GUILTY NC - Tim Hennis on trial in the '85 Eastburn murders, Fort Bragg

  • #481
This is what I was told by one of Tim's defense lawyers from that trial

He was being watched closely - guarded even - by defense team that feared he would run

Yes. It was obvious he didn't want to be there.

John is who I believe Cone saw that night. Why was he wearing cuffs

The jury also thought that John "The Walker" was the man Cone saw in the driveway.

Something else that has bothered me all these years, I wasn't even suppose to know about. There was a break in the trial when the judge's wife became I'll. While at work, one of my Co-workers who was following the trial on the daily news channel and newspapers asked me what I thought about a witness seeing Cone burying a knife in his backyard. I immediately reminded the Co-worker that I could not hear or discuss the case. The jury wasn't present during this testimony and it was ruled not to be allowed. I've always wanted to know more about this information.

Trial was main headlines everyday. It was moved to Wilmington due to publicity in Fayetteville. Defense won the move. Reporters lined the streets, everyone but jurors watch. Co-worker said Cone was seen burying the knife. I've followed everything I could find since trial. I'm actually mentioned in the "Innocent Victims" book and portrayed as a juror in the movie. Interviewed several times following the verdict. A lot of people, especially Captain Eastburn, very upset. His words to me after the verdict will forever haunt me. I've always worried that I let the murderer of two tiny girls and a mother, go free.
As you can see, I have a personal interest in the new evidence.

Is the March court time for a hearing for the appeal or has he won a new trial?

How would your coworker from Wilmington know about cone

Jury foreman and I agreed on verdict and it took the two of us to lead the other jurors to a unanimous verdict. The evidence presented did not prove beyond reasonable doubt that he was guilty.

Local news reports and newspaper accounts of what happened in court that day. 6 o'clock news. I'm going to try to go back to archives.

I also thought it possible that size 9 shoe prints could have been Cone going into the home after running into man in driveway.

Cone was never linked to the knife, nor was the knife ever linked to the case

Outside print very hard to determine, but size 9 was found in house
