GUILTY NC - Teghan Skiba, 4, Smithfield, 19 July 2010 #5

Drat!! I've got to leave in a few minutes. I hope you all will keep this going for Teghan.

Short break then jury votes on pizza....

Judge requests no deliberations during break & dinner.

  • #203
Sounds like the foreperson is a male. And sounds like they will continue to deliberate after dinner. Ordering out for pizza.

  • #204
Jurors may have taken a vote and discovered they weren't all in agreement and they have some work to do. Thus, the ten minute break followed by dinner.

Somebody specifically asked to go outside, I'm guessing a smoke break. :moo: but I think they may be in agreement on the issues, hence requesting dinner and continuing to fill out that long jury form. Of course that's just a guess on my part though. It didn't sound like they were at odds with each other over something. Again, all :moo: Hoping for :jail: tonight for JR. Central prison, that is, and no more county jail. :seeya: Let's hope :tantrum: A nice strip search tonight :floorlaugh: and then :jail:

I have to admit, I do like this judges style. Hanging in at the courthouse well after quittin' time. Letting the jury continue deliberating after closing time. The trials I've watched in Wake County, they'd be shut down, courthouse close at closing time. JMO

This is just me thinking outloud... but I'm thinking if they were THAT far apart, since they do have a trip home, they would just go home and come back tomorrow... so I'm hopeful that they think they can knock this out tonight... I am sure they are all very ready to have this all over with.

Oh, dayam -- I grew up ~40 miles from there.

No body ID yet, Sampson County? I'm still basically county illiterate except for the few counties right around Wake. :blushing:

Yes, it sounded like they have to go through all those fifty something mitigating factors individually. That would take time, even if they are basically in agreement IMO. Just the paperwork, I mean. I'm hoping anyway. :please:

Deciding whether a person will live or die is a solemn undertaking.

It has just occurred to me that finding JR guilty was an easier decision for the jury than determining life or death. Clearly, they want to talk it out until there is nothing left to say.

That's my thought, too, Craztown -- it's encouraging...

The judge said they would stay "open" as long as the jury was willing to stay, so they're having dinner & will resume.

I'll be out for a couple of hours, so the rest of you can bet they'll have a verdict before I get back.

Indeed. It must be an incredibly taxing responsibility. The gods know I would be disqualified from serving on any DP case upon sight.

OT...
I dozed off during the defense's closing and my wireless mouse slipped out of my hand into the glass of water on the floor beside my chair. So, discovered that mouses don't work after they have been submerged in water. Thankfully I was able to find my non-wireless one. Can't stand using my laptop's mousepad. Too slow. I blame that boring defense attorney for my mouse's demise.

Agree. I would have walked into the jury room, announced Death Penalty! Now, let's go get Margaritas!

I can't comprehend one thing that would make me think he does not deserve the dp. This is a clear case of what that penalty is used for.

Ot - Sugar Queen, I think of you and the little ones so often. How are they doing?

I would too. However he would incorporate your mouses demise as a mitigating circumstance
