What in the world is the defense thinking with this opening?

I came in late...is this the defense attorney rambling on?

You would think the judge would put a stop to it.

The only good thing is the prosecution now knows exactly where they are going with their defense and can address any issues.

Just stopping by to say the defense IMO, was testifying. It was curious the Pros didn't make any objections. I can't listen to the rebuttal. But the defense made many good points of SODDI.

CourtTV talking heads had to search for something nice to say about that opening lol. Absolutely terrible.

Thanks for the updates, ya'll! Glaring at the jurors is not going to get this guy any points!

Can someone give me the names of the pro that did opening & defense attorney. Can't watch this now.
Also - when witnesses come up - names & occupation - TIA! :)

Just want to keep my notes straight.

This is going to be tedious...

The prosecution is having first responder witnesses describe every detail of the carnage and when and how law enforcement took over the "crime scene."

The cross by defense cross is testifying for the witness (Defense attorney Quick Sr. is very seasoned, he's done this before) -- his emphasis is on the confusion of the scene. Seems the defense is going for crime scene contamination and the growing crowd that had gathered outside the shop.

An endless stream of personnel coming and going? Prosecution redirect is trying to
clean up the impression here by the first responder witness that was so easily led by Mr. Quick. (IMO, poorly prepared witness).

Next witness is another first responder (Williams). He's much better prepared. Calm, factual.

(Also, the last witness was released from his subpoena - he really seemed put out that he was there. MOO)

ETA: @Niner - there's not much tweeting as we typically see with names of witnesses, etc. Unless the witness is wearing his uniform - hard to get their names. Williams was in uniform but the witness before him was not so I did not get his name.

Recap of opening statements in Isaak trial | KX NEWS

Aug 4, 2020

In a roughly 10-minute opening, the state laid out the scene of the crime and the testimony jurors would hear over the course of the trial.

Assistant State’s Attorney Karlei Neufeld described video surveillance from the site of the murders she says shows a person of height and weight matching the suspect.

She also mentioned evidence from a McDonald’s employee who worked down the Strip who saw a man in a ski mask — the prosecution believes that man was Isaak.

The state did not lay out a motive for the crimes.

“Ultimately, investigators will use those surveillance videos to show you how they followed the suspect’s arrival route and exit route on the morning of the murders. They will also show you how they use photos to locate that suspect vehicle in Washburn, North Dakota, and how they were able to identify it as a white Ford pickup belonging to the defendant, Chad Isaak,” Neufeld said.

The defense’s more than an hour long opening statement centered on what they believe to be law enforcement’s improper execution of search warrants, as well as their lack of interest in pursuing other suspects.

Attorney Bruce Quick also said the defense believes the time frame of the crime and nature of the murders does not fit with a single suspect, but rather more than one person who could possibly be involved.

Quick also highlighted that no DNA evidence of the victims were found on Isaak or in his home.

“No DNA evidence of the victims were on Dr. Isaak’s fingernails or his person and no DNA of Dr. Isaak was found on the victims. There was also no DNA of the victims in Dr. Isaak’s home, or Dr. Isaak’s business. There was no DNA or even evidence of blood on any of the clothing items seized from Dr. Isaak’s home,” Quick said.

I lost track of this one, but glad to see the trial has started. Has a motive ever been theorized? Was he having a dispute with the property management company?

Just as Isaak glared at the jury during the prosecution's opening statement, Isaak also appeared to glare at his defense attorney, Bruce Quick, delivering his opening statement.

Take note that Isaak earlier filed a "nothing complaint" against the law license of his primary counsel Robert Quick to get him off his case. Isaak preferred secondary counsel lawyers Luke Heck and Drew Hushka of Vogel Law Firm. I don't think Isaak is happy to see Robert Quick's father (Bruce) standing in his place!

The only reason Vogel Law firm is still on board is because the court ordered them to represent Isaak.

Why is this prosecutor smirking and almost giggling when asking the witnesses about the shoes?

Saw that. Was just wondering if there was any chatter or anything out there. It is just so very weird.
Of course, there's been the catch-all blame the "cartel" but all evidence points to Isaak including surveillance from one week prior to the murders where Isaak appeared to do a practice run to the management business at the same early morning hour. Isaak planned this! MOO

Was he being penalized by the management company or HOA for something? Or just a thrill kill? Will we ever know?

Nothing. Model tenant, paid timely, etc. He paid his rent online so had little interaction. See the defense opening.

Before RJR took over management for the mobile home park, Isaak provided snow removal for free for his neighbors. He offered to do the same after RJR but it was not clear if they accepted his offer.

IMO, Isaak is an "insult collector" mostly perceived in his own mind. He was danger waiting to happen.
