“Sources tell NBC Charlotte that students were giving a presentation when the shooting occurred in a classroom. The two dead are reportedly two white males, but their ages and names have not yet been released.”

From what little information I've seen, it sounds like it may not have been random. I just hope this is the end of it.

“Students took to social media to share terrifying photos and videos as news spread of the mass shooting at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte campus. In addition, news stations shared pictures from the scene. You can see them throughout this article, but be aware that they are disturbing because of the extremely troubling nature of what unfolded.”

I’ve read that he was probably a former student, too.

A tweet in that article has a video that moved me. It shows the cops running towards the threat that the students are running from. I really dont think police officers get enough credit. As an ER nurse in a small town, I have a lot of interaction with law enforcement. I wish I could share all of the events I have witnessed with their compassion and selflessness. My town has no idea how blessed they are with the law enforcement, EMS, and medical personnel they have here. HIPAA sucks sometimes lol.

Victims identified: "
Dr. Philip Dubois, the chancellor of UNC Charlotte, said on WBT-AM radio that Ellis Parlier, 19 and Riley Howell, 21, were the students who died in the shooting Tuesday on the last day of classes. Both students were from North Carolina. Drew Pescaro, 19; Emily Haupt, 23; Sean Dehart, 20, and Rami Alramatin, 20, were the students wounded, Dubois told the station. Alramatin is from Saudi Arabia, while the other students are from North Carolina, Dubois said."

These shootings are so common that no one even comments on them.

America accepts this as a way of life?

Supposedly the suspect did not know the victims.

NBC Charlotte was on the scene when Terrell was escorted to CMPD headquarters. The suspect appeared to smile out our camera and then shouted, "I shot them." Nice. <modsnipped> What is going on in our culture that may be influencing these men to kill multiple people? Do these suspects actually believe they will get away with it? Do they think they will become heroes afterward? Most use AR-15s -why?

Mugshot and some quotes from the above link:

1. Trystan Terrell Is Autistic

Terrell’s father, Craig, wrote in a blog post in May 2016 that his son was diagnosed as being autistic at three years old. Craig Terrell said that when a nurse in a neurological doctor’s office asked him, “Has anyone ever mentioned the word autism to you?… Our lives got more complicated.” He went on to discuss the difficulty of researching autism online as the family was living in a rural part of Texas with only dial-up AOL internet access. Craig Terrell added that the nurse told him that there would be no follow-up appointment but that family just needed research autism.

...

2. Trystan Terrell Dropped Out of UNCC This Semester

WCNC reports that Trystan Terrell dropped out of the University of North Carolina-Charlotte this past semester. Terrell enrolled in the school in the fall of 2018.

...

Multiple local stations aired footage of Terrell being brought into Charlotte-Mecklenburg jail shortly after his arrest. The suspect could be seen grinning while yelling, “I shot them,” at the assembled media. UNCC Police Jeff Chief Baker told reporters that Terrell was not on “their radar” prior to the shooting. Chief Baker added that “Our officers’ actions saved lives.”

Police said Terrell was armed with a handgun. It is not clear how he obtained the weapon.

That was touching to read. I am currently in the BLET program (basic law enforcement training) at my local community college. I'll be a police officer this December. I can't wait to take care of my community.

College mass shooter spared death penalty in North Carolina

September 20, 2019

"Sept 20 (Reuters) - A gunman who killed two university students and wounded four in a mass shooting in North Carolina in April pleaded guilty to murder in a Charlotte court on Thursday, in a deal sparing him the death penalty, the Charlotte Observer and ABC News reported.

The plea to two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder by Trystan Andrew Terrell, 22, a college drop out from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, angered some relatives of the victims, the Charlotte Observer and other media reported.

Julie Parlier, the tearful mother of one of the two deceased UNC Charlotte students, objected to the plea deal and told the court, "May he rot in hell."

She said that he should have shot himself instead of her son, Ellis Parlier, 19, and the others in a UNC Charlotte classroom, the newspaper reported....

Defense attorney Michael Kabakoff, who represented Terrell, told the court that his client suffered from developmental disabilities and other ailments.

"He's not the worst of the worst," he said, arguing for his client's life, the Observer reported.

Terrell told the court, "If I could go back in time, I would back out of it," news media reported. "I am so sorry. I made a mistake."

Terrell was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole by Mecklenburg Superior Court Judge Robert Bell, media reported."
