OMG! in the video interview.... the woman who took out the complaint on Elesa said that on FRIDAY Elesa called her to ask her to drop the charges!!!! (she said that was the first that she heard they had moved) and than Zahra was reported missing the next day!

it seems step mom knew her other charges were going to be looked into soon!

I feel so helpless. Something has to be done to save our children from abuse.

Have a (soft) commercial shown on lets say a cartoon network where children learn that they can call if they are being abused. That they can get help right away by just calling 911.

Ok presser at 1130 ......TY

I have been just reading but wanted to jump in and say what great idea......

SO as of Christmas of last year every one sat around talking about the abuse and called social services. Nothing was done. Z was home schooled. No one saw her and um...

Yes, I realize where the case is taking place. But to generalize that NC DSS is broken is too small a statement, the entire country's DSS system is broken. It's not just the kids in NC that are being failed, it is ALL children!

Parents bear the brunt of the blame in most all these situations. Especially the 2 prominent cases you have here in NC. There is no way I would tolerate ANYONE being abusive to my child. DSS would never need to get involved becasue I will look after my own child. Something the parents of Shaniya and Zahra both failed to do.

Again, NC DSS is broken.

Would it be at any value to THIS case if I named all other 49 states, their statistics, and provided links to their stories???

We are talking about NC. Abuse in THIS case was reported to NC DSS.
NC DSS seems to have dropped the ball in THIS case.

in the video (8 min interview) with the family member... she also says that she filed charges on Adam for trying to run her family off the road with his car.

As for the threats she said that Elesa brandished a TAZER at her and said she was going to kill her whole family and that she knew where they lived.

If you google NC DSS failures, a ton of stories of deaths by child abuse come up. Child abuse that was reported and the children were left in the home. Then, the children come up missing, dead.
NC DSS is broken.

Yes. This is well known. But nobody seems to want to fix it.

Right, but I think what curve is saying is that we don't have enough information to make such a bold statement. And if curve isn't saying it, then I am. JMO.

~above BBM~

IMO, this was probably the reason for Zahra being pulled out of public school. If the teacher saw this, she should have reported any bruising on Z to the school social worker. Teachers are bound by the duty to protect the children when there are visible signs of abuse.

I second this.
I know personally that this should of been done as a legal precaution, and again... the school failed a child.

On my phone and can not watch videos. Thanks so much for recapping them and bringing them here.

Poor Zahra.

Again, ALL DSS agencies are broken. Please provide a link to DSS investigating this child. The only thing we have right now is the word of some people we know nothing about. Perhaps they did "drop the ball", but at this point we don't know that. We do know that her own Father "dropped the ball", by dragging her into such a situation. Just as Shaniya's Father "dropped the ball" by sending her to live in horrid conditions that he KNEW about. DSS is not the be all end all when it comes to keeping kids safe.

The more that comes out ...wow! Sounds like the Bakers were really out of control people.

I do!
I've researched it.

It's broken. They are in the middle of an investigation now where they purposely hid info from LE in another case where the death of a child occured.

JMO

Back to Zahra...
I can't wait to find out about her DSS file.

Thanks, teh. Why would they take a Chinese take out menu?

Most likely to call or visit the take out place and see if any employees in there ever saw Zahra come in with her parents and when the last time that was. If it's a place they often ordered take out from, police were probably thinking maybe Zahra went with them a time or two.

I just wish they could find someone that has seen her recently! If she's been gone two months this could take forever to solve!
