I did a search for pink evidence markers and this thread (Crime scene photos #2 - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community) came up with regard to the Caylee Anthony case. Apparently there were lots of pink flags placed where she was found as well and someone speculated that they were markers for bones.

Can anyone confirm that LE uses different color markers there to distinguish between different types of evidence or whether they just use one color marker and pink just happens to stand out well?

I just described the circumstances to my DS-I-L who is an LAPD officer. He said he uses one color, the marker is numbered, logged electronically and photographed - he also said when the detectives or CSI come to the scene, he has personally only ever seen one color used.

i imagine the one color marker flags are easier to see and count and not get confused if 2 things are found in the same place (ie: bones - orange, clothing - pink) the whole KISS method (keep it simple stupid)

scroll down until you see the blue field called "tags". on the right hand side you click edit tags and then you can add key words that have been used in this thread to help find specific posts. we will want them if and when anyone comes to trial!

Nah, dont. Easy oversight. We're all so :crazy: now, and waiting on tenterhooks (wth is a tenterhook anyway, and why are we waiting on them?) it's easy to overlook something like that.

i think it's just a way of remembering what was said in this thread. if you want a more detailed search (ie: all posts that have the word "bag" in them on this thread you could do a search. someone with a lot more experience than i can explain better. but i was just hoping people would "edit tags" and add all of the keywords from this thread they can remember (before it gets closed).

Evidence flags come in many different colors and sometimes different agencies have different meanings for a specific color. So while pink may mean one thing to one LE, it may mean something else to another.

I'll take a stab at the coil thing based on searches and training. I believe it is a probe used when you think something may be buried deeper in the ground. You twist it down as far as you want to go then withdraw and it will bring back up hair, material, etc. also decomp smell attached. If nothing found, it's clean, you move over and do it again until you have cleared the area.

I tried to find a picture but couldn't. I really believe this is what the LE was doing. Hope this helps.

Huh...and I have spent 45 years thinking the word was 'tenderhooks'!! LOL
