okay.. so I want to revisit these hearing aids that were left behind... and graciously donated to Zahra at the CMS on May 11th.

-she was enrolled in a school last spring. A school that had a teacher there that notified her parents of a free hearing aid giveaway on 11 May 2010. For some reason EB took her there to get them and little Zahra was fitted for them.

~she is fitted for them 6 months ago

-JUNE, JULY, AUGUST pass by... in these months AB and EB both have problems with extended family and charges filed against them... and they move YET AGAIN. One of EB's daughters state to the media that this is the way that EB rolls.. that she herself has moved over and over thru the course of her own life. One family member, BB, states that she did not even know that the family had moved until the day of zahra's vanishing when EB tried to call her to ask to drop charges

-they move to the new house and no one even notices that they have a child. ((neighbor statements previously linked)).

-after she is reported missing the family says that she was currently being "homeschooled" (which is IMHOO a very shabby reason/cover up for why she was not enrolled in a school near the new home address.

so back to the hearing aids

I do not, in my educated opinion, think that this child wore these assistive devices much between the time she received them (May 11-end of the last school year) and up to this point. IMHOO I do not see EB trying to help her hear... let alone do anything else.

We do not yet know exactly WHERE in the bedroom the hearing aids were found but I am sure they were not something that EB ensured that she wore every day. I bet we will find out in days to come that they were found in a box... not next to the bed like Zahra was ready to wake up and put them in her beautiful, precious ears.

I am further sure that we will find out, once this goes to trial, that perhaps free follow up was offered from the company/audiologist that donated the hearing aids and that follow up visits were also provided for and that zahra never showed up. again this is just my opinion.

bottom line... imhoo... this is a child that was grossly neglected from the time she left Australia. Who knows why EB decided to go for those free hearing aids.... limelite? paint her as a good mom? either way... she was NOT imhoo a good mother to zahra... she needs to own up to this and do what is right.

sorry for the long post... my main point I was trying to make is that the leaving behind of the aids does not mean much to me at all because I bet she wasn't using them much up to the point where someone did the unspeakable to this vibrant, beautiful, sparkling child.

moo

Terrific post! The only thing the hearing aids being left behind means to me is that someone overlooked them during the clean up. Much easier to overlook than the leg because 1). it was smaller and 2). used less frequently (imo).

I, too think they were 'overlooked' in the cleanup mountian kittie kat.... I think they were overlooked because they were not frequently used...

MOO at this point

eta: not frequently used meaning not sitting by the side of the bed like a retainer case, etc...

again moo...

I just do not see EB being the one who made sure Zahra was able to hear her S and F sounds let alone play with other children, eat, go to the bathroom, and all the other things that mother's should do with their chldren (and I know I have not named all the 'should do' things....)

I was just kind of creeped out by the skulls the Bakers had decorating their front railing...

OT, but yesterday as Hubby and I pulled up the drive I was struck by the 2 large skeletons we have sitting on our porch rail. It's halloween...skeletons as decor aren't at all unusual this time of year, but I couldn't help thinking of those skulls on EB's porch rails and thinking how sinister my own decor might appear if my own home were to become a crime scene. It's odd the commonplace things that stand out to you, and seem to have some deeper meaning, when dealing with people and situations like this.

So there was burnt samples inside the Tahoe?

The Tahoe being found stinking of gas with burn material inside reminds me of a case I saw recently. A man killed a woman, put her in her car, doused the inside with gas and ran. The car was caught on video from a business nearby. It showed the fire inside got really bright, almost like an explosion but it quickly went out. He did not leave a window cracked or a door open which robbed the fire of oxygen so it only lasted a few seconds.

It was found by LE who noticed a strong smell of gas and a small amount of burn material inside. The car was pretty much intact. Even though it was doused with gas, the fire used the little amount of oxygen and quickly went out.

So the way the Tahoe was found makes me think it's possible they tried to burn it as well but didn't leave a window open to feed the fire and it never fully went off.

Maybe then they decided to put the note inside (take out whatever they where trying to burn) and leave the door open so LE would find it. If the dogs hit on the Tahoe for decomp that gives me an even clearer picture of what they where trying to burn.

I couldn't figure out how/why the Tahoe would be 'doused' with gas and yet not actually set on fire. Or why there would be burned material in the vehicle but the vehicle hadn't been fully engulfed when gas had been poured in it.

I didn't give the science of it much thought. But your analysis makes so much sense! I'd been perplexed by the sloppy set up for the harebrained kidnapping story. Your post explains the scene the first responders and detectives found and makes the actions of the prepatrators more rational.

Digital hearing aids run about $5,000.
Maybe they knew this and thought they could sell them.
I really wonder if AB?EB bought new batteries when needed.
Batteries last about 10 days.
My hubby has to wear them.

snipped from Nurse: When she asked for a bicycle, stepmother Elisa Baker exacted a heavy price. What happened???? I missed this!

I believe getting the hearing aids in the first place was due to the school setting it up and just for 'show'. Looking back now, to see EB with Zahra when she received them, and EB seeming to be the doting parent is very upsetting. Those who were there then are probably now in a state of disbelief. MOO

Do the hearing aids have resale value?? I have no clue, that's why I'm asking. Would EB & AB be able to make money off the hearing aids?? :waitasec::waitasec: JMO

snipped from nurse:
her son had remarried and they had taken off overseas quite abruptly and she didn’t have any idea exactly where they were.”

1. why abruptly move overseas?
2. why would a son/mother not keep in contact?

exactly.. all for show...

and then they move again... and not even one neighbor notices a child in the house.. nor does AB mention her in talking to neighbors over the fence.

I am ready for justice!

Couldn't agree more, Nurse. My gut feeling is that the bulk of the responsibility for anything relating to Zarha was hoisted upon Zahra herself. If you asked these people what she ate for dinner, I doubt they'd have a clue unless they happened to pass by and casually notice whatever Zarha had in the bowl. And again, to me that speaks to something I think both EB and AB had in common, and what drew them to one another to begin with...they are both teenagers in grown-up bodies. Nothing is thought through beyond whatever impulses motivate them at any given moment, no responsibility is ever taken for anything that doesn't suit their whims of the moment. If EB was abusing Zarha, AB knew it and choose to sweep those thoughts right out of his mind because that kind of unpleasantness might ruin his good time and force him to take some sort of responsibility for something. Heaven forbid.

yes, digital ones can be reset by computer. The tubes replaced and new earpieces.
The VA told me when my husband dies the gvernment still owns them and I must give them back to be used again................
VA told us his cost over $5,000.

I fear you may be correct and IF so, how very sad.

Wow, that battery info is very interesting. I had no idea. I'd be willing to bet those hearing aids, when recovered by police, had dead batteries. And not just recently dead batteries, but long dead batteries.

We haven't heard from AB's boss, but it would be interesting to know what he knew about Zahra. As far as the hearing aids, I am not sure where it came from but thought it was said they were found in the hallway. If true, a weird place for them to be. Were they on the floor? idk

But why did they go at all?

School initiates Zahra receiving the free hearing aids. If EB had declined wouldn't it have raised a few more red flags? MOO
