GUILTY NC - Teghan Skiba, 4, Smithfield, 19 July 2010 #5

Hope we hear from prosecutors and jury. Members of the jury are going to need some big time counseling.

I got back about an hour ago -- as I said, there would be a verdict before I returned. Have watched the video (WRAL) when the verdict was said to be in, and watched it all, as y'all did. Ahhh, Justice.

I think the jurors, while having to try to deal with all of this that was in their laps, can sleep tonight knowing that they did what the Constitution of the United States says must be done -- fair trial, fair verdict, no strong-arm, no coercion, no threats before or after, and I hope each one of them is a bit proud of the masterful job the 12 + 4 of them did.

We saw justice as the framers of our Constitution, and those who have fought and died for it, wanted it done, my friends. God bless the USA.

God bless the judge, the jury, the defense, and the prosecution.

God bless the Skiba's and those who truly loved her.

God bless Teghan and may He hold her in the palm of His hand.

God bless us every one.

Lady Justice is standing proudly in Johnston County tonight!

(I get mushy when I cry and am emotional...)

:loveyou: I love you all -- we are family.:loveyou:

Thank goodness! I had no doubt he'd get the DP. Some crimes are so horrific there are no words. This one and the Petit family murders are 2 immediate examples. The depravity and sheer cruelty are more than my mind can handle. I never could have sat on this jury, that's for sure. I'd want him dead before opening statements were completed.

Here's the video of the sentencing: http://www.wral.com/news/video/13536133/

Thank You Jurors!!!!
Thank You.
Anyone or thing. That could torture a child like this, does not belong on this planet.
I am so glad that these jurors agreed.
Yes, there will be repeals.
But, while this monster lives out the rest of his life Everyone will learn what he did and what he has been convicted of.
His life as he now knows it... is over.
He made hour by hour decisions on how to and ways to torture this child.
FOR 10 days until her little body sucumbed. There was Nothing left of her when he took her to the hospital.
God Bless the nurse who wanted to tear his throat out and who bravely stopped him from running out of the hospital. We need more people like you, who will not only stand up to evil, but chase it's cowardly self down.

To All of the adults who looked away, ignored and therefore allowed this 10 day non-ending torture of this baby girl. I pray that your life forever more is haunted.

To Teghans Father. Who has chosen to ignore any and all of this about what was done to his child. You Sir, are dispicable, and a disgusting human being.
To Teghans birth mother who is now pregnant Again.
I, personally want you prosecuted for the torture and death of your daughter.
Your court room appearance was simply self serving.
I hope a judge throws the book at you.
And, I want to say.. No names mentioned.
To ALL of Teghan's relatives.
Especially her grandparents.
You screwed up. Big time. All of you. I just cannot cut any of you any slack.
If just One of you had looked for Tegan and her whereabouts, she might not have suffered the worst way to die ever.
10 days plus of pure terror and torture in the worst possible situation.
She was a baby.
Thank you jurors.

QUOTE=lonetraveler;10411995]Well, you have to think about how you would have felt if the monster had not gotten death, IMO that would be much worse.[/QUOTE]

Okay, discussion had. Unlike my discussion with the juror in the Brad Cooper trial, this one didn't focus much on the evidence. I spoke to that juror for 2 hours and could have easily spent another 10. Here, the evidence speaks for itself and there was never any doubt about who did this. I did find it interesting that the jurors were driven from Lillington to the court house every day. Pictures and testimony was difficult to see and listen too as we all know. The alternates were obviously not part of deliberations. They were kept in a separate room. They were actually not brought into court for the verdict (trial verdict, not sentencing), and that ticked them off. From his understanding, it took about 15-20 minutes to pick the foreman. And then, only 1 of the verdict forms were signed, so they had to go back and finish that. So the deliberations were really quick. They thought they would be released at that point, but obviously weren't until the jurors were set to deliberate on the sentence. He stayed for the verdict. So I have nothing to offer with regards to deliberations. He obviously agreed with all the verdicts.

He was incredibly impressed with the prosecutors in the case. He raved about their professionalism and how well prepared they were. He didn't care for the lead defense attorney, but thought the 2nd chair (the Jason Young) attorney was very smart.

It really wasn't a long conversation. He's really glad it is done now. Obviously nothing earth shattering or surprising here, but I was asked to share so I did.

Please encourage him to take advantage of the counseling offered.
I'm sure he's relieved right now it's over...but it's gonna get difficult in the weeks ahead.

The prosecutors did a fantastic job! Sometimes even with what seems to be a 'no-brainer' the prosecution fails to legally prove their case. These folks left no stone unturned and they served Teghan well.

The defense had a job to do and they did it as best they could. I doubt they liked their client or what he did - it was a day's work to them.

Heather Moore did a great job reporting and tweeting too and many thanks to all who tirelessly posted tweets on here!!

ncsu - thanks for the info and insight!!

I hate JR. I hate him. So help me, I am an atheist but this case makes me want to believe in hell.

What he did can make one question the existence of a god or wish for one.

Rest in peace sweatpea... beautiful, precious little girl. Oh my heart. :(

Okay, now that's funny. And I'm sitting here trying to figure out a way to prove it. How about this....tell me what is bothering you. Instead of listening and supporting you, I'll try to fix it for you. That should do it. :floorlaugh:
