, her family reported her missing.

Per the Star News, the state has rested it's case. The defense will make one more statement before the jury begins deliberations.

Ya know the thing about JOB from pics at the trial? He is a nice looking man. He doesn't look like a murderer and possible serial killer.

Anyway, I am wondering about why the state decided to try him for Shannon's murder first. Is there a stradegy? Do they think if they get a conviction on him for Shannon's murder that he might give up her body's location when it comes time for the trial for Elisha's murder?

I too am very surprised that he is being tried first for the missing body. It's a bit confusing because if there is a guilty verdict, there is almost no incentive for him to reveal the location of her body because he is most likely going to be found guilty for Tucker's murder with a body. Scratching my head over this one.

I didn't realize this trial was happening...Thanks for posting about it. I used to visit Wilmington quite often and was following this case at first, but it had slipped my mind about the trial. How could somebody that killed an 8 year old be out and about anyway?
