OMG - I have no idea if this is true but I just read in the comments from the ABCNEWS site that the ex-husband to the stepmother commented on another site that the stepmother was very abusive toward the little girl and that he and 3 other people had reported it to CPS with no results.

Looks like her past is coming out to haunt her all over the internet now.

Isn't there supposed to be another presser at 3pmEST?

Former neighbor Kayla Rotenberry said she and her fiance were good friends with the Bakers when they lived in the nearby town of Sawmills, and saw Zahra often. The couple was skeptical of the girl's stepmother, in part because she claimed to write songs for musician and "American Idol" finalist Chris Daughtry, and told other far-fetched stories, Rotenberry said.

"We just got to the point where we didn't believe her. We knew they were lies," said Rotenberry, 23.

The stepmother also had a short temper, Rotenberry said.

"She wasn't as nice as she seemed," she said. <snipped>

Oh, make it not be so. :(

They have pit bulls chained in the backyard.

Are the pit bulls there because it is on the property of a business? Or do they belong to the family?

Questions: Does the family live in a house that is behind a tire business? Is the father or stepmother employed at the business? Is the house rented from the business owner?

The girl's stepmother told her husband she last saw Zahra sleeping in her bed around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, about 2 1/2 hours before the fire was reported. Adam Baker said he was panicked after the fire, but didn't check on his daughter.

And he hadn't seen his daughter since Thursday night, yet after a fire in the yard, still doesn't check in on her, goes out later in the morning, does yard work and still doesn't check in on her...........:waitasec: Seems very strange and as if he's trying to distance himself through ignorance. MOO

What channel is the 3pm presser? WSOC is the one I am watching.

I live just a couple miles from here and this has just sickened our family... Both the situation and the inconsistencies with the stories.

Yes, it's true. I have no proof that he is the ex-husband of the stepmother, but I absolutely believe he is. He posted on both CNN and the Hickory Daily Record last night.

He is torn up over this and did indeed say that he (and even the woman's own biological daughter, as well) had made multiple reports to DSS in hopes Zahra would be removed. He said "hardly anything" was done by DSS.

I'm keeping an eye out for him if he returns since I would like to invite him to visit our site if he wants to. I think it would help him to see all the concern for Zahra here.

Can't believe they waited an hour and half to report her missing after not checking on her for 12 hours. :banghead::furious: IMHO.

BTW, if it we a stranger abduction we are very close to Interstate 40 and she could be anywhere by now. :(

The house is directly behind a Clark Tire... Don't know anything about the father and stepmother's employment however.

Welcome Dragonfly....since you are close is the 21 21st Ave NW the right one? TIA.

OK...it is then.........Thanks!

When I became a step-mom, my ex paid little attention to my parenting of his kids. In retrospect, I'm really starting to think this may be quite common. Men tend to believe women are natural mothers and caregivers. I do feel that is the way women are usually wired, while men are usually wired to be providers. Unfortunately, we can't generalize. Men who are the primary custody parents need to keep their thumb on the pulse of what is happening with step-moms and their kids. I am not trying to attack step-moms - I was a loving and caring step-mother for years. I'm stating this because of the Kyron Horman case and now this one. Men, please pay attention!

Kimster, I know what you are saying. I became a SM when I was only 20 years old. I had a knack for 'mothering' but don't for a minute imagine that I did everything right or always made the right decisions. I can say that my heart was in the right place and my SD has honored my role in her life in adulthood, for which I am grateful.

Yet, my 'ex' left all caretaking to me during her upbringing and summer visits. So, how would he have known what went on in the household during his absence. Luckily for me I loved her dearly and her mom and I had a good rapport.

This case is beginning to sound more and more like the case last summer, (IIRC) of the young boy who was tied to a tree (in NC) by his stepmom who had met 'Dad' on the internet and was punishing the boy by tying him to a tree during massive wildfires as punishment for his 'bad' behavior. She was apparently a 'religious soul'!

I agree, Men please pay attention! There is a reason that women you meet on the internet can be predators. If they cannot connect to a human being in the real world, do not be fooled by cyber flirting jezabels and gold diggers. People can be anyone they wish to be in the cyber world.

This is all MOO!

Hoping and praying that little Zahra is found and that her family has peace and comfort.
