This case was on ID Disappeared this afternoon today in Canada.

I was just over in his last known whereabouts today. I have to believe that justice is coming.

I have watched Zebb's Disappeared episode, but only followed his thread here on WS loosely.

Do we know what Jason Owens' possible/probable motive would have been to kill Zebb? I know Zebb was going to look at a car that night, but I don't think I had heard that he was actually carrying a large amount of cash on him to make a purchase or anything.

When dealing with forensic labs. Expect extensive waits. Lots of forensic evidence has to be processed. It may be well into 2016 before we hear anything conclusive.

I'm also curious about money Zebb may have had with him that night, it might be a stretch, but entirely possible he had several hundred dollars with him in hopes of being able to make a quick downpayment on a car if the opportunity arose.

Though, Owens seems obvious, I can't dismiss Misty and the bf either.

Rumor is the state is pushing for the death penalty in the Codd case in hopes of getting a confession for the Quinn murder.

Just watched this case on 'Disappeared'. I believe Zebb had money with him in case he wanted to buy the car or JO knew where to find it. That poor kid! JMO. I wonder how the 'page' Zebb received from his aunt's home correlated with the time he was with JO. Could JO have harmed Zebb and then gone to the aunt's home to make a call to throw investigators off? Or was it just coincidence? Would sure like to know if Zebb indeed called the aunt back. It's weird though that the aunt would report a break in and then deny she claimed that later. As you can see, I'm new to this case...

I loved BlkMtnGirl's speculation and analysis.

JO into following Zebb from work (they don't appear to even be with each other at the convenience store).
I thought Zebb's mom said they were friends or acquiantances, not strangers. If that's true and this scenario happened, they would have seen each other in the store and said hi. Maybe that's what happened, but it seems odd that JO would get close enough to Zebb to be recognized at some point before JO is ready to make his move. Did police say whether they appeared to be together or just saying hi in the store?

JO lies about the cellphone not working, so Zebb leaves to make the phone call because he thinks it's M with an emergency (you could put 111111 on your page number, which would indicate an emergency).
Regarding Zebb's reaction to the page, we only know this from JO. I could imagine Zebb reacting to a page from Aunt Ina b/c she was friends with Misty's mother. They used to have secret calls daily, but Zebb hadn't heard from Misty in days. He could have been eager to talk to anyone tied to her. JO's story goes that he waited beside the road while Zebb went to find a payphone. Why didn't JO follow him to the payphone? Why would he wait beside the road?

When Zebb calls, W answers instead and tells Zebb he's going to hurt M bad.
Anyone (maybe Misty, Aunt Ina, or Wesley) could have sent that page and said something to send Zebb into an ambush. I sort of imagine it being Misty asking Zebb to go to some remote location because she's the one who Zebb would have been most keen to respond to. JO could have offered to follow and participated in the ambush. I think Misty, Aunt Ina, and Wesley claimed to be together at the time of the crime, but I could see them innocently agreeing to say they were all there even if one of them wasn't there the whole time b/c they don't want to bring attention to a probably-innocent friend.

Meanwhile, M is still feeling bad, so she leaves the car where it will be found. Nobody's going to miss it for sure. They put some random "clues" in there to throw off the scent.
I don't understand why she would do this. Maybe she just wasn't too smart. It seems like the smart thing to do would be to leave the car abandoned. Putting it where everyone would see it would just provide opportunities to be seen or for the fake clues to end up being actual real clues that lead to the person who did it.

It occurs to me if Misty did not leave the car there, but rather it was someone wanted to throw the police off, they might leave clues that point to a female: the adjustment of the driver's seat, the bubbly drawing in lipstick on the window, and maybe the puppy. Maybe they thought that would point to Misty who had a solid alibi.

Why did you use the phrase throw off the scent? Were you thinking the dog may have been placed there to confuse any tracing dogs used on the car? That's the best explanation I've heard, but it's too complicated. It would be better just to ditch the car somewhere out of sight. If it stayed there for weeks, it's hard to imagine a dog positively identifying someone who had been in the car.

Thanks again to BkMtnGirl for posting this possible narrative.

Wow, lots of stuff here to think about! :-) I'd love to spend some time thinking about each of your points. For now, let me say that I didn't think about the puppy throwing off the scent, but that seems like a tactic somebody trying to hide something might think of. Good point. Also, the reason I keep coming back to M leaving the car like that is that I just feel like she really did at least like Zebb as a friend, and "felt bad" about what happened. But, yes, I agree that all the car stuff might have been staged to make it look like a girl did it. Those lips, though...that drawing looks like a girl drew it. I think it would be hard for a man/boy to doodle a pair of lips like that. Sorry. Don't mean to sound sexist.

  • #294
The lips do indeed look "feminine" to me. Handwritting, as well as basic drawings, are usually easily to differentiate, based on gender. It definitely strikes me as a female did that. Also, if you consider the sketch of the girl who was allegedly driving the car, it makes sense.

But in the end, like the puppy, I think it was random nonsense meant to confuse investigators, IMO.

Considering we have a person of interest in jail on another change, with the death penalty on the table...I certainly hope this leads to closure with this.

I think it's pretty clear what happened here : Robert Jason Owens killed him for whatever reason on that night, buried him under his property and Misty and her boyfriend Wesley helped him cover the crime afterwards (Misty drove his car to that hospital where Zebb's mother was working). How the police didn't manage to find any proof of that in 15 years truly baffles me.

It's really that simple . Tragic but simple !

Hopefully he'll confess considering the punishment he's facing. This has gone on long enough.

Owens has nothing to loose if he confesses, he already has a very good chance of receiving the death penalty for murdering that couple earlier this year.

How do the page, lips drawn on the car, and puppy fit into this?
