On my Nook so can't quote, BUT.....

DT asking dentist if he compared bite marks with any other suspects? WERE there ever any other suspects? What a stupid, grasping at straws question!

And what's this about JR having a job? Did he leave Teghan alone to go to work? Did he tie her up? Drug her? I mean, wouldn't you think grandma would have at least taken a peek in the shed when he left, knowing Teghan was inside at some point?

I tell you what, if Teghan's mom and JR's grandparents are not appropriately charged and punished for her death, it will be like abusing her all over again IMO.

I am so angry, so very angry, that I just shake.

I hope he did drug her and she wasn't conscious for any of it.

Flutterby I believe it was reported that the day Teghan's mother left, the monster purchased a hasp at Home Depot. Presumably this was to keep Teghan locked in, and his grandparents out, of the shed.

sick ******

I remember the hasp, but even just to go stand outside the shed and listen while he was gone. I highly doubt that she never did this, not after finding out he was alone with Teghan in the shed. Where did she think Teghan was going to the bathroom? I kind of don't believe grandma is being honest. I kind of think she had to have seen/heard/smelled/known more than she wants to admit.

I guess that it doesn't surprise me that someone would bite a 4 year old 63 times, and it doesn't surprise me that a mother would leave her 4 year old to be brutalized until she died, but it shocks the hell out of me that a grandmother would stand around clasping her hands while it was all going down on her property.

I am aware of how bizarre that statement sounds. I think I need a break from here.

Ha! His saying that his g-parents would watch her while he's at work -- This ~man~ is not demented legally in my IANAL's opinion. He knows that leaving her by herself is not good. "Dad" is devious and scheming. He knows what's right and what's wrong -- that says sanity to me, in the
M'Naughten description anyway, which in part is:

"The M'Naghten rule is a test for criminal insanity. Under the M'Naghten rule, a criminal defendant is not guilty by reason of insanity if, at the time of the alleged criminal act, the defendant was so deranged that she did not know the nature or quality of her actions or, if she knew the nature and quality of her actions, she was so deranged that she did not know that what she was doing was wrong." (from: http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/M'Naghten+Rule)

-- and I know his defense is NOT "NG by reason of insanity," but if they try to say prior abuse affected his mentality, or that he was "mentally challenged" or whatever, I say (who am I, that's so) HOGWASH and desperation and "Is that all you got??"

No sir, no way, no how. He's just evil. And we put those people in prison and some of them get a needle-assisted nap. Grrrr.

Please excuse the mini-rant. I feel a little better now...

BBM I completely agree.

ETA My guess is she has been advised by legal counsel not to make self-incriminating statements.

We're all in this cruel nightmare together, Flutterby, and we're all way beyond bizarre, IMO. We all take walks or scream or whatever, from time to time. Like the rest of us, you're not doing it for you, you're doing it for her. GB you for it.

Maybe the ones who should have cared will see justice, too. Hope it happens.

Excellent point, La Louve.

The comments of the WS members I'm reading are EXACTLY why I believe that this (and other cases similar!) SHOULD be in mainstream media! Yes, the first responders & medical-legal community ARE aware of these nightmares, heck we get to be directly involved in the aftermath BUT the members of ANY community are NOT, they often believe that violent behavior against/toward children & the defenseless is a rare occurrence!

SPEAK UP....each of us CAN make a difference, not every "intervention" cost $$$, sometimes it's just a word of encouragement, of understanding, an offer of help & a smile.

And avoid the infamous blanket blaming of parts of those agencies TRYING to assist to make life better (I'm thinking of JVM & her harping on up-rooting ANY & ALL DSS/DFS/DCPS).

Some of you will recognize the term "root cause analysis".....how about that behavior linked with a surgical extraction of the cause & a "hard-pack" solution to close the hole!

I'm hoping the monster's grandmother may have perjured herself and she can at least be charged with that, if nothing else.

No worries! I didn't know I was showing as a newbie. I have been following along this site for years, but didn't officially join until last year.

I have been following along with everyone, but haven't commented bc I will know I will get kicked out! Everyone involved with this case, other than Teghan, makes me sick. There are no words for the sorrow I feel when I think about what she went through - and not just with *shudder* JR, but her whole life... Clearly her mother never cared about her much, "dad" obviously didn't either - being in jail (instead of being a law abiding citizen so he could, you know, BE A FATHER TO HIS DAUGHTER), how could he care? - and also, I sadly doubt that this was Teghan's first time being abused.

It's just heartbreaking. I'm sorry so many people failed you, beautiful little Teghan. :(

It seems to me it would be well within a private citizen's 1st amendment rights to hang purple ribbons around town in a random manner, with no direct reference to little Teghan or the person putting them up. They could just mysteriously begin to appear.

RIP Sweet Teghan. Justice is coming.

I don't understand how purple ribbons would influence the jurors? I wasn't going to put her name on there, just hang them. But i don't want to cause a mistrial. My BFF and I are going to put them up after this monster is found guilty. I am going to attend trial Wednesday afternoon also.

Forensic dentist: Teghan Skiba had 66 bite marks covering body

According to DT:
"Out of anger, his attorneys say, he caused the injury that killed her.

That journal entry I linked to earlier stated that fighting/anger bites typically were quick bites that are less defined. Sadistic bites and ego-cannibalistic bites are "made slowly and produce a clearer pattern".

The fact that this forensic dentist could match his prints tooth for tooth on her poor little body (and for multiple wounds) tells me that he bit her and enjoyed causing the pain. He wasn't angry and "lost control" like his defense wants the jury to believe. He meant to do every single one.
This guy is a sadist through and through. I agree with the previous posters, he has more victims, be they animals or humans we may never know, but this wasn't the first time he inflicted this kind of pain on a living being.
We can only hope that it will be his very last. Sometimes I'm on the fence when it comes to the DP, but in this case I fully support this guy being sentenced to death.
I wish there were more research on this topic so that it could be used in court cases as infallible scientific reasoning.
