``I'm upset. The facts are disturbing. You saw the images, she is such a darling child,'' Gaither said.

A voice of reason.

Well, I do know that titanium is one of the hardest metals known and I seriously doubt that someone with knowledge of the capabilities of a wood chipper would try to send a prosthetic leg with titanium through it, but someone who isn't knowledgeable about titanium vs. a wood chipper, might would try.

And try enough to have to break 1 wood chipper and move to another wood chipper... and maybe break it enough to have LE break it apart. One may just toss a mangled prosthetic leg into a pond to get rid of it.

I will be extremely surprised if she was making meth. The chemicals used to make meth are highly toxic. Here, anytime LE finds a meth lab at a house, they call in Emergency Management and a hazmat crew. I can't imagine it would be any different in NC and we definitely would have heard about it by now. Plus, there was nothing mentioned about this in the SW.

I would, also. But it is common in the region, and emergency management is sometimes slow on the uptake. But I agree- it would be surprising.
I do think that people should know how common it is, and how easily it can be made. Probably a thought for another thread.

The police don't think Adam Baker is sincere is in his concern. This is huge and a public statement! Let's hope he is arrested soon.
I don't see how he couldn't know what was going on or have knowledge of what happened to her, if she was gone before when he says he last saw her Thursday. Also, searching where he kept work equipment appears LE does believe he knew.......MOO

That was the sheriff of Burke County (where they're searching) who said that last night, but I am sure the police chief in Catawba County (Hickory) feels exactly the same!

So here's something I just thought of -- if Zahra is found in Burke County, would murder charges be brought there if they don't know where she was actually killed...or would the charges be brought in the county in which the victim lived?

Gibby, Totally OT but I would love the recipe for dandelion wine! I heard tell my gramma used to make it in her youth but alas the recipe went with erh when she passed.

O/T: It may take a few days to find it... lol.. but I sure will send it to you!! :)

Wonder if he was out there "helping" yesterday and they asked about the pond, and Adam said, "No, no, no... no one goes near the pond. Nope." LE said hmm... no pond, ay?

several family members and aquaintances say they called cps

I wonder if they gave their names and contact info, or if some/all of these were anonymous calls. Anonymous calls are harder for CPS to aggressively follow up on, since anyone can make false reports just as a way of harassing somebody, without worrying about consequences since they didn't divulge their identities. Unfortunately, people with legal/drug problems of their own also often choose to make these calls anonymously, to avoid drawing LE attention to themselves.

I have only checked in a few times on this case. I made a vow that I would not follow another child case after the Haleigh Cummings' case but here I am. This little girl was living in my home state and I just can't ignore it. I too am furious at all the adults who witnessed abuse by this monster and did not act. Why? The father is beyond excuse. As soon as the LE are through with him he needs to join his "love of his life" in prison to await the needle. I have absolutely no tolerance for crimes against children and for a helpless child battling cancer, missing the lower half of her leg and lost hearing? I feel that a mandatory "death sentence" is appropriate here. I would hit the plunger on the IV myself.

This is just SICK!!! How in the hell could DSS let this happen! MY GOD. They should all be punished for not helping that baby.

Willen,
Social Services did visit the former residence.

After that the Bakers moved and would not let Zahra out of her bedroom except to eat.

Social Services did not know where they went.

They did not enroll her in school. Family members did not know they had moved. The current neighbor never saw her ever.

I'm sure there is always more that we all can do or could do.

But DSS did follow up on the reports - then the Bakers disappeared.
